Kimberly Brown (guardianwolfkim) Another Saturday at the Library. Kim was putting away book, she was particularly detailed and very good at her job as she would go away and put out books that have been returned she would find those out of place and put them in the proper location take her long time but no one could complain because she did her job so well that made everyone have an easier Time finding things.

She never worked past dark, for many reasons. One she always had to pass by the cemetery on the way back to the orphanage and two there were certain parties that took place on a Saturday night that she wanted to make sure she avoided the start and end of. Unfortunately tonight was different, inventory. And the reluctant she stayed until past 12 AM. She had asked if she could stay the librarians were going to let her but the security would not have it because they weren’t allowed to leave as long as it was someone in the building. And they wanted to go home.

So after all was said and done it was nearly 2 AM and she began her trip back. Holding her breath and counting she moved past the cemetery and seeing the certain individuals she had not wanted to see going down the nearby alleyway to one of the many clubs that catered to people who are not exactly normal. Yes she was aware of this world underneath the other world she want to know part of it. She may have been weird and a freak, but these people scared her. She just needed to hide stay hidden, she got better at controlling these outburst she had so surely as she got older she would be able to keep improving, right?

However if to normal humans she was noticeable, and animals magnetic. What would she be like to those used to the more supernatural things in this world?

((I know his character folder isn't finished, but ah well... XD I'll get there at some point...))

Ash shouldered his way through the crowd, confused, blind mundanes yelling at one another to keep their hands to themselves.
If only they knew.
Shaking his head, he rounded the brick buildings, silver eyes flashing as they adjusted to the dimming light. He could smell the demon, see its human frame.
His shoulder blades itched with the urge to brake, shift, dislocate.
The pain would be welcome.
But he had been trained, forced, to forget his wings, his superior, experimental bloodline, and work like any other shadowhunter:
Dust and shadows.
The issue was, he still remembered Heaven, even if the memories were slowly fading.

message 15: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Brown (guardianwolfkim) Kim was dismayed when the path she needed was barred by a few individuals who she could tell at w glance were not only not human, but hunting. She was no warrior, she didn’t know how to really fight, some see defense classes at the Y, but little more than that.

She instinctively backed up. Bumping into someone that she politely mumbled an, “Excuse me...” to. Again she typically didn’t talk much, or very loud. However any attention of the person she just bumped into shifted as she saw that whatever the people were they had decided to make an animal their plaything. It was a cat, and though she loved dogs with a fierce passion she loved all animals. She also didn’t understand why people liked to be so hateful towards cats! She only realize this because she heard the poor creatures yowling from within a bag one of the men held.

With reckless abandon she marched forward to confront the individuals. “Hey!” The single word punctuated the night and drew the attention of all three of them in intently at her. “Leave the cat alone.” She demanded, eyes blazing angrily. Oh how she hated those who hurt the weak, defenseless and innocent. Such as animals.

((It’s fine! ^_^ and I just looked over my profile oh my gosh there are so many horrible typos in there! I’m gonna have to work on fixing that because that is just ridiculous half of it makes no sense! :-( ))

((XD SAME!!! I went through it last night and ended up changing reference images and a whole list of stuff, but not anything too important XD))

Ash stopped, rolling his eyes.
The demon had shifted, taking shape, calling forth a new, innocent form.
A cat.
Three men had stepped forward, simultaneously, and snatched the animal off of the streets, a bunch of stupid mundanes trying to act cool.
As if sin were cool now, as if it was okay to abuse the innocent.
However, the cat in the bag was not as innocent as it seemed. In fact, it could easily kill its captors, but how to convince them to let the poor thing go was a mystery.
Just as he was about to step forward, bargaining for the animal's release, a girl stepped forward, eyes alight, and told the strangers to let the cat be.
Not in those exact words, but...
Would they listen?
And, if they did, what would the girl do?
If she tried to take it home with her...
Ash sighed in annoyance.
"I believe you just stole my cat," he drawled, glaring at the vagabonds before him.
Not that this was the truth, but it wasn't a lie either.
After all, he had been designed to fight the powers of evil.
And, apparently, save demonic cats.

message 17: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Brown (guardianwolfkim) ((Right? And LOL ‘save demonic cats’ that’s priceless! XD))

Kim sensed the other person more than heard and had instinctively shifted her stance so that her back was no longer towards someone that was approaching. Though she was incredibly surprise that he was saying it was his cat, not that she was particularly looking for a pet it wasn’t like she could really afford to keep one or would be allowed anyway. She was still at the orphanage after all.

The three guys grinned evilly among themselves snickering. “Aww... someone lost their kitty cat?” The biggest one mocked.

The second one stepped forward. “And sending your girlfriend first? What a hero!” He emitted a high pitched cackle.

The third one stood in silence, behind the other two.

Kim wasn’t looking at the lackey, but the boss. “Tell them to let it go or I show everyone here just ‘what’ you are.” She glared daggers at the man.

The cloaked figure lifted his head, seemingly surprised. The magic was supposed to hide him from Shadow Hunters. So how had this girl figured it? He was supposed to appear as a mundane. Even the idiots with him didn’t know he wasn’t human.

