Great choice especially for reading in winter. Really liked this one.

message 3: by Quantum (new)

Quantum (quantumkatana) I liked it too, complex and visceral. ((view spoiler))

message 4: by Graeme (new)

Graeme Rodaughan Hi Alex, I had the same experience, and that subplot could have been ripped out, thrown into a bloody sack and dumped in a grimy, rat-infested alleyway for all I cared.

Hello Terry! I'm in a reading slump ☹️ and a group read seems like the perfect cure 🤓

message 18: by Terry (new)

Terry | 5364 comments Anybody else get started? I cheated and started a couple of days early, but I've only made it about fifty pages or so, up to October 23. I've seen the movie, so no great surprises yet.

message 19: by Tim (new)

Tim (tlittlefield) | 44 comments I did start a little early as well. I had finished something else and dived into this one. I have not seen the movie but can only imagine how disturbing the movie could be.

message 20: by Terry (new)

Terry | 5364 comments I have a feeling the book is going to be more disturbing in the long run. Lots of stuff you just didn't know was going on in the minds of our characters while watching it.

message 21: by Tim (new)

Tim (tlittlefield) | 44 comments Agreed, The internal dialogue among the characters proves your point

Cool Carleton! It sounds like the movie is vastly different then the movie?

I hope so because I hate reading books that are Carbon Copies of Movies One of the reasons I like Stephen Kings books more than movies they are different and give you a complete different experience. I recently read Jaws that Book is totally different from the Movie Although in the case of Jaws the Movie was better than the book.

Completely agree with you on this Carleton! I am watching the mini-series of 11/22/63 right now and they changed a lot of the book to fit most things into one season. Ugh!
Stephen King books are almost always better then the movie or TV series!

I have been putting that one off I wanted to read the book first Same with Under the Dome even though I have heard many people say Under the Dome is not great. Next Stephen King Book I plan on reading is The Outsider which will be here today So pumped for this one, Also was really happy that The Institute was announced last week.

Enjoy! I've heard that The Outsider is pretty good. Still need to get to that one.
11/22/63 is great. It's a bit different then his horror books but I still loved it!

I’m a little less than 1/4 into the book, and so far, Carleton, the book and movies have been pretty close to the same. The difference, of course, is in learning more about the characters through the internal dialogue that you don’t get in the movie.

message 35: by Greg (new)

Greg | 383 comments Halfway through. This is my second time reading this one. Doing the audio version this time. Other than a few weird pronunciations the narrator does a good job. Such and excellent book. I went and picked up the American and Swedish films off of Amazon $12 for each blu Ray. I enjoyed both of the movies as well. The American film is vastly different but still a fun horror movie. I really like Chloe Grace Moretz.

message 36: by Terry (new)

Terry | 5364 comments I agree, Greg. I enjoyed both movies as well.

message 37: by Graeme (new)

Graeme Rodaughan This story really stuck in my mind. It gets under your skin.

message 38: by Terry (new)

Terry | 5364 comments Definitely Graeme. Very interesting aspects to this story that made me say ‘hmmm?’!

message 39: by Graeme (new)

Graeme Rodaughan I'll tell you what, there are a few twists and turns to come that are in the book, and not represented in either of the movies.

I should've re-read this with you, it would've been a blast.

message 40: by Terry (new)

Terry | 5364 comments You should have! I'm glad to hear you say that about the twists, too. That's what I was hoping for.

message 41: by Graeme (new)

Graeme Rodaughan How far in are you, perhaps I could dive in and catch up.

message 42: by Graeme (new)

Graeme Rodaughan Diving in.

message 43: by Terry (new)
