The Viking Ship Museum located in Roskile, displays five Viking vessels that offer incredible insight in the world of the Viking people and their era between 800 AD and 1100 AD. These ships are known as the Skuldelev Ships, due to the fact that they were found sunk in Skuldelev in a deliberate act by the Vikings to form a barrier to enemy vessels.

Northern Europe's largest Medival ruin, Hammershus Castle is located on the island of Bornholm. Some of the ruins date back to the thirteenth century. It was once an important fortress in Bornholm's medieval past, it served as a prison during the 17th century, and today a light show illuminates the castle ruins at night.

One of the most dangerous ports in the US during the early 19th century, Portland was the epicenter of an illicit maritime practice known as shanghaiing, which was a form of human trafficking. They were held captive, drugged and then transported to the waterfront where they were sold to ships as unpaid laborers. Some worked for years before finding their way back home. It is said the the tunnels are haunted by the spirits of captives who died there.

This R.M.S. Queen Mary was an ocean liner that sailed the Atlantic from 1936 to 1967. During her first three years, the Queen Mary carried well-known celebrities such as Elizabeth Taylor and Audrey Hepburn, as well as dignitaries like General Dwight Eisenhower. In 1939, the Queen Mary began her second life as the "Grey Ghost," a World War II troopship. After the war, restored to her former glory and sailed the Atlantic for nearly two more decades. The Queen Mary departed on her last cruise on October 31, 1967, docking at her final destination of Long Beach, California. Reportedly, the Queen Mary is haunted by those who died aboard, such as a crew member who was murdered in cabin B30, and the the young sailor crushed to death by a door in the engine room.

F.O. and Flora Stanley opened the Stanley Hotel in 1090 - and reportedly never left. According to staff members, Mrs. Stanley can be heard playing her Steinway piano in the music room at night, and Mr. Stanley shows up periodically in photographs. Ther have also been reports of children's laughter heard in the hallways, lights being turned on and off, as well as bags being unpacked. Nestled in Colorado’s mountain wilderness it inspired Stephen King’s best-selling, The Shining.

✔7. Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, Weston, West Virginia:
Opened to patients in 1864, this asylum was built to maximize sunlight and fresh air, and it was believed the building would serve as a healing environment. While the building was designed to house 250 people, by the 1950's it housed 2,400. Due to reforms in mental health treatment, the facility was forced to close in 1994. Hundreds of patients died in the asylum. Guests and ghost hunters alike claimed to see shadowy figures roaming the asylum's crumbling halls.

Three children playing in a cart near the tower fell into the ocean and drowned. Visitors have reported seeing the keeper watching the grounds.