((Do you want to be one or two of the three?))

((XD I love cats, but they can be so evil XD))

Ash raised an eyebrow.
"Tonting are we?" he inquired, sensing that something was off.
They weren't tormenting the cat, they were harboring it.
Demonic, somehow.
"Though, I must say," he continued, an amused expression slowly creeping across his features, his entire being ready for a fight, relaxing as the adrenaline kicked in rather than tensing up, "she's not my girlfriend."
He shot a glance at the girl.
"Not as intelligent as they may seem," he grinned, not sure how this mundane had the slightest idea what was going on, let alone how she could see him without having the sight, a unique trait in humans, something that was quite curious indeed.
Slowly, he reached for a Seraph Blade, held in leather straps across his back, his second hand finding a dagger within his leather jacket.
This could get interesting.
Far more interesting than the initial patrol he was supposed to be on anyway.

((We need more shadowhunters.... you want to make a character to be Ash's parabatai? That would be cool... ^-^ though if we add any others, they might as well just be supporting characters that don't need folders or whatever.... IDK anymore XD))

((Also, IDK... I don't think so XD you make much better villains XD))

message 19: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Brown (guardianwolfkim) Kim completely ignore the fact that they called her some random guy‘s girlfriend she primarily ignored everything he said that was until she gave a small gasp. How she knew it was coming was one of those things she couldn’t explain. “Look out!” She drove to the side pushing him out of the way just as a sword slang for the air sadly going straight through the Mundane next to the one holding the cat.

A voice in the distance cursed. “I almost had him!” Ash would recognize a very familiar voice. Someone who was a troublemaker who had it out for him, I was looking for a chance to stab him in the back.

The leader pulled the sword out of the now dead mundane. “Crow, you know how hard it is to find good mundane?” He lifted his head, then move to stand to his full height. He was a giant of a creature, coming off more like an ogre as he stood there looking down on the others. He grabbed the other Mundane by the back of the neck as he went to flee crushing it just of the power of his hand. “You owe me two!” He said as he grab the bag as he crouched despite his elongated limbs.

Crow laughed landing on top of a nearby car. “Where’s your sense of fun Grey? Besides, I’ve been following him all night with out him aware, but you got busted by the cute little thing there.” He laughed.

((Yeah I think we could make just kind of background characters to make it more for but not needing their own profiles or something LOL though Kim her self has the potential to be a shadow Hunter whether they realize it or not (-;

Haha, aww. ^_^))

((let me know if this doesn't work... XD))

Ash blinked in surprise, watching the sword fly through the air, not accustomed to being looked after.
How had he not sensed it?
In a flash, he had deemed the blade within his own hand Gabriel and hurled it in a clean, twisting arch, swinging like a helicopter blade, right for the leader's throat before twisting himself in Crow's direction, hurling the dagger at the boy's foot, not missing his mark, the blade digging into the metal at his assailant's feet, sparks flying as it made its mark.
"Care to try again then?" he questioned, beckoning, raising one eyebrow, "Unless your damned daddy dearest here has any objections."
He laughed, unable to help himself.
"Never took you as one for following others," he commented, shrugging lightly, eyes flashing like tempered metal, waiting for a fight.
Indeed, thing were getting far more interesting.
Silently, he kept an eye on the mundane, making sure no harm came to her there on the street. A death would spell catastrophe, and now she was a liability.
Great.

Kimberly Brown (guardianwolfkim) ((It’s fine! ^_^ ))

The demon he struck, dropped the cat and used his arm to block the blow. Severing his hand, but giving him the tome to back up. “Now that’s just rude.” He snarled. Hand healing itself slowly as he stood there.

Kim had just knew, like she knew a lot of things, but didn’t understand how. She slid to the side. Eyeing the one the stranger was not engaged in. She crouched low, against the sidewalk. As small of a target as possible. She wasn’t a warrior. And in truth was a bit freaked out at this young man, but she had seen crazier things. Then that bad feeling started again. She felt sick, nauseated. Her vision blurred. No! Not now! in an instant she saw in her mind, herself standing on a hill. Looking at a tall ancient castle in the distance. The wind felt good. There was a voice, calling to her from behind, but her eyes were focused below. The hilly landscape, full of green grass, but being trampled by an army of the most grotesque monster one could imagine.

The voice called again. She turned, it was the strange boy, the one she saw fighting those demons.

However the world around didn’t stop for this to happen.

Crow freed his feet. “And I wouldn’t have figured you for playing babysitter, but then. She does seem a bit special doesn’t she? I wonder what he would think of her?” His eyes glowed with malice. He had taken people before, to the dark one he didn’t dare say the name of. To taint and corrupt. Sometimes just torture for fun. He preferred taking girls. They were much more amusing, and he was rewarded if they were ‘special’ in any way.

The other one went for the girl, but hesitated before getting to close. A strange blue energy was around her, he didn’t like it. That energy scared him. He took a step back and away.

