Diana Costa | 1027 comments Franziska wrote: "Why does it say in the official points spreadsheet that we “only” completed 96% ? Which task is missing..?"

If you check our team spreadsheet, on the section "Members", it lists all of us and how many books we've read vs our average - and we read 82 books vs our average of 85. But actually we did read 85, it's just that some were only used on the mini and some only on the main challenge. This counting system is not really reliable, because then there are also the Draw 2 cards. For example it says I read 8 books but I read only 6... In conclusion there is nothing to worry about. :)

And it only counts the books we read for the main challenge! I went there and put that in order. For the main challenge we read 78 books, and that's what we have there now.

message 207: by Franziska (new)

Franziska (chaoschild) | 136 comments I see. I thought it was for the tasks and was asking myself ...

1) what is missing in our hands such that we are not at 10 %
2) how some teams can have more than 100 %.

Thank you, your explanation makes much more sense. :)

Diana Costa | 1027 comments Is anyone planning on reading something to fit a 5 Red (we have 2) and/or a 7 Green? I can try the 7 Green either with The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid or Please Ignore Vera Dietz by A.S. King , but I wanted to know your plans. :)

Amanda A | 290 comments I don't plan to read anything that works for 7 Green. The book I am currently reading works for 4 Yellow.

I can read Impulse (Faces of Evil, #2) by Debra Webb for 5 Red. It is red according to TinEye.

Franziska, what do you think about this cover? I see pink. But then again, I saw pink in “The wrath and the dawn” that Mary read and other captain said it was clearly red. In case you see pink can you take this to the captain’s group?

That leaves me with the 7 Green. I’ll do my best - I’ll read the first pages of both books I has in mind to have a sense of what I’ll enjoy more and read faster :)

I see red. I don't know why you see pink - for me it's red, and Tineye confirms it. So no need to take it to the captain's group :)

It looks red on my home laptop and pink on my work computer so I think it depends on the screen. I think it is supposed to be red because there is a later book in the series with a pink cover and each book in the series is a different color.

I believe Mary has a Red 5 in sight :)
I found these two other options

Inkheart (Inkworld, #1) by Cornelia Funke and Impulse (Impulse, #1) by Ellen Hopkins

in case someone is interested in reading one of them.

Hey Karen, we already filled and duplicated a 0 Blue, so this book cannot be used for a coloured card. It can fit a regular card, if you are thinking about finishing it this month, as I see you already started it :)

message 233: by Diana (last edited Mar 09, 2019 02:07PM) (new)

Diana Costa | 1027 comments In terms of coloured cards, here is a breakdown of how we currently stand:

Card
7 Green - I am currently reading for this spot (should finish today!)
4 Yellow - 1 missing: I read a blue cover version of "Convenience store woman" but my initial thought was that it would fit a yellow cover because I saw someone in the underground reading it; turns out I only got my hands on the blue cover. Here it is: Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata . I liked the book, it is a quick read, but it is kind of peculiar. I read "The vegetarian" and had the same feeling of strangeness!
5 Red x2 - I think Alissa and Mary are going for those
0 Blue - done
*UPDATE* 1 Blue - We'll use "Catch 22" that Slytherpuff is reading
1 Blue - done
4 Blue - done

We have 1 WD4 left as well. We can fit it with either:
7 Green
4 Yellow
5 Red
1 Blue

*UPDATE* If anyone has one of these in mind, let me know! We can use "Catch 22" that Slytherpuff is reading here!

Diana Costa | 1027 comments Slytherpuff wrote: "It’s good to have a back up in case I don’t finish in time"

Amanda read something that I could fit in that spot.

So, our current breakdown: 46 books (51 spots) down and 45 to go (47 spots) - and we still have 20 days left! This means that we are doing a fantastic job! :)

I believe there will be another mini challenge, so I am saving my books in case we can use books started before the mini - that was the case last month, but we never know.

sorry for writing so little within the last days. I had a rough time coming back to work after being ill, but at least I had some time to read.

message 244: by Franziska (new)

Franziska (chaoschild) | 136 comments So, there is a March mini challenge here .

We are one of the "criminal" teams, so we have to do the following:

"In order to get away with the perfect crime you will need to complete all of your tasks AND read a book that someone on a DETECTIVE team has read during UNO. Once that is done, you are free and will be given 30 bonus points."

Tasks are already in our spreadsheet!

I am so happy we've been holding off on a few books! I got the one with a map covered, for example.

So, I will copy the challenge into our tracking spreadsheet and will also add some columns in the tracking so that everybody can fill in what spots their books fit into.

Even though the challenge consists of "only" 40 books, some of the tasks seem to me to be very difficult, but I am sure we will manage that :)

Just a couple of requests: in the tracking spreadsheet, please say which spot does the book fit and give an explanation. For example, for task 11. Read a book where characters have an argument or heated discussion -- say which characteres are having the argument, if possible the page where it starts. Also, for the tasks such as 5. Read a book with the word "ruthless" in the text or title -- if you found the word in the text, give an excerpt where the word appears plus the page where the word is.

My strategy will be to fill in the spots that seem more difficult: for example 20. Read a book with a blanket on the cover (like, seriously!) and fill the Spell-it-outs last.

Don't forget that books must be read between the 15th and the 31st, so beware of the countadown! :)

message 246: by Diana (new)

Diana Costa | 1027 comments Also, don't forget we still have a 4 Yellow that we need to assign! (My suggestion above also works for the task where the main character works in a shop.)

Mary, if you do read I Don't Know What You Know Me From Confessions of a Co-Star by Judy Greer I know for sure we can use it for task 40. I just have to go through the other teams' spreadsheets, but I remember seeing it assigned to a 5 Red somewhere!

Diana Costa | 1027 comments Just in case you were wondering about the difference in the number of tasks between the Detective and Criminal teams, Pixie shared her response to a pm that she received, saying that:

"The Detective teams have more tasks, but also (what we considered) more difficult tasks. The overall points that can be achieved is the same no matter which category you are in.
The split was made based on the # books read, and also Feb placings. "
