Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments Tracking sheet

Meant to say earlier you may or may not have noticed it but I've set up a tracking sheet to keep track of everyone's books. It's open access so you're welcome to add whatever books you're planning to read and what cards they fit to the February tracking sheet. I've added an example in the first row.

You'll notice there's a column for read date, which you can fill in once you finish whatever book you're reading but can you also make sure you post a completion post here as I may not notice changes on the sheet.

If you are using the tracking sheet you don't need to list out all the cards a book fits in the completions post, just let me know that it's on the sheet.

If you'd prefer not to use it that's totally fine too, I'm happy to add books for you from your completion posts.

Lauri (otwlauri) | 935 comments Right now I can cover any of the following color cover books:
3 Yellow - The Perfect Paragon - character Harry Beam
3 Blue - Rosemary Remembered - character Bubba Harris
OR same title for
4 Blue - #4 in the China Bayles series
4 Red - The Bones In The Attic - character Carl Farsom

The Perfect Paragon (Agatha Raisin, #16) by M.C. Beaton Rosemary Remembered (China Bayles, #4) by Susan Wittig Albert The Bones In The Attic (Charlie Peace, #7) by Robert Barnard

I'm going back to the library right before we begin to hunt up new books!

message 53: by Crumb (new)

Crumb | 141 comments I am going to go to the library in a couple days to hunt for books, too! But first I'm going to hunt on my shelves.. I do have a question, though.. Do ARCs count?

message 54: by Crumb (new)

Crumb | 141 comments Thanks, Alison! That is a great tracker. I'll probably use the tracker.. but if not, will post here. I'm so psyched for UNO this year. I only came in on the tail-end of it last year. I can't wait to play!

message 55: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments Yep ARCs are generally fine. Provided it is listed somewhere on Goodreads and we can verify page count there's no issue. Even if it's not listed we can always speak nicely to a librarian and ask them to put it on.

message 56: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments I am really struggling to find anything for yellow. I have a few books with yellow covers but I'm not sure they work for the numbers. They don't in terms of author, title MC etc but who knows there may be another one in there somewhere.

I do have quite a few blue covers and some red, so I can definitely take at least one of them.

If anyone is looking for ideas Uno Pixie has set up some shelves for each colour. Just go to their profile.

Jen (book_worm23) | 229 comments Hi, I might be a little delayed in showing up! My name is Jen and this is my second year doing the Uno challenge. I live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I work full-time and go to school full time, but I always make time to read. I'm excited to do this challenge again.

Lauri (otwlauri) | 935 comments Hi Jen! Welcome to the party. It's great to meet you!

message 59: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments Hey Jen, great to have you on the team. How on earth do you manage to both work and go to school full time? I struggle just with the work thing.

Vanessa Gayle ⚔️ Fangirl Faction (fangirlfaction) | 86 comments Howdy, everyone. Checking in. I will read through the thread and see what I have missed. =)

message 62: by Jen (new)

Jen (book_worm23) | 229 comments Honestly, I don't actually know. I get that question a lot. Usually, I'm just too tired to answer.

Vanessa Gayle ⚔️ Fangirl Faction (fangirlfaction) | 86 comments A little about me: I live in Omaha, Nebraska with my husband and four children. I am also a serial reader. I read many books at the same time so I can switch between them as my mood dictates. I read in all formats. I mostly use my tablet for reading because it is easiest, but I also listen to audiobooks in the car and buy many physical books. I read anywhere from 8 to 25+ books each month depending on how much free time I have. I have played UNO in previous years, and I adore this challenge so I am very excited. =)

Andrea | 8 comments Hey guys,

I’m Andrea and I’ll be your co-captain. I’m not going to say much because I’ve been feeling miserable lately. The doctors think I have the flu, so I’ll be MIA for a little while until I feel better. I should be back to normal this week. Can’t wait to play UNO with you guys.

