Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 150 comments I'm planning to read The Bourbon Kings (The Bourbon Kings, #1) by J.R. Ward . On Tin Eye, it is 51% yellow and does work for a color card (7).

From the details that GR provides it fits either a 4 or an 8 Yellow given the names of characters listed...

Another yellow taken care of then :)

Diana Costa | 1027 comments As with previous months, a mini challenge is coming. My advice is for everybody to save the books you are currently reading for that :)
I’ll get back with more details soon! Have a nice weekend!

Franziska (chaoschild) | 136 comments I just checked the challenge and it seems as if we will need a lot of coordination with it. But we will see. :) looking forward to it!

I agree! This must be the most difficult mini I have ever seen. We’ll do our best :)

message 307: by Diana (new)

Diana Costa | 1027 comments Hi all,
Regarding the mini challenge, it consists of 30 tasks plus 10 that we can duplicate once we finish those. However, the tasks are very specific and are divided into four groups of 7 or 8. We need to finish each bunch before moving to the next bunch. We always have a choice between two paths. In my opinion B2ba or B2bb are not that tough as some other paths. But I would love to hear from you. This challenge will require a lot more communication and/or filling the spreadsheet ASAP.

About the main challenge, we have read so far 26 books (already on the spreadsheet) + 14 books (3 that I haven’t had the opportunity to assign a spot + 11 from Amanda’s shelf). This means that we have read 40 books out of 94 that are the total we need. We are a tiny bit behind schedule, but I think we’ll be able to catch up :)

This also means that there is a gap of 14 books between the Mini and the Main challenges, so if we can finish our regular hands we should be able to finish the mini.

So, let’s do this! First question: take a look at the A and B streams and choose either A or B to start with. My vote in on B. As soon as I have your votes I’ll copy the first bit into our tracking spreadsheet. Then I am going to need you to tell me all about your plans :)

message 308: by Diana (new)

Diana Costa | 1027 comments Also about the colored cards:

4 Red x 1 — done!
2 Blue x 1 — I'll be reading The Housekeeper and the Professor, which fits either the 2 or the 3 Blue
3 Blue x 1
4 Blue x 1 — Death by Scones read by Amanda might cover either a 4, a 2 or a 9 Blue
7 Blue x 2 — one covered by Alissa with King's Cage.
9 Blue x 1
2 Green x 1 — Diana reading for that spot
3 Green x 1 — done
4 Yellow x 1 — covered by Amanda with 4th of July.
5 Yellow x 2
7 Yellow x 1 — already duplicated - covered by Karen with The Boubon Kings
8 Yellow x 1 — covered by Slytherpuff with Homegoing ?
WD4 x 2

Diana Costa | 1027 comments The path A2bb or A2ba are also not bad! But we really need to choose either A or B. How’s it going to be? :)

Amanda A | 290 comments I also vote for B.

I just finished the only challenge I was really planning books for so I am wide open for the rest of the month. Most of my other challenges are usually pretty easy to fit books in. I will update my books read on the spreadsheet tonight.

That is good news :)

I’ll update the tracking spreadsheet with the first bit of the B stream now.

Diana Costa | 1027 comments B Stream:

7B* read a book with an author name (first or last) starts with W — Karen taking care of this one

Yes, he was in the hospital a few days.

Assuming so (!) we need a street on the cover and a title starting with M. May I then suggest that we follow B2? I have the spell-it-out for Y and G almost finished. :)

message 318: by Amanda A (last edited Apr 16, 2019 06:11PM) (new)

Amanda A | 290 comments My next three reads will work for the mini and I plan to finish them by tomorrow.

I am currently reading an M title, Maid For Murder.

Pestilence is a new to me author.

The Vampire Knitting Club (Vampire Knitting Club #1) by Nancy Warren has a street behind the woman.

ETA: I changed Pestilence to another book that fit the same tasks in other challenges but is not a new to me author.

Omg! We are writing at the same time! Ahah! Then you can take the M and the street spots. The new author is covered.

Diana Costa | 1027 comments Remember when I said that we needed to complete each bunch of tasks before moving to another one? Well, forget that!!

The thing is we'll only receive the points for tasks in a later bunch after completing what's behind. I am sooooo sorry for this mess! I have no idea why I interpreted the rules that way...

I just checked the entries on the SS that I was saving for duplicated tasks, and I chose the path B2bb (if any of you objects, send me a pm - but I think I chose the most suitable for our team). Thus, the tracking suffered changes in the columns reserved for the mini. Please, for the next books fill in accordingly. If you want, you can also update previous entries, so that if I need to shuffle things around, I have more information.

Once again, I am sorry for the confusion!

Diana Costa | 1027 comments Slytherpuff wrote: "Playing for Pizza works for being in hospital"

Hey Slytherpuff, can you tell me who was in hospital so that I can detail that on the reason?
Also, could you make sure you have the correct version of the book you read on your shelf? I see that in the spreadsheet you said that it has a Yellow cover, but the book on your shelf hasn’t.

message 324: by [deleted user] (new)

I made a silly mistake because I was thinking of two books at once. It’s the white hardback edition. Rick Dockery ended up in the hospital several times from getting a concussion after playing football

Diana Costa | 1027 comments Hello!

We have 1/3 of the month left, and here's how we're doing:

Main challenge:
We have 71 spots covered, and 32 to go. The coloured cards are a concern, as we have left:

> 2 Blue
> 4 Blue - I guess that's where Alissa's book is going.
> 7 Blue
> 5 Yellow
> 8 Yellow - Slytherpuff may be able to help with this one.

plus 2 WD4.

On the mini challenge, we are doing great. And we have left:
> Spell-it-out: G, B, C(x2)
> 10th in series or higher - Karen CR
> mirror on the cover
> book where a character starts over
> character who listens to music
> orange cover: I have two books that fit this spot, but I am unsure if I'll be able to finish any of them.

Plus 10 duplicated tasks that should be easy :)

message 329: by Amanda A (new)

Amanda A | 290 comments I am currently reading a green cover for another challenge and it can duplicate the 2 green for a WD4. It is more than 50% green according to TinEye.

Lowcountry Book Club (Liz Talbot Mystery #5) by Susan M. Boyer

I can also read another 5 yellow.

We Are Never Meeting In Real Life by Samantha Irby

message 341: by Diana (new)

Diana Costa | 1027 comments I am having such a bad day today that all I can think about is going home, crawling into bed and reading, so I’ll probably finish my 7 Blue book today, which I am enjoying very very much. I am wondering if I can finish another book by the end of the month and I think I can finish “Goodbye Things” too.

A little update:
We have 21 books left on the main challenge and 7 on the mini. Actually, at least minus one in each challenge as I know Slytherpuff read an 8 Yellow that I still haven’t placed in the SS, so we are down to 20 main—6 mini. We’re almost there. :)

For the mini, we just have a spot open for a book where a character starts over (all other spots are already “claimed”). My 7 Blue has a ucranian guy who moves to Portugal to work and to get a bit of distance from home and his father who has dementia (even though they love each other very much...). I don’t know if this counts as starting over, I’ll see how the book goes...

message 342: by Diana (new)

Diana Costa | 1027 comments We're almost at the end of UNO! :) and :( !

Quick update:
- Main: 4 Blue (Alissa) and 1xWD4 missing! + 8 others (6 in Amanda's shelf, so 2 to go!)
- Mini: Orange cover (Alissa) and Mirror on cover (Amanda).

Alissa, do you think you can make it?
Anyone with something useful for the WD4?
