Kelly | 976 comments It was really good - VERY different from your usual mystery. Bit of a gothic feel to it, and the premise takes a wee bit of getting used to but so worth it!!

I didn't love it. It started off really great but really underwhelmed me by the end. I almost didn't finish it.

But I do think I"ll check out the Pendergast books. I've heard so much good about those!

Laila Jane (axlilxlala) | 541 comments I finished A Man Called Ove. I put it down for a Skip since we have 7 of those still to fill.

Also currently reading Blue-Eyed Devil which is my Blue 2 book

message 664: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 2453 comments Thanks Laila! Did you enjoy A Man Called Ove? I really liked it.

message 665: by Laila Jane (new)

Laila Jane (axlilxlala) | 541 comments I did! I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started it, but so many people recommended it that it didn’t matter. I must’ve gone through so many emotions reading it - from sadness to anger to amusement to complete heartbreak. I just loved Ove’s neighbors. I definitly recommend this to anyone who hasn’t read it yet

Melissa Harre | 21 comments Hey everyone. I'm reading the Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris. It will work for a 3 card and a blue cover card.

I thought the same when I started - 'who is this grumpy old man!?' - but the whole neighbor support/friendship/relationship building in that book was so strong - I loved it.

Hi Mielissa! That book looks so good - you sure have picked some good titles.

Suzanne | 2453 comments Hello - my lovely team! The mini challenge for April is up - link is here:
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Books started during Uno and finished after April 15 will count. Basically it is a choose your own adventure. I would LOVE input from the team about our chosen adventure, but I also feel like we need the tasks nailed down fairly quickly. So if you have time, please post what adventure you would like our team to choose by tomorrow night, US time. Then we can be sure to fill in the appropriate spreadsheet on Monday when it starts.

I will put my opinions in the next post.

message 670: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 2453 comments So what I did, was go to this spreadsheet:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

At the bottom there are tabs for each complete path, which list the tasks we would have to do. If I chose my adventure by choosing my preferred tasks, I would pick B2ba, B2bb, or B2aa. (you can see I liked B2 best).

However, I also like finding books for any tasks, and I'd be happy to do any of these with our team!!

If I were to choose my own adventure using the storyline, my path would be:
A2aa.

I would love any input/choices any of you would like to make!!

message 671: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 976 comments Oh that’s hard!! I quite like B2bb. There’s just so many choices!

message 672: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 2453 comments Yeah there really are! And I think we will be just fine with whatever path we choose. Finding books for tasks is fun!

message 673: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 976 comments For sure! I’m not overly fussed whatever path - they’re all pretty interesting. I also have a couple of books I’ve finished and need to post up but currently screens make my sickness worse, so I’m saving them up to do when I’m feeling a bit better!

message 674: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 2453 comments I'm sure glad you've still been able to read :) But wow I'm sure you are quite tired of feeling ill.

message 680: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 976 comments It was the last name of one of the characters - Garrett Swopes.

message 681: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 2453 comments Thanks! I'm so bad with names and that carries over to books :)

message 682: by Suzanne (new)

message 686: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 2453 comments Thanks Kelly! It worked well listing challenge options last month, and that will continue to be helpful.

Oh a heads up for "street on cover" - they are going with a pretty narrow definition of street. It is:
a public road in a city or town, typically with houses and buildings on one or both sides

Also, we need to be sure to justify completely - in my opinion what Kelly did was fine, but if I ask any of you for more information, that is why. :)

message 687: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 976 comments I remember last time you needed justification so I thought I’d add it in this time to save you running around asking me haha. And that’s a VERY narrow definition!!

message 688: by Laila Jane (new)

Laila Jane (axlilxlala) | 541 comments Hi girls! Sorry I haven't been around the last few days. Saturday was my cousin's bridal shower which I helped host and Sunday was my son's 2nd birthday party. Monday I took to recover =D

I finished my Blue 2 book. Reading To All the Boys I've Loved Before for a different team challenge, which we can use for Reverse.