Ash chuckled, "I'm not babysitting," he replied, "I'm killing people and saving unfortunate mundanes, but if she's so special then I guess I'll be kidnapping as well."
He said this without delay, no preamble, no shame.
The truth was never something to be afraid of.
Movement in his peripheral caused him to listen, closely, ears perking slightly. He didn't need his eyes to tell him what was going on.
He had missed his mark, severed the demon's arm instead.
Served the creature right, trying not to go back where he belonged.
That arm wouldn't be back anytime soon...
Elegantly, as if in a sort of dance, Ash used the hood of the car beside him to vault into the air, landing on the street just in front of the girl who had been smart enough to curl up, making herself smaller, not dumb enough to run.
"Good," he though as he hit the ground in a crouch, activating yet another heavenly blade and plunging it toward the creature's chest, determined to send him back where he belonged, keeping an eye on Crow and the human girl, the space around them.
His wings were screaming at him, pushing against his shoulder blades with blinding force, but he wouldn't let them out.
He refused.
In turn, a sharp pain began to course through his veins, his whole body, the result of defying nature.
He ignored it.
Crow was next, the coward.
Likely, the boy would take flight, true to his calling, but you never knew. People could always surprise you.

message 25: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Brown (guardianwolfkim) The larger demon had been unable to avoid being stabbed into the chest. He was too stunned by the strange blue energy. He fell back dead.

While Crow, had moved from his spot leaving a sort of ‘husk’ behind. Intent on fooling the hunter of their kind. He was quickly behind the girl. Just as the blue energy faded. He went for her, to grab her. A small prize for his efforts. If he could grab her and go. Maybe even be allowed to play with this one.

Kim gasped as the vision, or whatever it was faded. Her eyes refocused slowly, the world of kilter, however. Even though she was no warrior, she was heavily ruled by instinct. As the ‘thing’ went for her, she slid her back to the concrete and delivered a kick to his chin, and despite him grabbing her ankle as he recoiled. She twisted in a way that startled the demon. Slipping from her shoe as well as kicking his arm. Skidding backwards towards the parked car. Grimacing, her ankle was hurt now. She could feel the warm blood from his claw like fingers, trickle down her now shoeless foot.

((Thanks XD I like him... he's quite sarcastic... Have you ever read The Iron Fey series? Crow reminds me of Puck XD Though Ash doesn't act much like Ash from TIF, that's where I got the name from... IDK... I'm just rambling now XD))

Ash smirked, pleased with his work, turning toward Crow, who hadn't moved a muscle.
Stupid move, but effective, the trickster.
Suddenly, there was a scuffle, a small amount of noise. Ash turned and flung a dagger, aiming for Crow's left shoulder, right where his heart would have been if he were human. It was an unlikely move, but it might slow him down just enough...
Not stopping to think any further, Ash ran for Kim, taking in the sight of her wounded ankle before scooping her off of the ground and lightly jumping onto the hood of a car, vaulting off to get just the right amount of leverage.
Without delay, his bones began to crack, to dislocate, making room for the ones buried deep beneath the surface, twisting until the skin split and a pair of ebony wings shot outward, flapping to gain altitude.
Once they were a safe distance away, out of range of projectile weapons, Ash turned his attention to the 'special' mundane, speaking in a clean, clipped tone.
"Are you alright?" he asked, hoping the scratches on her leg weren't laced with venom. That could end badly.
((I can't think of anything else, so it it's not very good, that is why XD))

message 28: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Brown (guardianwolfkim) ((Haha no I haven’t. Sounds interesting though! I just made crow up off the top of my head XD))

Crow gave a shout, falling back at the sudden pain. Then the pair were getting away and he could do nothing but retreat into the darkness, inform some of his ‘friends’ what had happened.

Kim felt funny, nauseous, dizzy, hot. It was a whirlwind before she understood what was happening. Wings! He has wings! Kim was entranced at the sight of the beautiful ebony wings. It was as if only then did she realize that he was caring her and they were flying. He startled her slightly with the question. “Yeah...” after all what did someone say to someone who pulled out giant swords, fight demons and could fly because he had wings? Her leg felt like it was on fire though. Ironically neither one of them would be aware but whatever venom or poison the demon had left on her meant to disable her and make her weak surely, was combating with her own system. Making her fever suddenly worse in the pain in her body intensify. Though the injury of her ankle which had been quite bloody before had already stopped bleeding though the gashes were still there.

After getting some rest her body will prepare the injury but fighting off the venom who knew how long that would take, or of it could fully succeed. She was struggling to remain conscious.

((No it’s great! ^_^ ))

((I highly recommend it... XD))

Ash raised an eyebrow. 'Yeah' never meant anything good.
Minutely, he could sense the fever running through her veins, the excess amount of heat.
"Great," he muttered, cursing silently as he scanned the ground below, looking for the institute, for a safe haven, a place to land.
A building loomed out of the dark, gathering his attention, and he angled toward it, folding his wings, plumitting quickly toward the asphalt.
Within seconds, he had burst through the front door, calling for medical assistance.
Somebody was bound to be home. After all, institutes were never left empty.

((Thnx! Though this isn't much better, but it's rushed so there's little to be done about it... XD))

message 30: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Brown (guardianwolfkim) ((I’ll have to check it out! ^_^))

Kim was moving in and out of focus, her consciousness swimming between awake and asleep. She gave a small gasp in pain, and tensed as he dove. Not used to flying, especially in the arms of a man! Already she had difficulty swallowing, if only she would have known sleeping would have actually helped, instead she fought passing out, terrified she wouldn’t wale up.

