Topher | 129 comments I’m just wondering if anybody belongs to any book box subscriptions? More importantly, any book box subscriptions that ships to Canada that won’t break the bank? I poked around on google and seen a few. Initially the price is good, then you see it’s in USD, and then shipping is added! So what starts out as a 9.99 ends up to be 20-30 or more $$$.

Now I’m a happy member of Goldsboro Book of the Month Club. Just one book, little if any swag, but always a signed first edition, usually in brodart covering and numbered. Far better value than swag.

I don't know what the shipping is like to Canada but:

Topher | 129 comments Thank you. Took a look. With shipping it’s 63 dollars. That be for the rich Canadians lol

I don't know if they ship to Canada or not.

I was just about to recommend that one too! It's my favorite subscription :-)

Topher | 129 comments Do you two belong to that one @Char and @Heather?

message 9: by Char (new)

Char | 17463 comments I do not, but I'm friends with many of their subscribers, all of whom seem super happy with the boxes so far.

Nightworms is a relatively new service and I think Twitterstone is too. Both were created in the void that Nocturnal Reader's Box left when they disintegrated late last year.

Melanie | 1656 comments Nightworms looks *amazing* but they don't ship internationally :( @SadieHartman New Zealand NEEDS a horror book box sub!

Loot crate does a sub called Loot-Fright and they ship to NZ so they probably do Canada. It's $50 including shipping here which is a bit out of my price range at the moment, and it's not so much books as t-shirts and paraphernalia.

message 11: by Char (new)

Char | 17463 comments Yeah, I can't really afford to buy a box where things are just automatically shipped to me.

As a reviewer, I get a lot of books free from the publishers, (mostly ebooks, but some paper books as well), so I can't justify buying a box that might consist of a bunch of books I already read and probably own.

message 12: by Topher (new)

Topher | 129 comments Being a reviewer sounds like a good gig!

I hear you about the money. Like I said, we get the conversion rate plus some shipping. I actually belong to a t-shirt/graphic novel one for the last couple of months. It's about 24 bucks Canadian.

I took a look at night worms also, no shipping to Canada with those guy!

message 13: by Char (new)

Char | 17463 comments Aww, that's a bummer. :(

I believe that Nightworms is now open to Canadian customers. I do belong to this one (the only one I allow myself), mostly because they don't include a lot of "useless" things--they have quality books, and a few "bookish" items that you will actually use--especially to those who review. :)

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 3047 comments I have no idea how book box descriptions even work. Anyone care to fill me in? I feel like I'm missing out on something both as a reader and author lol.

i have loot fright and i've liked the 3 boxes i've got so far. this last one included a chucky & tiffany blanket! there's no books in them, though.

they are a subscription box. loot fright is every other month so there's all kinds of time schedules for them. most of the time you don't know what your getting. kinda like a grab bag.

Topher | 129 comments I got two subs. I got a bark box for my dogs. I also am trying loot dirty business...Aka 1 T-shirt 1 pair of underwear and 1 pair of sucks. Transformers theme. I tried another one that I just cancelled that came with a T-shirt and two books aka graphic novels and I still haven’t gotten my January box so I quit. If the shirt knocks my socks off I’ll go back.
