That's one that's on the edge for me between blue & green.....
What do the rest of the team think? green?

TinEye says green too, so let's agree it's green :)

Sassafrass (sass-a-frass) | 497 comments I don't know if anyone has got a book for this but I have

Wicked All the Way (Wicked Lovers, #6.5) by Shayla Black that I know I'm going to read next month that fits for 6 red

message 54: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments The 6 Red is all yours, Sass! :)

message 55: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 303 comments I am also up for reading the sucky book (realised that I forgot to include that) :) If we all read it, are all reverses for February covered?

message 56: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments we've got 6 Reverses and 7 team members, so yup, if we did a team group read of Kadin that would be all of the Reverses covered (plus a Skip / 2)!

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments This morning I found myself spending a lot of time eyeing up my commute-neighbour's book - it had a yellow cover so I was trying to work out the title. As I was sitting on the wrong side to see the cover, I had to resort to side-eyeballing the blurb, to see if I could identify the author or title there (I got MacA something for the author), and regretting that, as a Brit, I was utterly unable to just ask what he was reading!

Anyone else get nosey about what random people are reading? You ever ask them? Anyone asked you?

(the book, I discovered, when he closed it face up to WhatsApp was Doing Good Better Effective Altruism and a Radical New Way to Make a Difference by William MacAskill . He then ruined everything by turning down the whole width of the page for a dog-ear, the MONSTER!)

Just grabbed it off the kindle store lol let's do this

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments FOUR DAYS TO GO!!!!!

Are you guys getting excited?!

I hope you're busy wrapping up reads, ready for a fresh start on Friday!

What are you planning on kicking off with? What can you recommend from your reading this month?

Can you all quickly check-in with at least an "I'm alive & still going to play" message? :)

message 60: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments For me, I'm looking forward to it, lots! I'm currently reading Early Riser (on audio) and All the President's Men. I'll probably listen to some shorts on the audio after I finish that, and will start Les Miserable when I finish All the President's Men: I'm doing a slow BR over on NBRC, lasting a year, so we are taking our time.

I'm not sure what I'll start with yet... Kadin for sure, but that'll be a quick commute read...

Nikki ~ The Nocturnal Bookworm (nyxreadsstuff) I’m alive and still going to play!!

Finishing up some reads today as well. Working on I'll Be Gone in the Dark: One Woman's Obsessive Search for the Golden State Killer and Norse Mythology. I’m hoping to also get in Queen Takes Knights and Maids of Misfortune before February as well.

Nikki ~ The Nocturnal Bookworm (nyxreadsstuff) I'm torn for what to start with in February between Insects and Frankenstein.

Insects by John Koloen Frankenstein (The Original 1818 'Uncensored' Edition) by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley

message 63: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments Well, I've discovered what I'll be reading first up! The Wedding Date - I'm reading it for NBRC, and setting DQs for day 1 (2 Feb)

Fingers crossed for a useful character for spell out, as it's a lovely red cover :)
The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory

Ye gads, Nikki! Insects looks utterly terrifying! Horror is not my bag at all! But, I do like an I book :)
I reread Frankenstein last year (poss last Uno, as I had a green cover edition!), and forgot (1) how much of it was based in the Romanticism tradition, with pages and pages and pages of waxing lyrical about the countryside and (2) how much of an utter TOOL Victor F is! I enjoyed Kiersten White's retelling from Eliabeth's point of view (The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein) which embraced & ran with the Obnoxious Victor vibe

message 64: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 303 comments I'm also alive and still playing ! Sorry, still am not used to checking the actual notifications through the app :)

I've put a few things in the team spreadsheet that I am planning to read in February. I am unsure on whether to read Shift and Dust by Hugh Howey this month or wait to see how the cards play out the next month. Shift is definitely a blue cover and Dust is a yellow cover and both fill out a few card numbers. Do I read in February or wait to see if I can use them for the harder to fill colour cards down the line ? :s

message 65: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 303 comments Also finishing up a chunky novel before February- Just Henry by Michelle Magorian. Any fans of Goodnight Mister Tom should read. It's easy but heart warming, what I need after driving home from work in the dark and the rain!