A young man rushed out, a shadow hunter, but the newest of their group. Youngest and most easily panicked. “What?!” He stoped seeing Ash, but he was holding a girl in his arms. “A mundane? You brought a mundane?” As far as he had been taught that wasn’t allowed right? Would Ash be getting in trouble, Again?

((It’s great! ^_^ you are too hard on yourself. So hope this is okay!))

((^-^))

"I didn't bring anything," Ash replied coldly, shouldering the child out of the way and continuing toward the ward, expecting to be followed.
"We're shadowhunters, not a pack of rabid werewolves," he continued, smirking, "though I do believe she's not just some stupid mundie. Crow certainly wanted her for something, and his doppelgangers were all the same..."
He dropped off as he set the girl upon one of the beds, listening to the silence of the room, sharply cut in two by an authoritative voice:
Charlotte.
"What is this?" she demanded, looking down her nose, not pleased at all, "I suggest you start talking, Zadkiel."
Ash grimace, momentarily, before turning to face the head of the institute, his expression now blank.
"What does it look like to you?" he asked stonily, raising an inquisitive brow, "I thought that you would have been able to sight a mundane by now, but, alas, I seem to have been sorely mistaken, do forgive me. However, I can hardly blame you for failing. Crow sunk his claws into her, so she smells. Terribly."
He wrinkled his nose for effect, not being entirely dramatic. The stench of demon was everywhere, though the girl was not entirely left to blame. Thick, black icor was dripping down Ash's gear, creating small, acidic puddles at his feet, burning holes in his skin where it touched.
He was going to need an iratze.
"Out," Charlotte stated simply, sounding tired and drained, hardly putting up a fight, pointing toward the door, "Now!"
It was a bit disappointing, obviously.
She hadn't even noticed...
"Your father can deal with you tomorrow, and the Clave will be notified. Again," she added quickly, just as he moved to walk away, "And I thought we had discussed your 'abilities' clearly, a long while ago. Hide them, now."
So she had noticed...
"I don't have parents," Ash clarified, refreshing her memory with words like icy water, before walking away, shutting the door behind him, folding his wings and forcing them to contract, for the bones to realign.
The pain was excruciating.
Ash smiled. Exactly what he had been looking for...
Perhaps that was a bit sadistic, but he didn't care. Pain was just weakness leaving the body after all.
"You still here?" he called out to the kid, having forgotten his presence for the moment.
Now he just wanted some company.

((this work?))

message 32: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Brown (guardianwolfkim) Terrence, or Terry as he preferred tp be called flinched ever so slightly at the way Ash spoke, scurrying after him. The ruddy young man looked back and forth between the matron and master of the institute, and one of it’s top warriors. He shrunk back and gladly left when Ash too was dismissed. He jumped at the question. “Y-yes. Are you alright? Your covered in blood.” Of course he knew it wasn’t his blood, but still...

—Medical Room—

While Kim continued slipping in and out of consciousness, had she been at home she probably would have just passed out, but around strange people and in places she didn’t know. She couldn’t allow herself to relax. They were different, she could sense it, see it, but she had never seen those like them.

“Where, am I?” Even in her fevered state she couldn’t restrain her curiosity. The boy had wings, a strange building. Weird feelings, odd energy.

((Oh yeah, brilliant! ^_^ ))

((YaY!!! XD))

"Fine," Ash answered gruffly, still thinking about what Charlotte had said before. He had expected more, wanted more destruction, more fire.
Charlotte had a heart of ice.
Ash was determined to make it melt, evaporate, and disappear completely.
There would be no "parents", no "love", none. Just like it was supposed to be.
"You reccon that'll leave a mark?" he inqired allowed, watching as icore dripped onto the carpet, leaving a small trail of singed material in his wake, smoking slightly.
He wasn't sure if he meant Charlotte or the blood...
Mabe both.
"What about you? You holding up?"
Honestly, he didn't know why he would ask, didn't know if Terr was still in rigorous training or not, but still...
Life as a shadowhunter could be tough.

***
Charlotte observed the girl before her with a chemical, appraising glance before moving forward with her stele to draw a series of iratzes on the girl's arm, only half certain that it would be safe to do so.
Finished, she stepped back and let out a sigh, answering breifly to the young girl's question, wiping a tear from her cheek, scolding herself silently for allowing her emotions to show.
What did it matter anyhow?
"The institute," she stated, smiling through her daze, putting as much care into the words as possible, "I'm Charlotte, and that would have been Ash and Terry, two of our charges. I'll go make you some tea."
Abruptly, she too left the room, shaking slightly as she went.
When would he ever learn...
It didn't matter.
The mess he had made would be cleaned up.
It would just take a cup of boiled holy water and a bag of tea leaves.
Simple.
"Perhaps it was time he learned to clean up for himself," Charlotte thought as she walked through the halls, rolling her eyes at the trail of smoke and demon blood that had been left behind by a boy with angel wings.
A conundrum of its own.

message 34: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Brown (guardianwolfkim) Terry of course were still new to the interactions between the two and he mostly stuck to the strategy to stay out of the way as much as possible and stay on their good sides. So he had this inherent knack for just lingering around and hearing things. It was a bit ironic that he was a shadow Hunter because he was good at sticking to the shadows and sneaking about wasn’t that he was intentionally trying to spy but he just seem to come by it naturally he was good at sort of blending in.

