Oooh! Australia. That's definitely on my bucket list! We have relatives in Queensland. I'm in Hawaii -- island of Oahu born & raised. Everyone wants to visit Hawaii & we just want to leave!

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments Hi Elisabeth,

Welcome to the team. If you have any problems or questions let me know.

We can use any books you've started after the 1st February and finished after the 1st March so if you can add them to your Uno shelf I can pick them up from there. Going forward if you could do a completion post here in the thread that would be great. There is a tracking spreadsheet (you'll find a link at the start of the thread) which if you're happy to use Google sheets you can add your books to or if you'd rather not use it you can just list all the cards it fits in a post here and I'll put it on for you.

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments Elisabeth wrote: "How do I add a cover image?"

If you're using the "add book/author" thingy above the comment box you'll see at the bottom of the search/results on the book an option to add either a link or the cover. It defaults to link but you can change it to cover by clicking in the little circle.

Unfortunately I don't think your book is quite green enough. We're looking for a minimum of 50% green and it's only coming in around 30% (I checked on tineye).

Wow, that's great Lauri. Leah on the Offbeat will also fit the read a book someone on a detective team has read so should we finish all of the tasks we could maybe slot it in there instead.

Unfortunately we can't use Lost Lake as it's only books finished after the 15th but anything from now on in is good.

Jessi (jazzykitty) | 450 comments When I checked tineye it said 26% green which wouldn't be enough but I will let our Captain Alison be the judge. I use our tracking spreadsheet to help me with remembering cards. I also use notes in my phone to keep track of character names and places.

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments I've just started Something Nasty in the Slushpile which has a person with glasses on the cover -- 3 of Gather A Team-- and also fits card 6 because it's by Sammy Looke. It'll be a quick read!

Does that sound useful? Just getting my head around the requirements and sifting through my TBR pile.

message 373: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments Hi Elisabeth, in theory that sounds good. My only query is how many illustrations are in it? Books must be over 100 pages (which that one is) but can't be graphic novels, recipe books, poetry etc as they typically don't have enough text or there's no way of verifying. How heavy on images is it? Is it mostly text with the odd doodle or more like a graphic novel?

It's predominantly text with a few line drawings here and there. It has interesting anecdotes about well known authors and their rejection history as well as peculiar query letters from the slushpile. I'm enjoying it!

Teri | 401 comments Hi guys! I just woke up--long night.
My shelf is 2019-uno

message 378: by Teri (new)

Teri | 401 comments My understanding is that as long as I have shelved something as currently reading after February 1, it will count. I currently have 4 that I am working on. Do you want me to claim some spots or would you rather I just do a completion post with all possibilities when done?

message 379: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments Fab, that sounds like it'll work Elisabeth. Also sounds like a fun read.

message 380: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments Hi Teri, yep all books started after the 1st February can be used. For the main uno cards anything finished after the 1st March and for the mini anything finished from 15th.

We haven't been claiming spots for the uno cards, it's easiest if you just list everything it works for on completion. The only exception is if you've got something that'll cover a colour card.

The mini is a bit more specific task wise so am happy for everyone to claim spots for that to make sure we have everything covered.

message 381: by Teri (last edited Mar 16, 2019 05:58AM) (new)

Teri | 401 comments For the mini challenge, I can take 8-a book with "plan" in the text--I'm rereading Six of Crows and I know it's in there. I will get the quote for the completion post.

Would this work for 19-car on the cover? Iron Kissed (Mercy Thompson, #3) by Patricia Briggs it's just what's under the hood...thought I would check

message 382: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments I'll go check in the captains group on that one I think. It's obvious it is a car but I know there has been some discussion on whether it needs to be a whole thing. Will let you know what they say.

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments UPDATE
It's very possible I fell asleep on the sofa last night and didn't actually do any updating of spreadsheets but finally got to it this morning :)

On the main challenge we now have 6 hands completed and a further 3 hands that only need a couple of cards so we're more or less on track I think. In terms of colour cards we need 3 greens (3, 1, 5) and we still have a 9 yellow which I think someone was reading for (hopefully not me - although I can). We still have 3 reverses left to get but it's mostly 5s, 7s, 3s and 9s.

For the mini we have three tasks completed in just two days so that's pretty fantastic. There are still plenty of open tasks though so if you have anything to fit let me know.

Thanks for the reminder. I knew someone was reading for the yellow, I was just having a panic it was me :o

On Leah on the Offbeat, I'm sure I spotted Apoorv in Hannah Swenson had read it but will slot it into the argument for now. The book I finished yesterday, Empress of All Seasons, also fits the someone on a detective team has read task (or it will once they finish it) so we have a couple of options for that task.
