Teri | 401 comments I'm working on Six of Crows which can be used for the mini challenge for 8 or 9. Also, I just picked up and will start Ruthless Game which will cover 5 for mini challenge.

I am working on the 5th of a series as well and one that could work as a reverse, and I'm starting one for a 7. I should be done with 2 by Thursday.
Just wanted to put that out there for planning purposes.

message 405: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments Fab, I'm inclined to slot Six of Crows into the map task as that seems like it's the harder to fill but it's good to have options. I'm sure we'll no doubt end up swapping things around. As a bonus it'll fit a reverse as I've read it too.

Elisabeth, I'll probably leave War Flower where it is for the mo but again I'll make a note of alternatives on the sheet.

I started Stepsister this morning for the black cover task and I'm loving it so should get through it pretty fast.

The one task that is looking like a struggle for the other teams is blanket on the cover. I can't think of any books for that either (and the mods are being pretty strict). Has anyone found anything? I'm gonna go hunt my bookshelves.

message 406: by Jessi (new)

Jessi (jazzykitty) | 450 comments The Single Mum’s Picnic Club has a picnic blanket on the cover. I’ve read it so it could work as a reverse too. As long as the picnic blanket works. I’m on the app right now so can’t post the book.

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments I found this which I've read many times along with the other 11 in the series. I have 2 books on the go at the moment but willing to give it a crack if it passes the test and we need it.Books Do Furnish a Room It's easier to see the cover through this link.

message 408: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments Can I just clarify the reverse card, please? Does that mean my reading a book in March that another person on our team has read or a member of any other team?

message 409: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments For the reverse card, it's a book that someone else in this team has read. They don't have to have read it during the challenge, it can be at any time. Just needs to be sitting on their read shelf

There is a task for the mini to read a book someone on another team has read during the challenge but that's just for the mini.

This is the one with the picnic blanket

message 411: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments There's been much chat in the captain's group about whether a beach blanket is a thing or whether it's really a beach towel (consensus seems to be towel) but I would say a picnic blanket definitely works.

I could maybe read this (it's £1.49 on Amazon) but will maybe check on Elisabeth's option. I think there's enough to make it clear it's a blanket but will ask the question.

message 412: by Jessi (new)

Jessi (jazzykitty) | 450 comments Yeah I would vote towel. Maybe that’s a region thing. I know here in Oklahoma we call it a beach towel.

message 413: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments I'd never heard of a beach blanket (I'm central Scotland) but have just googled and it does seem to be a thing. Found an article on the 8 best beach blankets of 2019 and they're kind of like tarps. Sandproof, waterproof and some are even weighted so they don't blow away. Who knew.

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments Beach towel (big towel you can sit /lie on) and picnic blanket here in Australia. Two different things but you could use a picnic blanket at the beach. Blankets are squarer than beach towels. Helpful? No. hahaha

That picture looks like a table cloth to me because of the shape and colour.

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments I've read Daughter of the Pirate King so that takes care of another reverse. I'll do a proper spreadsheet update later but I don't think there are many left.

Jen (book_worm23) | 229 comments Just a heads up. I was going to read They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera as my next read. And I was looking through the Detective teams list and at least two teams (Miss Marple and Stephanie Plum) have someone that has read it either this month or last.
I know it can't be used until we've completed all the tasks but its such a short read and been sitting in my TBR pile for a while, I figured I might as well. :)

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments STATUS UPDATE

There's just one week left of March so quick update on where we're at

Main Challenge
We have 10 of the 15 hands completed with 2 more only needing a couple of cards. All reverse cards are now filled and there is only one colour card (Green 5) to fill. Other than that it's mostly 5s (although I can do some rearranging if needed)

March Mini
Most of the tasks are completed or have a book planned for them. Other than the remaining letters for the spell it out the only task still open is "main character who works in a shop" so if you have anything let me know.

As far as tasks with books against them, I have the following:-

1. Read a book with at least 3 people on the cover - Ignite - Jessi

13. Read a book where a character is waiting for something or someone - Brother Odd - Lauri

20. Read a book with a blanket on the cover - Elisabeth

36. Read a book with a white cover - Size 12 is Not Fat - Lauri

38. Read a book with R-U-N in the title (doesn't need to be in that order) - My Fairy Godmother is a Drag Queen - Lauri

39. Read a book with H-I-D-E in the title (doesn't need to be in that order) - Everything I never told you - Lauri

Can you let me know if this is right and you'll be able to complete the tasks by the end of the month? I'm currently trying to decide what to read next so can probably cover something if anyone's struggling.

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments Fantastic. I finished the main character works in a shop book and am now trying to get a call from the captain's group on a book for that last colour card. If all else fails I'll see if there's a classic that'll fit. There seems to be a lot of them with mostly green covers.

message 442: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments My Mini March book with the blanket cover also has a character called Ingrid --a 5 card. I may come across more useful names because Powell has a recurring cast of thousands in the Dance to the Music Of Time series.

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments OK, I think we're all up to date and I've found homes for everything (I have no doubt I'll need to rearrange).

All the tasks for the mini are now covered so it's just the spell it out left, we need 2 Ds, 2 Cs and 1 O. There's also an M left but my current read will fit that one (it may fit elsewhere but that's all I've found so far).

On the main challenge there are 14 books needed to complete all hands. Still mostly 5s but I can do some rearranging if needed so don't worry too much about finding books to fit that particular card.

Alison (a1ison74) | 1050 comments On the Green 5 we have left in hand 15, did anyone find anything? I haven't had much response in the captains group on my possibility, it's kind of 50/50. I can however re read Northanger Abbey if needed.

Hey Alison, does this count as enough green on the cover? The Revenge of Seven (Lorien Legacies, #5) by Pittacus Lore , if so I was actually considering using it as one of my last reads for the month? It's also the 5th book in the series. So, it should work? Hopefully?