“I mean maybe not if you take care of it quick.“ He spoke towards the leaving a mark comment. The Shadowhunters were obviously no stranger to injuries of this sort and he couldn’t believe he wasn’t doing something about it but it been him he would’ve sent is dropping off the injured Mundane went straight to get cleaned up. Not chitchatting with a lower rookie like him. “So she’s really not a mundane? How do you know?” A part of him is doubtful but another part of him is interested. Always ready to learn more. I just question concerning how he was doing he gave a slight grimacing smile hopefully not seen since he was standing behind him. “Um... fine!” He shouldn’t of hesitated he should’ve just said that right off the bat. He was still struggling with adapting to this life. And he seem like he just kept screwing up a lot or not meeting expectations.

—-

Kim I was beyond confused, institute to her meant school. She was in a school? She couldn’t seem to find a way to verbalize it though her confusion was probably evident in her facial expression. Her vision swim in and out of focus making it difficult for her to understand what was going on around her and then the woman was gone. She lifted her arm, but was too weary to speak. Her sore arm fell limp at her side. My ankle... it’s claws... what... my arm, did she... do? her thoughts were disjointed and at last she quit fighting the darkness and light and consciousness take her.

What Charlotte would see when she returned would depend on how long she took. Within 15 minutes any visible injuries would look to be gone, that didn’t help the poison in her veins however her body was growing more feverish by the second, however as she tossed in her sleep. Should begin to sweat profusely, this was her body‘s way of getting rid of the poison for us she sweat the droplets appeared black as ink. Yet they didn’t stain her skin but rolled off as if simply water. Her body was purging it’s perceived infection. In true she had never been sick before. She just figured she was one of those lucky people who just didn’t get sick, it was a shame she didn’t know that when she slapped her body would repair it self like this.

Ash chuckled as Terry attempted at conversation, hesitant and awkward in the way that only a child could be.
"I'll clean the floor later," he said, shrugging as he veered around a corner, stopping in front of a thick oak-wood door, hand already on the knob.
"She's different, trust me," Ash mumbled, shrugging his shoulders once again, running a hand through his hair, "demons don't just attack innocent mundanes and try to kidnap them. Especially not Crow, whatever he classifies himself as. Sick ba-"
He dropped off, shaking his head. He had always despised curse words, even if he did find them handy for sarcastic remarks and exasperated comments; especially when hunting demons.
"You get my point," he said instead, and patted the kid on the shoulder before heading into his room for the night, closing the door behind him.
He hadn't commented on Terry's training, had let the subject slide. The kid would get there in his own time, or would die on the battlefield: a common solution to all shadowhunting problems.
Everyone died young.
Subconsciously, Ash turned the lock on his bedroom door, ripping off his gear and heading straight for the shower. Finished, he toweled himself dry and redressed in fresh clothes, purposefully overlooking the option of wearing a shirt. Sitting on the edge of his bed, he began drawing runes across his skin, the slight burning sensation a relief after such a long day. Task completed, he fetched his trashed gear from the floor, smirking at the shredded remnants of shirt and jacket; he would have to get a new issue tomorrow. For now, however, he tossed the garments in a metal trash bin and then flopped back onto his bed, face down, wings slowly unfurling from his back, a grotesque stretching of skin and bone that somehow ended in black feathers and only a little bit of blood, a couple of scars.
He sighed, finally content, one thought circling in his head as he drifted off to sleep:
Why was being different so wrong?
The problem was, that he didn't know, and sleep wouldn't come.
Agitated, he rose from bed and walked across the room, grabbing a small case at the foot of the bed and popping it open, retrieving the instrument within:
A violin.

Charlotte reappeared in the infirmary about twenty minutes later, a steaming mug clasped lightly in her hands, delicately balanced on a porcelain dish. Silently, she set the items on the bedside table next to the girl and glanced over her slight frame, noting the signs of health.
This girl was no mundane, she belonged in the institute.
Charlotte let out a breath of relief.
There would be no need for the Clave today. Not yet, anyway.
Slowly, carefully, she walked from the room, finding her own to rest within.

Kimberly Brown (guardianwolfkim) ((Oh wow! Ash is really awesome! ^_^ and you have a certain desire to have most of your characters play the violin don’t you? ;-) LOL))

Terry stood at the door long moment after having closed in his face. Unnecessarily rudely but abruptly, he exhaled slowly and one about caring out the remainder of his duties. He slept during the day not during the night, so he studied cleaned sharpened weapons trained and then decided to peek in on their guest.

