Of Butterflies & Books | 3 comments Hi, nice to meet you. I'm a big fan of historical romance. The one series I'm currently reading is Philippa Gregory's The Cousin War series. If you go to her wiki page it has the order they were published in, but she recommends the order starting with her book, The Lady of the Rivers, and then reading in order of where each book falls chronologically throughout history. It's so good and the way she writes about it is like it was the closest thing to the real-life Game of Thrones. Another one is the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. It's a mix of historical fiction/fantasy because there is an element of time-travel. But those are really lengthy and in-depth books, but really worth it if you end up enjoying them. Although, if you like the whole historical fiction/time travel type of story I would also recommend Into the Dim by Janet B. Taylor. I believe that is just a duology so it could be a really quick, but fun read.
The Lady of the Rivers (The Plantagenet and Tudor Novels, #1) by Philippa Gregory Outlander (Outlander, #1) by Diana Gabaldon
Into the Dim (Into the Dim, #1) by Janet B. Taylor

HR-ML (hr-movielover) Lord of Scoundrels
Readers had mixed feelings about this one. This wild man finds a
woman who stands toe to toe with him.

Karen Turner | 1 comments Hi Vienna!
I love, love, love Pamela Belle. You probably haven't heard of her but she's an English author whose research is impeccable and whose skill as a story teller is unmatched. Start with The Moon in the Water and its sequel The Chains of Fate. You'll probably only find the books 2nd hand on Amazon or eBay but they're well worth it. Ms Belle only wrote a handful of books in the histrom genre and I wish she'd written more. My inspiration!!

Hi Karen, Thanks for the recommendation. I've become a Historical Romance Junkie over the last few months and love finding those hidden gems from authors who probably deserve more credit.
Do you have a Book Challenge for 2019?

Although I love a good damsel in distress saved by strong hero book, I equally love a strong female protagonist who who feels that she doesn't need a knight to save her. Sounds like an interesting read

Heroine in Wonderful is an ale maker and very independent. And a lady.
I'd start w/ A Simple Case of Seduction. A mystery w/ some sexy goings on.
PS I did GR reviews on both of these books.

What level of "steam" do you like in your books? I can recommend a lot of them, but I am not sure what your preferences are there bc I know it makes a difference for a lot of folks.... I prefer the steamier end of the spectrum ;)

This is one of my faves (Grace Callaway is one of my fave HR authors!), and it is currently free on Amazon US/UK (even better!), so if you haven't read it yet, you may want to add it --> The Duke Who Knew Too Much (Heart of Enquiry, #1) by Grace Callaway
US -- https://www.amazon.com/Duke-Knew-Much...
UK -- https://www.amazon.co.uk/Duke-Knew-Mu...

KJ Jackson is another fave of mine, and this one is free right now too --> Stone Devil Duke (Hold Your Breath, #1) by K.J. Jackson
US --- https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...
(If you like paranormal/fantasy romances, I loved this series of hers as well, and the first one in it is free currently --> Flame Moon (Flame Moon, #1) by K.J. Jackson US --- https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...)

I also love pretty much anything by Jess Michaels, Stacey Reid, Lynsay Sands, Tessa Dare, Julie Garwood, Lisa Kleypas, Loretta Chase, Lorraine Heath, Judith McNaught, Margaret Mallory, Monica McCarty....
And Karen Marie Moning's Highlanders series!

You may be able to read some of these? on OpenLibrary, which is
free.

Vienna | 10 comments Thank you guys for all of the suggestions. I’m half way though my reading book challenge and less than half way through the year!!!

Do you guys have a reading book challenge ? Comment your goal and progress so far!!

message 16: by HR-ML (last edited May 24, 2019 09:35AM) (new)

HR-ML (hr-movielover) Vienna----

I've completed 68% toward my GR goal of 120 books. But I'm retired and have more free time.

You forgot to tell us: do you like 'clean' romances? sexy? erotic?
fantasy romances? time-travel romances?

message 17: by Vienna (new)

Vienna | 10 comments HR-ML——

Hey! Congrats on your achievements so far! I’m trying to reach my goal but as you know life can sometimes get in the way.
Hmm I used to be a fan of erotic novels especially during my paranormal romance phase. But now, I definitely prefer more of a ‘clean’ romance with spicy elements ? If that makes sense.

I haven’t read any time travel romance books yet but Outlander is on my ‘want to read’ list.

HR-ML (hr-movielover) Vienna---

Crumpets and Cowpies
I did a GR review on this Western romance. The H+h agreed to a MOC with
no sexual congress. But this was so hard on the rugged, virile hero.
It was witty and I enjoyed when the straight-laced heroine began to thaw.

HR-ML (hr-movielover) Vienna--

Caught by the Scot
I saw several Scottish HRs on the books you've read list, on your profile pg. This H was virile yet vulnerable. And made a wonderful gesture towards the end for the h. Few heroes would even contemplate this.

Vienna | 10 comments Do those who done know yet, Johanna Lindsey passes away today. I’ve only just recently discovers her books and have been reading them non stop these last few months. Highly recommend all historical romance fans. We’ve lost a good author.

Jacqueline Seewald (jacquelineseewald) | 112 comments I've been a fan of Johanna Lindsey's novels for many years. I had just finished reading her last book when I saw the news and felt terribly sad. Her historical romances inspired me to write my own. I particularly loved her humorous Regency romances.
