Jaycee Singleton Let me first start off by saying, I strongly recommend this amazing book. A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’ Engle is one of those books that you struggle to put down. In fact, I read this book all in one day. I am now excited to go watch the movie. I have high hopes for it. However, the books and movies are usually not in alignment.
This novel is about a young girl whose father has been experimenting with time travel her whole life. One night however, he disappears, and it is now up to the young girl to find him. This young girl, Meg, who is the main character, is a very smart and determined young lady. While Meg, her friend Calvin, and little brother Charles, go after their father, they must endure all that space travel has to throw at them. Will they be able to find her father? What will they go through in the time in between? These are all answered by the final pages.
While this book is considered science fiction, it deals with religious beliefs and the messages that underlie. As the strong group of children battle through time and space, they hit a point in time where their Christian faith is tested. God’s power and love shows them the other side as they explore with multiple dimensions in their world.
Science has definitely modernized, as books like these become documentaries. The discoveries of space travel and space exploration has become a common topic today. Especially for young adults, this book is a great look into the world of science with an unforgettable meaning.