However most of these chores already been done so he ended up in a sort of board fashion walking into the infirmary of sorts. As he walked over looking at her seeing a cold cup of tea at least what he presumed was tea. He looked at the girl in Astonishment. He wondered what made her different but no sign of runes, yet she was healed. Not a mark on her. She had been lifeless and pale when Ash brought her in, now there was a little color in her cheeks sort of pinkish tint. And though she was still somewhat pale there was more of a normal power to her complexion. Her breathing is even and she certainly didn’t seem to have a fever and that’s when he noticed it he took a step back staring in disbelief.

“What is that?” He didn’t have the guts to bother Charlette so he ran towards ashes room. Little afraid but he knocked nonetheless. “Ash! The girl, the non-mundane!” He hissed as loud as he would dare really afraid of waking up Charlotte. But what he had just seen, he had to tell someone!

((Thanks! ^-^ And, yes, I suppose I do... I've always wanted to learn how to play it, though I'm in the process of learning guitar and piano for now... starting basic. XD But Sherlock only played violin because that's what Sherlock does XD Ash does so because I thought it would be nice... also, he may be a multi-instrumentalist... idk XD))

Ash jumped, startled by the knock on his door, the instrument only half-raised. Sighing, he set it back in its place, walking languidly toward the door, folding his wings and slipping on a shirt as he did so, turning the knob with a frown.
"What is it, Terr?" he asked, raising an eyebrow, "has she suddenly sprouted eight legs and pinchers, twelve beady eyes, and decided to crawl on the ceiling?"
He was joking, but only slightly. Something about the way Terry spoke had the hairs on the back of his neck raising in alarm.
Something was wrong.

Kimberly Brown (guardianwolfkim) “I... I’ve never heard of it, its black... the residue. And...” Terry shook his head. “Just come look!” He rushed towards the infirmary however not checking to see if he was followed, but he stopped at the doorway. She was gone!

He slowly stepped inside, looking as if he expected a demon to jump out. However, even though she was gone the thing that he had wanted Ash to see was still there.

Black ooze clung to the sides of the bed, dripping off slowly, leaving a nasty looking puddle at the sides, but that wasn’t the weirdest thing. Almost in a perfect layout of her formerly resting form was what looked like ebony black ash. The place where her body had laid was drenched, yet there was the strange dusting of black ash making an almost perfect outline of where she had been. Only minutes ago.

Kim whom had woken from the frantic fleeting footsteps of Terry, jolted and quickly slid from the bed, only messing up the ash gathered at the feet/ankles. Not noticing it, because she was hurrying to leave the room she was in. Moving down a different hall than the one she could hear hushed voices, she swiftly sped towards a different location. Two thoughts, stuck on repeat. Wings... he had wings... and She said institute, a school or for crazy people? I need to get out of here.

Sadly she didn’t know where she was going, but on the plus side she was making good time getting there. She thought she heard footsteps down the hall and ducked into the nearest room. Peering through a crack, then backing up to realize it appeared to be either a large study or a small library. How ironic that a librarian found the library before anything else.

((Hehe makes sense. I love the violin too, I always wanted to learn so Kim usually plays it XD))

Ash blinked, following the boy down the hall to the infirmary, pausing in the entrance.
Indeed, it was like nothing he had seen before.
"By the angel," he found himself muttering, nearing the sheets, not sure what was upon them, lifting a small handful of, ironically, ash.
Slowly, he closed his hand around the substance, etching a rune onto the back of his fist, closing his eyes and waiting, hoping for an image.
"Aha!"
He said no more, simply hurrying toward the drawing room, hoping that he wasn't too late.
Slowly, he came to the door, placing a hand on the knob, twisting slowly, intruding inch by inch, centimeter by centimeter, not sure what he would find within.

((^-^ Nice. :) I'm also on a massive Umbrella Academy kick right now, and so yeah... Lots of violin...XD))

Kimberly Brown (guardianwolfkim) Terry stared dumbfounded. “Aha?” But all too quickly Ash was off like a shot. He frowned, but tried to run after him.

Kim flinched as the door opened slowly. She was trapped, true she really shouldn’t have ran, but given how she had been treated her whole life she was sure this would go badly. However the more the door opened the more anxiety surged and well, when she got too emotional, things happened.

So when he opened the door, an unfortunate repercussion would take place, anything electronic, lighting or gadgets would experience a violent power surge, some activating even of unplugged, some exploding, some doing both.

((I haven’t seen that het, but really want to!!))

Ash eased into the room slowly, defenseless.
Suddenly, he wished he had carried a witchlight. All of the lamps had gone out, the electric ones anyway, and had left the room in a state of impermeable darkness.
She had powers.
That wasn't normal. Not at all.
In fact, it almost made Ash want to laugh.
Charlotte was going to love hearing about this one. Terry could be the one to tell her. Ash would probably get strangled.
He grinned at the thought.
"You needn't be afraid," he breathed, hoping it was convincing enough, motioning for the boy behind him to run off and grab a witchlight.
The room was far too dark.
"We're not here to hurt you," he continued, inching ever farther into the room, walking as one would toward a startled deer, voice calm and reassuring. Hopefully, the whole situation wouldn't go up in flames...
"In fact, we're here to help. I assume you know my name by now, though I must say that your own is quite the shaded mystery. Would you care to shed some light on the subject?"
He couldn't help but throw some sort of humor to the statement. It was what he did best.
Carefully, he reached behind him and swung the door closed, slowly, trapping out the light, watching the witchlight sconces on the walls glow slightly brighter, but still not bright enough.
"You know, we have a real library. This is just the study. If you want books, I could take you there instead. This, mostly, is just rules and laws."
Ash shrugged, making light conversation, etching a quick night vision rune onto the inside of his forearm, not able to stand the awkward lighting any longer.
Things were either pitch dark or well lit.
In between made it hard to focus.
"Come along then?" he inquired, and held out his hand in a sweeping, eighteen-hundreds style gesture, a promised guide through the institute's maze of corridors.
Hopefully, all would end well.

