Joanne (joabroda1) | 12584 comments Still ill, and feeling crumpy!

Been watching and really enjoying Victoria on Masterpiece. Anyone else?
The scenes this week from The Isle of Wright were just breath taking, and I wondered if anyone had ever been there, and if it is as beautiful as it looks on screen.

Where is the most beautiful place you have ever been? For me, that would be Krakow-I have been there 3 times and each time I discover something different. The Main Square, were you can sit and enjoy a beverage , the churches(especially St. Mary's) that take your breath away. Wawel the Royal Castle that sweeps you back in time, the Rynek underground........I could go on and on!

Tell me about your favorite beauty, take me away and let me live vicariously!😉

Holly R W | 3120 comments It's a very cold and bitter day here in Ohio. I like your idea of thinking about beautiful places we've been to. You've started me day dreaming! I hope you feel better soon!

My favorite place to be is not exotic at all. I like to be in the woods, watching the sunlight pour through the leaves on a warmer day.

Theresa | 15554 comments So thrilled to see someone jump into a Musing on a Monday!

As this plague morphed into a chest cold over the weekend, I too can use a little 'trip' to someplace wonderful.

There are so many places I've been and found special ... but the place that calls my soul is Paris. Strolling along the Seine as the evening light turns all mellow, Notre Dame just across the river, drawing me in, making me wonder how Quasimodo is doing up amongst the gargoyles. I stop at a patisserie, ordering something divine to eat and a citron presse, settling into my seat to watch all the elegant French women walking by, studying how effortlessly they wear their scarves. Eventually I stroll a block or two to the legendary Shakespeare & Co. where I spend some time browsing through the crowded aisles, reminiscing and finding treasures galore. When it is full dark, I head back towards the 7th Arrondissement until the moment I can see La Tour Eiffel. I cross to the middle of Le Pont Neuf or perhaps Le Pont des Artistes, settle on a bench and wait until La Tour Eiffel's glow starts to twinkle, for 5 minutes on the hour.

Amy | 12931 comments The Victoria season is actually saved, my husband and I haven’t started watching them yet, for season three. So many places of beauty we have been to, including Italy and the Amalfi coast, Paris, Israel and Jerusalem, Costa Rica, regular trips to Puerto Vallarta. We have a joke amongst our family, of all the places we are what is our most special and cherished place to be that gives us that happy feeling. For my mother it’s Mexico, for my father its New York City. For my husband it’s Jerusalem. For me it’s Aspen Colorado. And the four of us and our kids get to spend a lot of time in all four of these places, except for Jerusalem of course. My parents live in Aspen. Whenever I get to visit there, At least like about a month a year, I feel at peace, at home, and totally filled. It’s my happy place. For me, combined with the family element, it’s one the most spectacular places on earth. Slightly above the rest.

Tracy (tstan) | 1261 comments I’m snowed in with a grumpy, sick husband. I’m making gumbo and thinking of New Orleans, where I’d love to be walking in the Garden District or out in the swamps, watching alligators (they move slower this time of year).

But instead, I think I’ll start planning the garden for this year. Mmmm, fresh tomatoes...

message 7: by Charlotte (new)

Charlotte | 1701 comments I love Victoria!! Although I haven't been watching too many shows recently. Too much work and reading!

Krakow is one of my favorite cities, but I have to say I moved to the place that I think is most beautiful. Every time I drive around where I live I'm struck by how lucky I am. I'm in the foothills of the cascade mountains on the west side about an hour outside of Seattle. I can see several mountain peaks from my backyard and I'm a short drive away from beautiful hikes. I've lived here for about 3 years and because I love where I live, I've turned into a bit of a recluse. We rarely get snow but if I want to see it, I'm only 45 min from some ski slopes with beautiful sweeping views of the mountains. It's been such a warm winter for us this year, that we are already getting the beginning of spring. Daffodils are starting to poke through the ground and I know soon we will be met with so many beautiful flowers. I can't wait!

message 12: by Susie (new)

Susie Charlotte, I think I want to relocate after reading your description!

We’ve been to a lot of beautiful places, but the one that stands out for me is a tiny island in the Sulu Sea, just north of Borneo. It’s called Pulau Selingaan. We went there as there is a turtle conservation program there. We got to see turtles coming to shore and laying eggs, and we also set baby turtles free. The island itself was so remote and we felt like we were the only people there. The chalets are VERY basic, and can only accommodate 50 people. The night we stayed there were less than that. We spent an hour sitting on a part of the island where there was nobody in sight, just us two. Beautiful crystal clear blue water, palm trees, soft sand, perfect temperature, aaaaahhhhh. Take me back!

