Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments APRIL MINI

April mini is up now up here. All books read from the 15th April on can be used. Countdown to the start is here

It's a choose your own adventure so the first thing we need to do is decide which path we want to follow. I'll give you some time to read over and have a look at the tasks for each of the paths and we can decide what we want to do.

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments MAIN CHALLENGE - UPDATE

I still need to go check shelves and see if there are any books I've missed but we have three hands complete and one very nearly there.

In terms of colour cards we're doing pretty great. Currently outstanding are:-
7 yellow
5 red
7 green
0 yellow

Lauri's book Phantom might fit the 5 red but haven't heard back from captain's group yet.

We've also filled three of the four wild draw 4 cards, we've duplicated a 2 blue, yellow 0 and yellow 9 so anything other than that will fit.

Other than that we still need 5 reverses (Elisabeth is covering one of them) and then it's mostly 6s, 7s and 9s

message 553: by Teri (last edited Apr 14, 2019 07:18AM) (new)

Teri | 401 comments I am working on one now that will cover a 9, I can do Salt to the Sea for a reverse (Lauri has read), The Last Necromancer for a reverse (Jen has read) and Gone for Good by Harlan Coben for Yellow 0 (it is a stand alone)

message 554: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments Fab. There are a couple of books on Laurens shelf I've read so hopefully that'll cover most of the reverse cards.

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments OK, have done a bit of a shelf check and picked up the books from Lauren and Yvette's shelves. Lauren had a couple that worked for reverse and also green so have slotted into the remaining green and WD4 slot.

Teri if you can cover off the yellow 0, and two reverses and if Elisabeth covers the reverse that just leaves the yellow 7 and red 5.

Hopefully that'll free us up to find books for the mini. First choice is whether we want to go for stream A or stream B. I'm leaning towards B as I think the tasks are a little easier, then B2 which is essentially a spell it out.

message 557: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments Gosh, I'm glad they listed the options in their separate streams! I'm leaning towards B as well but we can't do the one with the series links because there's only one Nick Charles book. The Thin Man. They made more movies.

message 558: by Teri (new)

Teri | 401 comments I have looked at the streams, and whatever you guys all think would be best. I think the A1aa and A1ab looked kind of hard with the eye color on the cover.

Main Page Genre, maybe, so the tags on the first page?

message 561: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 935 comments OMG! I just looked at the April mini and I am soooo confused!

message 562: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments At the bottom of the spreadsheet there are pages with all the variations worked out that we can choose from, thank goodness. Otherwise it'd be a disaster waiting to happen :)

message 563: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments Yep, MPG is main page genre so if you're on the main page of a book on the right hand side you'll see a list of genres.

message 568: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments OK, probably need to make a decision on stream A or B. I would struggle with the mandatory's on A so B would be my preference with the path B-B2-B2a-B2aa or B2bb. That would mean the following tasks

B
1B* read a book with a street on the cover
2B* read a book by a new to you author
3B* read a book where the main character end up in the hospital
4B* read a book with S-H-O-E in the title (doesn't need to be in that order)
5B* read a book where the first word in the text starts with T
6B* read a book where the title starts with M
7B* read a book with an author name (first or last) starts with W

B2
8B2*: G
9B2*: R
10B2*: C
11B2*: W
12B2*: A
13B2*: Y
14B2*: read a book with only a person's head on the cover

B2a
15B2a*: read a book with 101-150 pages
16B2a*: read a book with 151-200 pages
17B2a*: read a book with 201-250 pages
18B2a*: read a book with 251-300 pages
19B2a*: read a book with 301-350 pages
20B2a*: read a book with 351-400 pages
21B2a*: read a book with 401-450 pages
22B2a*: read a book with more than 450 pages

then either B2aa
23B2aa*: read a book with a Crime MPG
24B2aa*: read a book with a very dark cover
25B2aa*: read a book with a creepy cover
26B2aa*: read a book where someone is attacked
27B2aa*: read a book with a villain
28B2aa*: read a book with a werewolf character
29B2aa*: read a book with a vampire character
30B2aa*: read a book with "evil" in the text or title

or B2ab
23B2ab*: read a book where someone is very happy
24B2ab*: read a book with a night sky on the cover
25B2ab*: read a book where a character does the right thing
26B2ab*: read a book with "good" in the text or title
27B2ab*: read a book with "lucky" in the text or title
28B2ab*: read a book with some kind of sports equipment on the cover
29B2ab*: read a book with a happy ending
30B2ab*: read a book with a pink cover

message 569: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments I'm assuming you'd prefer to steer clear of the romance tasks (I haven't spotted many romance reads completed) so if we could go down the A stream we could maybe do A-A2-A2b-A2bb

A
1A* read a book with a phone on the cover
2A* read a book with a police car, officer, or station on the cover
3A* read a book with phone, telephone, call, or police in the title
4A* read a book with H-A-T in the title (doesn't need to be in that order)
5A* read a book where the first word in the text starts with H
6A* read a book where the title starts with A
7A* read a book with an author name (first or last) starts with T