((I highly recommend it. Seriously, it was SO good... I might have stayed up for 24 hours just to watch it all on Netflix XD Then I slept for the rest of the day XD Plus, the guy who plays Simon in the Mortal Instruments movie plays Klaus, which is hilarious... I din't recognize him at first... XD))

Kimberly Brown (guardianwolfkim) Kim backed up, only slightly startled by the explosion in of that annoying power of hers. Strangely she saw well in the dark, always had. It was always scary, at least when she was alone and in the open, yet when isolated, she liked the dark, preferred it. She could tell he was moving closer, instinctively she backed up again, but bumped the desk in process. “Ash...” She answered when he stated that she knew his name. The voice, the young man, who... helped her. “Kim... Kimberly...” she swallowed hard. “I was looking for the exit. I’ll be in trouble if I don’t get back soon.” The orphanage, oh good Lord she would seriously be punished this time!

Probably no dinner for a week, and she would have to sleep in the attic again. She shivered at the prospect. They knew she was terrified of bugs. The heartless people just didn’t care. No matter how much the last time traumatized her, she screamed and cried. They laughed. She felt dizzy suddenly, having to catch herself on the desk. What... why do I feel so... weak? She knew she had been hurt but, it couldn’t have been that bad. She was already walking on the ankle after all.

Terry raced around a corner, nearly slipping as he did, but managed to keep traction without slowing in the slightest to fetch the witch light.

Ash nodded at the pronunciation of his nickname, still holding out one reassuring hand, like a man trying to prevent a tower induced suicide.
"Well then, Kimberly, you are definitely in the wrong place," he stated matter-of-factly, looking at the room around them, wishing there was more light, "but I don't think you'll be needing an exit. Mundanes don't even know this place exists; you're safe. However, if you wish to leave you may. We cannot hold you hostage."
He wasn't sure what else to say. Usually, he was a bit more conversational, but now he had run out of words.
Where was Charlotte when you needed her?
Likely:
Asleep.

message 44: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Brown (guardianwolfkim) Kim bit the inside of her mouth. She was trapped in this room with no exit, so what he said appeared true, not to mention she had not been harmed. “You spoke of kidnapping earlier...” She was referring his comment to the demon, Crow? He probably shouldn’t have said that, what girl wouldn’t be reluctant. “What... is a Mundane?” She narrowed her eyes, making no movement to come closer. Anyone would be skeptical as it was, but given where she grew up? She didn’t let people touch her. A precaution. “And what is this place? An institute?” She wanted answers before she was doing anything or going anywhere!

Terry finally had a witch light and was on his way back. At last he reached the door, still at full sprint returning and crashing through. Probably after some of her questions had been answer, if not all. “I got it!” He held the witch light for Ash to take. Eager to please and prove himself as always.

Ash sighed, letting his hand fall to his side.
The convict had taken the plumet.
Luckily, the savior had wings.
"A sarcastic remark," he explained, shrugging his shoulders, "I have a knack for that, but only slightly."
He grinned, a white flash of teeth in the dark.
"But that happens to be quite irrelevant. You had to be brought here. You were attacked by a demon, which gave cause for belief of supernatural involvement. Under law, my actions were required. Even if you were just a mundane, a normal human being, which I now know you are not. So now you are here, in 'this place', otherwise known as 'the Chicago Institute'. It is not an institution of the normal sort, however. It is a shelter, rather, for nephilim, shadowhunters, like..."
He would have said 'myself', but that wasn't entirely accurate.
Just at that moment, Terry burst through the door, whitchlight in hand.
"Like Terry here," Ash concluded, plucking the glowing light from the boy's hand, a glowing star. Rolling into his palm, it burst into a blue flame, a sea-foam sun.
He closed his fingers over the object, casting oblong shadows along the walls.
"If you will, the library has a book to explain it all: The Codex. It's quite a helpful little object."
He dropped off.
The girl was a startled deer.
Her captors were hunters.
But not like she thought. They hunted shadows, not game. They were there to defend her.
The convict had taken the plummet.
The savior watched him fall.
Perhaps it was too late.

Kimberly Brown (guardianwolfkim) Kim jumped, ver much like the frightened deer. She could tell even int he darkness, none of them were ‘normal’, but she didn’t feel evil from them. She stared at the beautiful light, looking now to the two men who stood with her. He said the word, a word he had only ever heard in the bible. In one verse, just one. ‘ Nephilim’. Curiosity, hunger for knowledge, in truth that was why she worked in a library. The though occurred to her. They might have books she couldn’t find elsewhere.