I have yet to visit Krakow (on the list!) but I have spent time in Washington State, and my niece lives about 45 minutes east of Seattle... such gorgeous scenery. I also spent time in Bellingham when a friend was living nearby. Love all the nearby islands, the life around the water.

Hmmm, I could say the buildings and architecture in St. Petersburg, Russia. Or, the architecture (love the balconies!) in New Orleans.

But, really, to use the word "beautiful", I'm more likely to go with nature, so...

...either the Canadian Rocky Mountains (only an hour-ish drive from where I live - if only I drove!!!!), or Alaska - again the beautiful snow-topped mountains!

So sorry to hear of your illness, Joanne. Hoping you'll be feeling well again soon. Also, thank you for starting a musings thread for everyone to share something beautiful from their mind's eye.

I love Jerusalem. The old city takes me back in time. I never tire of it. Amy, I agree with you that Aspen, Colorado is amazing. Such a beautiful place. There is little I love more than the mountains. Only Jerusalem can equal it for me. Mountains are peaceful for me, such serenity. I am so happy to be back in the mountains.

Tessa (FutureAuthor23) | 229 comments Wow. Is it embarrassing to say I've never even heard of Krakow??

Tessa (FutureAuthor23) | 229 comments The most beautiful place I have been to so far in my life is Ireland. My happiest places are in nature (especially the woods!) and anywhere there are rollercoasters like Cedar Point or Disney World.

message 34: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (athena78) | 74 comments Joanne and Theresa, I hope you're feeling better today!

Tracy - been there! Hope I don't sound to sexist when I say men can be such babies when they're sick!

I've yet to do much traveling...only place outside the US I've been in Mexico, and it was beautiful. The most memorable state I've visited thus far is Colorado (I'm seeing a pattern emerge here). I spent a few summers as a teenager working at a summer camp there...biking to Pueblo...spending a week in the Sangre De Cristo mountains sleeping next to chilling mountain streams, home to beavers and delicious trout...seeing an unbelievable panoramic view from a mountain peak, the blue skies are so clear and filled with blotches of fluffy cotton clouds...waking in the morning wearing sweats and in shorts and tee shirt by lunch time...sigh...makes me want to move there immediately! As a trail runner in my now older age, I long to run through the quiet and peaceful woods, deep in thought and contemplation. One day it will happen!

My trip desires point towards Ireland, Africa and Japan. Someday my passport will see stamps from those places!

Amy, I am going back in my mind. I remember shopping at the Shuls and getting warm bread. Slathering butter and pomegranate or fig jam. The bread was so warm the jam would run down our arms. So delicious. Along with that all the smells from the other vendors in the Shul. It is heavenly.

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11080 comments Oh, this is so nice to read on this cold cold day. It's not as cold as Minnesota (where I lived as a child), but it's cold enough that they closed all the schools, and *gasp* the library.

So many places I'd love to visit. Right now it's very pretty outside, and warm and toasty inside, so I'm fine right here. Though I am really craving some great art. I loved the Metropolitan Museum in New York City, and the d'Orsay in Paris.

Joanne, I hope you feel better soon! I have 3 seasons of Victoria on my DVR waiting. I haven't been watching TV much lately.

My husband was born in Northern Poland-Przemyśl a small town(also stunningly beautiful!) and we visited 3 times in the last 30 years. Mediterranean countries - and especially those around the Middle East -- have the best bread -- I'm remembering amazing bread in Turkey, Greece, Jordan, Egypt, and of course France. Bread truly is a staff of life because I'm now fantasizing as well over the seed studded rolls I'd buy in Stuttgart, Germany, when visiting my brother (he lived there for about a dozen years). Fortunately here in NYC there are excellent bread - and bagel - bakeries as well. But that's not the case through much of the US, unfortunately.

Speaking of bread... our former neighbor (who is from Iraq) gave us some fresh bread he got from an Iraqi market. It's a flat bread, like naan (or pita), but it's huge. Each piece is bigger than a plate, so we've just been pulling off pieces by hand. It's great with chili, turkey and gravy, and peanut butter. Hardly traditional uses.

message 49: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12931 comments Rachel, did you mean Shuk over Shul? One is a market, the other is a synagogue.... But you are far more native than I. Joanne, the reason I said think pomegranate and fig (over Vineyards) is that they are two of the seven species that grown in Israel. And the pomegranate in old lore, is how they were able to create ink for Torah Scrolls. Just a Wednesday Fun Fact.

Now visiting Japan would be amazing. We all either have to read books set there, or sneak in your luggage! How wonderful!

Tessa (FutureAuthor23) | 229 comments I DREAM of going to Japan! But the language barrier scares me. I always thought I would make it there by 2020 when the Olympics are there but unless I win the lottery I don't think that will be happening. :(