I took a look at the mini-challenge. The ones I'm liking are:
B2-B2a-B2aa
B2-B2a-B2ab
B2-B2b-B2bb

Are all the different streams the same number of points?

message 689: by Laila Jane (new)

Laila Jane (axlilxlala) | 541 comments Oh wait...just saw on the planning sheet that we're doing B2bb. I'm glad it ended up being one of the ones I liked lol

message 690: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 2453 comments We can always change it too! I am going to take a look at the other two you mentioned again :)

Wow sounds like a busy and fun weekend. I cannot believe your son is 2 - time goes by so quickly!!

message 691: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 2453 comments I like B2aa and B2ab as well - I do love these find a book type challenges - I kind of want to do them all!

If you have any strong preferences, be sure to speak up - at this point especially - it'd be super easy to switch. I kind of feel like the aa and ab ones have easier final "find a book" tasks and the second to last ones aren't bad - its just page length. We'd need a book over 450 pages, but that does seem to happen pretty regularly :) Is anyone reading a long book that you will have finished in April?

message 692: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 976 comments I will - the girl with all the gifts is 458 or something. I just checked the paperback copy I have out.

message 693: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 2453 comments Oh cool. Hmm...ok so we could change if we so desire.

The differences would be: B2a
15B2a*: read a book with 101-150 pages
16B2a*: read a book with 151-200 pages
17B2a*: read a book with 201-250 pages
18B2a*: read a book with 251-300 pages
19B2a*: read a book with 301-350 pages
20B2a*: read a book with 351-400 pages
21B2a*: read a book with 401-450 pages
22B2a*: read a book with more than 450 pages

Vs. (what we have now)
15B2b*: G
16B2b*: B
17B2b*: A
18B2b*: C
19B2b*: read a book where a character receives a surprise or shock
20B2b*: read a book with a grey cover
21B2b*: read a book that's #10 or higher in a series
22B2b*: read a book with an average rating over 4.2

Final choices
B2aa (for me, this is the easiest of the final choices)
23B2aa*: read a book with a Crime MPG
24B2aa*: read a book with a very dark cover
25B2aa*: read a book with a creepy cover
26B2aa*: read a book where someone is attacked
27B2aa*: read a book with a villain
28B2aa*: read a book with a werewolf character
29B2aa*: read a book with a vampire character
30B2aa*: read a book with "evil" in the text or title

B2ab
23B2ab*: read a book where someone is very happy
24B2ab*: read a book with a night sky on the cover
25B2ab*: read a book where a character does the right thing
26B2ab*: read a book with "good" in the text or title
27B2ab*: read a book with "lucky" in the text or title
28B2ab*: read a book with some kind of sports equipment on the cover
29B2ab*: read a book with a happy ending
30B2ab*: read a book with a pink cover

B2bb
23B2bb*: read a book that is a light and fluffy read
24B2bb*: read a book with a Romance MPG
25B2bb*: read a book with a mirror on the cover
26B2bb*: read a book where a character starts over
27B2bb*: read a book with a character who listens to music
28B2bb*: read a book with a love triangle
29B2bb*: read a book with an orange cover
30B2bb*: read a book with a character who reads

Let me know opinions - if you think we should change or not.

message 694: by M (new)

M Beal | 317 comments For the final choice I am all for B2aa but the popular vote seems to be for B2bb.

message 695: by Laila Jane (new)

Laila Jane (axlilxlala) | 541 comments I feel like B2a might be slightly easier than B2b. From there we could do B2aa

message 696: by M (new)

M Beal | 317 comments I agree Laila Jane

message 697: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 976 comments I’m happy with whatever - I have five books to load up that will fit in with all of those.

message 698: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 2453 comments I think it'd be just fine to switch to B2aa - and after looking at the bb things more closely, aa may be easier!

I'll get the spreadsheets switched around in just a little bit :)

message 699: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 2453 comments And thanks SO MUCH for the input!!

message 700: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 2453 comments Ok everything is all switched around on our planning and main spreadsheet. Keep checking in books. But just a note that I will be away tomorrow through Sunday night - I'll update things Sunday night or Monday though :)

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