“Lead the way.” She wasn’t moving closer until he did. Caution surely could be respected. Yet she was going to follow, that was progress. It may have been to late for the boy with wings to catch her, but it appeared she had some of her own to spread.

((Oh my goodness, I love your poetic prowess! I wish I could craft analogies as beautiful as yours <3 ))

((Aw! Thanks! ^-^ I enjoy your poetic ways as well. :) It takes me a very long time to think of the things I want to compare and how to make them sound extraordinary, rather than just everyday objects... I just really like poetry XD))

"Very well," Ash said, turning toward the door abruptly, all sharp angles and business-like demeanor. The door was reopened, the light from the corridor outside blinding after the dim room lit by the blazing, steady glow of the witchlight, and he walked straight through it, never looking back.
Either they followed or they didn't; it made little difference to him.
Though, if he were honest with himself (which he never was) he would admit that he constantly had an eye on Terry, the way one always kept an eye on a younger sibling. True, he may have lost his parents, and, true, he may not need Charlotte or her ridiculous husband to fill their place, but he had gained a sibling of sorts upon arriving at the institute. Not one hair on Terry's head would be harmed without the offender going through Ash first.
This he knew but never admitted to.
He was, indeed, quite dishonest with himself.
But, in all, he had seen Kim's power, seen what could happen when even the slightest amount of strong emotion altered her mood, and that was danger in its purest form. What was dangerous was to be watched. Plain and simple.
Outwardly, however, he seemed to simply walk away, never thinking twice about the people behind him. Just like always.
He turned left, right, left, left, and then right again, coming to an eventual halt at the base of a massive set of oak and mahogany doors; quite the largest and most dramatic pair in the institute, other than the front doors. With great preamble, he lay one palm on the left hand door and gave a heavy shove, pushing both doors open through the simple mechanics of wooden plaiting.
"Ladies and gentlemen," he announced, giving a slight bow, "welcome to the world's largest library. Home to three times as many books as the mundane Library of Congress, and a crap-ton of banned books."
'A crap-ton' was a bit of an understatement, but that would have ruined the mood.
Besides, they were here for one book and one book alone.
And Ash knew exactly where to find it, even if there was no evident order to the shelves. Terry probably did too.
The Codex was standard issue.
"Right this way," he announced, beckoning, and walked ever deeper into the cavern of books, home to a different sort of monster:
Books, words, and a whole lot of pages.

Kimberly Brown (guardianwolfkim) ((It shows! ^_^ the careful crafting is artistic!))

Kim waited, lingered until the other boy, was on Ash’s heels. she followed at a slight distance, but soon she closed the gap significantly. She watched in astonishment as he so easily moved the massive doors, but that shock was nothing compared to her reaction of the Library. Eyes wide, a sparkle of excitement rippling through her. So many books, so much knowledge and history. Until he spoke again she forgot why they were there, and though she followed it was distractedly. Her answers, everything... it might be in this place.

Terry stayed back and out of the way, but never far from Ash, in his mind his job was to do ‘whatever’ was necessary to protect the Institution and it’s residents, serving them as best he could in the process. This girl, was scary to him, but worse yet he didn’t get to ask what Ash meant earlier when he said ‘Aha!’ Aha, what?

((Thanks! ^-^))

Ash walked along the massive circular main floor, scanning the shelves before disappearing up a flight of wrought iron stairs, following their spiral up and up and up. Landing after landing passed, lined with books, before he finally had found what he was looking for.
Top floor, fifth landing, far side, shelf 23, second row from the bottom shelf, 9 books over, and there it lay, its ancient, well worn spine sticking out slightly, the small span of shelving beneath it worn from repetitive use, the motion of a single book being slid in and out of place:
The Shadowhunter's Codex.
"And there she be," he noted happily, plucking the book from its resting place with careful fingers, blowing dust off of the cover for good measure.
Turning, he held the book out for Kim to take.
"Be careful with it," he mused, noting the way she looked about herself with wonder.
Only a true reader looked upon books in such a way, as if they were diamonds.
To Ash, they were, at times, so much more.
"This one's been around for a while."

Kimberly Brown (guardianwolfkim) Ever since she was a child she had a hunger for knowledge but also a desire to see other worlds experience adventures needless to say books filled both of those hungers quite nicely. She could be quite the daydreamer at times it was astonishing just how much effort it would take to get to this specific book if it was so popular and read so much why didn’t they keep it somewhere on the first floor?

Her reluctance they’re not completely gone seem to have a bit away quite significantly as if a place of this many books put her in a comfort zone. Her tension snapped back to him when he spoke and held out the book she looked at it hesitating, not because she was afraid of him with the book. More analyzing how to properly take it without damaging it, because as he said it did seem quite old she careful he took the book as of dealing with something that could shatter if the wrong movement was made.

Instinctively she hugged the book against her self looking for a place to lay it down so she could read. “Is there a specific section?” She honestly didn’t care about the answer, she could start from the beginning, she didn’t understand what this book was exactly but a part of her could sense that it was special.