A2
8A2*: M
9A2*: D
10A2*: C
11A2*: A
12A2*: L
13A2*: read a book with a person (head-toe) on the cover
14A2*: read a book with red writing on the cover

A2b
15A2b*: M
16A2b*: L
17A2b*: D
18A2b*: R
19A2b*: A
20A2b*: M
21A2b*: A
22A2b*: C

A2bb
23A2bb*: read a book where a character is in a fight
24A2bb*: read a book with Suspense as the MPG
25A2bb*: read a book where a character does the wrong thing
26A2bb*: read a book with "bad" in the text or title
27A2bb*: read a book with "wrong" in the text or title
28A2bb*: read a book with "kick" in the text or title
29A2bb*: read a book where someone thought to be dead, is actually alive
30A2bb*: read a book with red writing on the cover

Teri | 401 comments B is my preference, but I can work with whatever you guys need

message 571: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments I vote for B and the B2ab ending.
If we go A I prefer the A2bb ending.

Btw I write romance and rom suspense so rather than avoid that stream you could all read my books hahaha. I tend to read other genres though.

message 572: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments OK B it is, unless any of the others comes back with a strong objection. Is everyone OK with the B2, B2A direction? I thought spell it out and no of pages would give most flexibility.

I would be happy with romance Elisabeth, I can easily find something for man lounging on bed ;) I like switching between genres so have a bit of everything on my kindle.

message 573: by Teri (new)

Teri | 401 comments B2, B2A works for me!

message 574: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments Fab, it's just after 11 for me so off to bed. I'll set up a sheet on the tracker with the tasks we're doing tomorrow and we can start slotting in books.

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments My daughter has just said her cousin can't find Becoming which I was planning to read while on holiday as a reverse. If she doesn't get it back I'll track down another copy unless someone has another reverse we can use. Don't want to let the team down!

We still have some time to find an alternative or I had slotted a couple of Lauren's books into green or WD4 slots which would work for the reverse cards so can do some jiggery pokery

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments I'm reading a book that has 496 pages so takes care of 22B2a which might be hard to do later. Book with more than 450 pages
Greeks Bearing Gifts by Philip Kerr

message 580: by Teri (new)

Teri | 401 comments I will do Destined for an Early Grave which allison has read, for a reverse. I need an audiobook for my walk, and the library has this one

message 581: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments I just finished a little shorty that'll fit the 100 to 150 pages in the mini. It had a yellow cover so was hoping it'd also cover the yellow 7 but no joy. Am off to try a different yellow covered book I think.

message 582: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments I'm also just about to start From the Shadows which would fit either new to you author or SHOE in title for the mini. Does anyone have anything for the street on cover? I initially thought it would be an easy one but after some discussion over what counts as a street in captains group it's turning out to be more difficult. Consensus seems to be road with buildings either side. I can find something on netgalley but wanted to check no one else had something lined up before I do.

message 583: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments Thanks Teri. Just to confirm, that means I'm off the hook for the last reverse, doesn't it?

Which of the 2 B2 ending groups are we doing? B2aa or B2ab? Anyone into werewolves and vampires? I'm not but the other tasks would be okay in B2aa. B2ab looks easier to me. But I'm fine with whichever we pick.

I read both vamps and werewolves.

Yes, I will cover your reverse.

I need to look about the whole sidewalk thing...

Lauri (otwlauri) | 935 comments Please put me down for #11 - Task 4B - RAB with SHOE in the title - Just started reading Birds of a Feather by Jacqueline Winspear. So it could also work for #14 - 7B RAB with an author name starting with W...

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments How about this for the street? Spies of the Balkans (Night Soldiers, #11) by Alan Furst

message 587: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments I'd say that works for street, a little narrow but I'm OK with it.

I was actually thinking b2aa given Teri is reading Destined for an Early Grave. That will definitely cover off vampire. I bought the first Mercy Thomson book yesterday which I think should cover werewolf?

I also am picking up the 5th of that series to read later this weekend, so I can cover it if you want. I LOVE it

message 590: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments Fab. I've been looking for an excuse to start that series although I'm slightly worried it'll lead to a series binge :) I do have a tendency to do that with those kinds of books.

If we finish all the tasks we can double up so am not too worried about duplicates. I suppose we just need to make sure we cover everything. Moon Called will work for title starting M too so seems like a good choice.

message 591: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments I'm reading Antrobus Complete by Lawrence Durrell which covers the A of 12b2. It's short and hilariously funny so I'll knock it over quickly.

26B2aa (someone is attacked--lots of people are attacked in this novel!)
I don't know if this counts, on the MPG it says "mystery > crime" so I don't know if that counts for crime or not, if it does, then this works for 23b2aa as well

message 593: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments Will double check but the usual rule is as long as crime is in there somewhere it'll work.
