What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

this book was YA, fantasy, and slightly historical fiction? the plot surrounds a magical book that connects two different characters, a girl and boy. However, one character is set in the past while the other is in the future. This is really all i truly remember, but i vaguely remember the two main characters being able to communicate with one another through this book
