Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments So sorry to hear about your loss Lauren. I understand how hard losing a furbaby can be.

message 302: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Rogers Thanks Alison- she really was my furbaby. God, I didn’t know it could hurt this much- I wasn’t ready to say goodbye- she wasn’t either; It just happened so fast, one second she was fine and the next she’s gone.

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments It's probably not much consolation but at least she didn't suffer and isn't in pain. I'm sure you gave her a happy life and now she'll be running wild over the rainbow bridge.

I had to read it anyway (I was going to see the author) but I was kind of hoping there would be something that would fit. Ah well, I have Dry Hard by Nick Spalding which will definitely work.

The thing we need first though is a 9 Red to finish off hand 2. Although I'm wondering if Babylon Rite is red enough

message 313: by Alison (last edited Mar 07, 2019 04:47AM) (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments Yep per tineye The Babylon Rite is more than 50% red so Red 9 is done.

In terms of other colour cards we still need the following:
Green 3 (x 2)
Yellow 9
Green 1
Green 5

So basically a lot of Greens. We also have a wild draw 4 although I read Hate Notes which could flip down to it (it's currently in as a reverse).

In terms of other cards we seem to have quite a few reverses (8 of them) so if you spot something here or on the tracker you've read let me know.

Cool! I didn't think it would be red enough, so didn't even consider it..... I have a green book that I should finish by this weekend :)

message 315: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments I wasn't sure either but I ran it through tineye and it came back about 53% red so I think we take it.

That's great, I have surprisingly few green books. I usually end up reading a classic. All of my maybe green books are a turquoise / aqua colour I can never make my mind up on.

message 316: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 935 comments I have a bunch of green and yellow, no blue right now, but I have red. I wander around the library looking at colors! If they're not too long, I pull them out & take the ones that interest me....
Funny!

Has anyone read Leah on the Offbeat? Lemme know & it can be cover a Reverse card for us...

Party on, Garth

message 319: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments Hi Lauri, I've read it so that's another reverse down 5 (I think) to go.

I actually spent today at a bookish event. Angie Thomas was in Edinburgh so took the opportunity to go hear her talk and get books signed. She was pretty awesome. As an added bonus I finished her book The Hate U Give on the way there :)

I should say though not a book to read on a train. Twice it's had me in tears.

Cool! I'll work harder on it.... I really liked the first one, but Leah's a little more edgy.

Yeah, you really have to be careful what you read in public, don't you? I try to avoid tear jerkers and I make sure to never take spooky stories to work cuz the mental hospital where I work has enough spooky things going on without letting my imagination run too wild!

message 321: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments Yeah, I wasn't as keen on Leah either. She doesn't seem very nice, but I listened to it on audio so wasn't sure if the narrator was the problem.

Tear jerkers are definitely a problem but I also struggle with funny books. One time someone on the train asked me what I was reading cos apparently I was making funny faces.

Spooky stories are more of an issue if I'm home alone late at night and the winds blowing outside. :o

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments Hi all, the mods are planning the next mini so they've asked for all sheets to be updated by the 12th. Can you therefore please make sure your shelfs are up to date and post any completions? Thanks

Also just a reminder, can you make sure to check in here at least once a week. You don't have to have read anything, it's just to let me know you still want to play, and save me or the mods having to message you.

I was tempted to just say yes but I've asked in the captain's group to be on the safe side. Tineye is randomly saying 25% green (??)

message 329: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments Thankfully Lauri has one for the yellow 9 so I think it's mostly greens we're after now. It would be so much easier if you could get a list of characters before you start reading though wouldn't it? :)

message 330: by Jessi (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments MARCH MINI

description

Hi all, the March Mini has just been posted here. It's a mixture of a task based challenge (cover items, words in title/text) and spell it outs. We're on a criminal team so once all tasks are complete we need to read a book someone on one of the detective teams has read.

There are 40 tasks in total (including the final one) and books with a read date between 15th March and 31st March can be used (these can be started any time after the start of Uno - 1 Feb).

I've added a tab to the tracker with the tasks. As this will require finding books specifically for tasks I think the best idea is for each of us to claim a task. I'll post the list of tasks here later today and if you can list which books you can read and tasks they cover we can keep track on the spreadsheet.

Shout if you have any questions.

message 338: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments MARCH MINI - TASKS

4. Read a book with the word "team" in the text or title

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments I have Empress of All Seasons by Emiko Jean which will cover the weapon on cover task. I was planning to start it this weekend as part of a group read over at NBRC

I've just joined the group and Pixie sent me a UNO invitation and assigned me to this team. It's my first challenge and my head is exploding trying to get through the guidelines. I gather books I've read since Feb 1 count but do they have to fit with the Feb list or can they be used for March?

I'm reading a war story at the moment with bombers on the cover. Do they count as weapons for the March Mini ?
