2019 PIFM Bingo -- 12/25

The idea here, is you can either pick something from my old TBR shelves, or you can recommend something unshelved for me to read, based on my likes/dislikes and books I've read before... all I ask is that there be audio available somewhere (Audible is the best reference here... or just checking Amazon, which knows which books are on audible with the format options)...

Maybe pick 2 books, and I'll read 1 (or both, if the mood strikes)

1. Manju = Boy's Life / The Wolf's Hour / Fifth Business
4. Virginie = Spoonbenders / Johannes Cabal the Necromancer
6. Angela Jr. = Station Eleven / The Martian
8. Narilka = The Fold / 14 / Sabriel
11. Anni = The Rook / The Eighth Guardian / The Paper Magician / A Thousand Pieces of You
15. Soo = Patient Zero / Space Team / The Feedback Loop

It's a PIFM / Recommendations Bingo challenge, since I don't really add much to my digital TBR anymore... I'll create some multi-shelf links to give people ideas, but it's an either/or thing... you can pick something I have shelved or just use my high-ratings shelves as inspiration for recommendations unshelved... my main stipulation is that I need audio to exist, since I barely ever make time for eReading anymore...

I figured... most of the books you recommended in October/November are in the historical shelf, which is linked above, now...

multi-shelf links are all setup... it was actually easier than I expected, since my shelves are formatted for sorting... i just started editiing the genre name in the URL to make each link... (and make sure the hybrid shelf wasn't empty, which was the case with a couple small genres I rarely dabble into...)

My mystery/thriller shelves might be a little misleading, since I read most of the Harry Bosch, Mitch Rapp, Jack Reacher, and author John Grisham (not sure if I gave these 5 stars or not) books pre-Goodreads...

Virginie | 6109 comments PIFM Recommendations: Spoonbenders and/or Johannes Cabal the Necromancer and/or Kiss of Steel

Haven't read any of them, and will happily BR those with you during the year :D (especially Spoonbenders, since I've got to read it for my own Bingo :p)

there are some bugs in my shelves, where I TBR'd one edition of a book, and rated/reviewed another... I've tried to fix these problems when I notice them...

I tried my hand at inventing a challenge, since so many people seem to be... I mashed together the November/December challenge, Laura's Spell Caster challenge, and my love of points, into a Wheel of Fortune type, A-Z challenge, where you pick books who's name/author/series start with that letter, but earn points for how many times that letter appears in those 3 places... I'm more wordy in my description, and include a few examples, above...

Somehow, you guys honed in on half the mistakes in my shelves... Oathbringer, Blood Song, and Kiss of Steel... somehow, I have rated/reviewed the 2nd & 3rd Raven's Shadow books, but not the first... and I haven't rated any of the London Steampunk books, even tho I'm pretty sure I read the whole series, then couldn't find the sequel series on audio...

YUP... just checked... I bought all 6 on Audible in November 2016...

Read RPO last March, so I put Station Eleven & The Martian on my list... I liked the Martian movie when I watched it a year or 2 ago...

Angela Jr. | 1126 comments The movie is a really good adaptation! I liked it too. Don't watch the RPO adaptation though, that one is unfortunately not that great...

Narilka | 5706 comments For your bingo...

Since you enjoyed Paradox Bound, you should give The Fold or 14 a shot. They are great on audio and I liked both of them more than Paradox Bound so far :) Another great audio listen is Tim Curry's narration for Sabriel, which also happens to be pretty darn good YA!

Let me know if I should go pick something from your TBR too.

message 35: by Anni (new)

Anni | 5066 comments Hmmm that's a tough decision, as you already read a ton of books, I will just pick books from my TBR that I think you might like :)

The Rook and I also found something timetraveling-y: The Eighth Guardian 😬 I'm not sure about the audio tho... There is an audio version, as you can buy an aufio cd, but I don't think it's available on audible.

The Rook has been on my radar for awhile, from a previous recommendation challenge, and Veronica reading it last year, I think... but the Paper Magician sounds awesome... definitely want to make time to read that with you over the next few days :)

Uh... no idea... people keep talking me into things, to where I've always got 5-6 books on my plate and very little breathing room :S

In the last day or so, I went from mostly caught up, to interested in reading a half-dozen books with people:

The Reality Dysfunction
Sabriel
The Paper Magician
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
Life in the North
On the Shoulders of Titans

As they are discussing other things right now in the YA thread, I asked for a new thread and set tomorrow as starting date. I think I will start tonight or tomorrow, as the audiobook is only 7 1/2 h you might read it in one session anyway 😂