Lauri (otwlauri) | 935 comments And so... Now that the gang's all here - - What are you reading right now? And what are you looking forward to reading most (or first!) during Uno?

I am luxuriating in a welcome day off with the house to myself and a big stack of books! I'm trying to finish off my few Christmas stories & some others before our game begins. Right now my most intriguing books are: The Ballad of Tom Dooley, Music of the Ghosts, Kiss Carlo and Jackaby.

For Uno I'm thinking of reading Kindness Goes Unpunished first. I love Walt Longmire!

Believe it or not I'm not really reading anything right now. January is always a bit manic at work for me and I'm not feeling too great (starting to think it's a chest infection) so trying to take it easy and save myself for Uno. I did read (or really re read) A Curse So Dark and Lonely at the weekend, which if you like retellings I highly recommend. I am a retelling addict so I've also got Blood Heir (a dark Anastasia) and The Beauty of the Wolf (Beauty and the Beast) lined up to read soon.

I'm thinking my first book for Uno will be 99 Percent Mine which should work for one of our yellow cards. I absolutely loved The Hating Game so I've been desperate to get my hands on a copy of this. It's out on the 29th so it's gonna be a struggle to hold off reading it till the 1st.

I don't think I've come across any of the books on your list but then that's the joy of team challenges, finding new authors.

message 72: by Lauren (last edited Jan 22, 2019 02:54PM) (new)

Lauren Rogers I am reading a couple of books: The Queen of Attolia, and this philosophy book that I really thought would be more about history called The Lessons of History (which is beautiful and thick and deep).

I'm not exactly sure what I plan to read first for the UNO game! I don't have a strategy... which may be a bad thing. I was planning on reading like I usually do and seeing afterwards what UNO cards apply (but maybe that's a bad idea?)

And question! Lauri, how do you read so many books all at once? Where do you find the time?

Well, Lauren, I have book OCD. Once I find a book or author I like, I have to read ALL their stuff, preferably in order! I have always read multiple books simultaneously, even as a child. I can put one down (sometimes for months or even years) and come right back & pick it up again. Sometimes this mania works really well for challenges, sometimes it doesn't. I try to limit myself to just 3-5 books at a time during the big group challenges like UNO... No promises here, though!
I always carry a book with me. I read obsessively in line at the bank or grocery store, waiting for my husband to pick me up, before work in the morning and at least an hour before going to sleep. My true bliss is reading in bed in the mornings on weekends!

I think your idea will work out just fine. Read what & where you like. You'll definitely be happier and read more if you like your book...

message 75: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Rogers Lauri wrote: Read what & where you like. You'll definitely be happier and read more if you like your book...

I hope and believe so!

I'm like you in a way in that I can pick up from where I left off in a book pretty easily- and remember specific details about each book. My brain has a way of keeping whatever I read in nice categorized spaces; I don't usually get characters, plots, or places mixed up when I read. Same way with music! I can hear a hundred different songs and recognize similarities and differences in each without getting them mixed up (most of the time!).

Lauri wrote: My true bliss is reading in bed in the mornings on weekends!

UGH, that is my HEAVEN! With a warm cup of coffee and a purring cat next to me (preferably not on top of my face, like she usually does) Because I mean really, who can read or even breathe for that matter with a cat on top of their face?

I think I'm becoming more of an obsessive reader (thanks to Goodreads) than I used to be... though I have always been a lover of stories and words... I mean, as a child, I would be in dance class and instead of actually dancing (like my parents paid for me to do), I would be reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and trying to find a closet to hide in before my ballet teacher noticed I was missing and made me put the book down. Which *sigh* was never fun.

message 76: by Jen (new)

Jen (book_worm23) | 229 comments Currently I am rereading the Percy Jackson series, I guess I missed some of the books. When I first read the series, although I'm not sure how. But I am also going to go see the Lightening Thief musical in March, so why not.

I'm actually deciding between two books Weave a Circle Round, and the Gutter Prayer. I've heard good things about both of them. So I'm excited. Actually there might be another book as well, so many to choose from.

