I'm brand new to the world of D&D, and only started up a home brew campaign with some friends within the past year. I find myself fascinated with the lore, history, and mechanics of the game, even when I'm not actually playing.
Since I want to join a more formal and regular campaign in the near future, I've started casually reading through the Player's Handbook and am quickly making my way through Art and Arcana, a gorgeous D&D visual history which I highly recommend (if I'm going to fall into something hard, I have to know the roots first!).
Any other D&D lovers out there enjoy reading through these books, just to absorb as much lore as possible? I've already grabbed Volo's Guide to Monsters, and will be grabbing the general Monster Manual and Dungeon Master's Guide next.
Also, does anyone have specific campaign books to recommend that really shine? (5e preferable) And are there any D&D novels out there worth picking up?