Cat, I may join in for that book. It looked cute and I had added it to my TBR not knowing that it was a BOM in NBRC.

message 67: by Cecily (new)

Cecily Black | 148 comments I am still around, checking in a lot and seeing where everyone is at! So excited for this challenge to finally start. It is like when I am between challenges I can't decide what to read lol

Nikki ~ The Nocturnal Bookworm (nyxreadsstuff) uuugh I cant wait for the next 5 hours to go by so I can start mine lol Im excited! I'm gonna start with Violet Eyes

Violet Eyes by John Everson

Whoo-hoo!

message 73: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments E, Melinda, it's a free, quick book that gets us through several reverses! We're totally doing it! :)

Oddly, I was able to cope with all manner of stupid, like the naked escaping, the mammogram-ish "massaging of breasts" (is it just me, but I just don't find that description in the least sexy?), but got stuck on the revelation that Kadin Marres' real name is Kadin Marrent. because MARRES is the weird bit of his name!

message 74: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Omg, stop spoilering! You're ruining all the "fun" o.O Hahaha

For me, it was most of all the first chapter that did it. The switch in emotional gear from both of them gave me whiplash. It was just downhill from there.

Hahahahaha! I am awful with inadvertent spoilers! Sorry guys!

message 76: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments But then, I was joking haha. There isn't enough in the book for there to even be spoilers *grin*

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments Eldarwen wrote: "But then, I was joking haha. There isn't enough in the book for there to even be spoilers *grin*"

My favourite bit: at the end, the author clearly realised there was nothing to a character, and in an effort to make them rounded, chucked a whole load of issues in, completely from left-field. I was like, "no, dude, that's not how you create a character!"

message 78: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Wait... you mean.. that's really not how it's done? But... it worked sooo well!

message 79: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments OH MY GOD, Cat has read Kadin!!!!!!!!

Popping in from Mikael Blomkvist to say yay, and it is about time.
Seriously though, if you are having your team read this marvel, try having them name all of the genres that the "author" tries to jam into that lovely little book.

Have fun...teehee

message 80: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Short answer: everything!! lol

message 81: by Teddie (new)

Teddie (teddieg) | 1012 comments Oh geez - congratulations Cat? When I read that for quidditch I was sitting in the living room, and my 12 year old daughter kept wanting to see the book that made me laugh so hard.
Uh, no.

message 82: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments My wonderful team have volunteered to join the Kadin craziness :) No arm-twisting here! And, might I add, we are going to relish in the fun of reading it! :)

one of the best things about self-publishing is the fantastic niches that an author creates. alien-dragon-shifter-erotica-romance-thriller is just one example!

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Ah, yes! Cannot forget that one!

message 86: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments I was sad at the lack of fizzing alien cum*, but I guess there's only so much perfection possible in one book!

*discovered in The Alien's Pet, which is as the muddy scum below Kadin's feet

message 87: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Oh god, I forgot about that one. (For a reason).
Kadin has a slightly better plot than Mirror: Awakening though.

Sassafrass (sass-a-frass) | 497 comments Are we supposed to post completions here or just on the SS?

message 92: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments I'm OK with one or the other :)

I'm posting here as it might help with reverses / general bookish chat. So, let us know if you read a really good one that you want to urge us to add to our lists!

BTW, The Wedding Date is super cute so far.

message 93: by Sassafrass (new)

Sassafrass (sass-a-frass) | 497 comments I'm on line for the Wedding Date, so hopefully, I'll be able to get to it!

And thanks!!

message 94: by Cally (new)

Cally (c_hope_b) Cat you are so fast!! I'm going to get started on Kadin today :)

Sorry for not posting so much! I started a new job and have been reading training materials all day which has somewhat killed the joy of reading. :)

message 95: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 303 comments Good luck in your new job Cally!

I've downloaded Kadin and have started one other book, hopefully will finish both this weekend. Kadin certainly sounds interesting from the comments so far...

message 96: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments A new job, Cally! congratulations - that's exciting :)

We're off to a great start: 13 books finished, and we've filled our first hand too! I call that an excellent weekend's reading! :)

and I see that Dawn's now a paid-up member of the Kadin Readers' Club! How was your experience, Dawn? Eyes not aching from too much rolling of them at the silliness?!

message 97: by Sassafrass (new)

Sassafrass (sass-a-frass) | 497 comments How many reverses do we have? I was hoping to put Kadin off until next month. LOL

message 98: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments we have 5 left. If you don't fancy reading Kadin right now (I can't imagine why you haven't already devoured it! ;-P) that's absolutely fine - there are a couple of other books that'll fit reserves being planned, so not a worry :)

message 99: by Sassafrass (new)

ok, I'm on it! LOL, I definitely get it done. I have jury duty tomorrow. They'll be holding me captive for several hours so I guess I can do it then. LOL

message 100: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments Jury duty! I've never served, but I've heard that you defo need books for the boring waiting (pro tip: not during the case, unless you want to be kicked into jail for not being a good juror!) Kadin is max 1 hour of reading though, so be sure to take some other books :)