Lauren.. I am DEFINITELY becoming more of an obsessive reader due to Goodreads.. but hey I'm not complaining!

Right now.. I'm reading an ARC called An Anonymous Girl and it's fantastic. It's going to fulfill a prompt for my popsugar challenge.. a book by two authors. Is anyone doing Popsugar too?

I hear you, Jen! I'm also working and in school. But like you, I always have time to read. That will never, ever change.

message 80: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments I always kinda do the Popsugar challenge although I take the approach of reading whatever I like and finding a prompt it'll fit rather than reading specifically for them. I tend to read quite widely anyway so I can usually fill most of the spots.

I was thinking of reading something by Christina Lauren for the two female authors task. Josh and Hazel' s Guide to Not Dating has been on my want to read list for a while.

Crumb, I always do the PopSugar Challenge with varying degrees of success. I participate in the one in the 2019 Reading Challenge Group. I have never successfully finished in one year even with all the books I read. Someday....

message 83: by Crumb (new)

Crumb | 141 comments Hey Lauren! The Popsugar challenge is a really fun challenge that is done each year. There are 40 regular and 10 advanced book - related prompts. Here is the link to the challenge if you are interested :https://www.popsugar.com/entertainmen...
FYI: I did it last year and I LOVED it! I made it through all the regular prompts but didn't do the advanced. This year I want to try to do them all. I really, really like the prompts this time around.

message 85: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments There's a group on Goodreads for the Popsugar (on app so can't link). There are discussion threads for each of the prompts where people suggest books to fit, monthly reads and general chat. It is quite handy if you're struggling with a task.

You know how we're playing Uno with the Perks of Being a Book Addict group, right? There are a lot of different groups on GoodReads and several of them offer the PopSugar Challenge. The Prompts are all the same because PopSugar is from a non-GoodReads website. If you look in the Perks thread right above Uno, you'll see a PopSugar Challenge. Click on that to see what it's all about. It's lots of fun and lasts the whole year!

message 87: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments It was actually Perks that started me on the Popsugar challenge. I think this was the first group I joined so I signed up for everything. I have to confess though that I don't track my progress on Goodreads at all. I set up a separate spreadsheet. In theory I use it to track all of my reading but I'm not always that good at keeping it up to date.

Yep, we won't get March's till the end of February.

We can also expect an optional mini challenge each month but they won't announce what it is till midway through (once we've gotten the hang of Uno).

What does the 4 mean?

It means we have 4 of those Draw 2 cards (all together in the various hands for Feb.) Make sense?

message 94: by Andrea (new)

Andrea | 8 comments So I’m feeling much better now and I think a proper introduction is in order. I’m Andrea, your co-captain and right now I’m in Germany with my hubby, whose stationed here, our 7 month old daughter, and our two year old husky puppy. I go to online school at Southern New Hampshire University for Creative Writing and I aspire to be a famous author one day. I’ve already finished my first book and I’m trying to get a literary agent while I work on my second one. I also started a booktube/authortube channel this year. I’m really excited to start reading again. When I was in high school that’s basically all I did and then I fell off when I got married and went to college. Now that things in my life have settled down I’m diving back in. I just finished a “Graceling” reread, and now I’m moving into “One Of Us Is Lying.” I have “Fire”, “Bitterblue”, “Shatter Me”, “Like Never and Always”, and the “Of Poseidon” series on my list to read or reread as well. I’m also addicted to The Sims 3. Can’t wait to play UNO with you guys.

message 95: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 935 comments Wow, Andrea! You must be feeling better! What an amazing story. I've always wanted to write myself, but I think I'm just a) too lazy or b) too afraid of rejection. I'm also too tired after work most days. I'm lucky if I can read or watch a movie without falling asleep!

What is Germany like? It's my dream to visit Europe one day before I die. Guess I'd better hurry up while I can still walk!

Can't wait till Friday...
