They Needed to Die.

Sallot Leon is a thief, and a good one at that. But gender fluid Sal wants nothing more than to escape the drudgery of life as a highway robber and get closer to the upper-class—and the nobles who destroyed their home.

When Sal steals a flyer for an audition to become a member of The Left Hand—the Queen’s personal assassins, named after the rings she wears—Sal jumps at the chance to infiltrate the court and get revenge.

But the audition is a fight to the death filled with clever circus acrobats, lethal apothecaries, and vicious ex-soldiers. A childhood as a common criminal hardly prepared Sal for the trials. And as Sal succeeds in the competition, and wins the heart of Elise, an intriguing scribe at court, they start to dream of a new life and a different future, but one that Sal can have only if they survive.

25% (view spoiler)[ I like Sal, they have spunk, tho this was definitely a leap from being a thief. Seems like Sal will have a lot of work to do. I love that Sal has to deal with the Lady she stole from. I wonder if something will happen between these two. (hide spoiler)]

50% (view spoiler)[ These trials are pretty crazy, and I can't believe so many people died the first night. I love how Sal has decided to try and flirt with Elise, this is going to be adorable. I wonder how the pact between 2, 3, and 4 will be broken they seem pretty tight (hide spoiler)]

75% (view spoiler)[ Okay so I wish we had more information about these shadows and what magic was in this world. All we really know is that it is gone and someone killed 3 to make it look like the shadows. Then there was the whole debacle with 4 framing Sal for killing 6 which she didn't but she was busy killing Sevenin(?) or whatever his name was. I loved how she set up that whole situation to get 4 to confess. I was sad that he died tho (hide spoiler)]

Finished (view spoiler)[ That final test was genius on the Left Hand's part. But I loved how Sal pulled one over on them to get rid of that other criminal. The ending was a little confusing with Elise, her father, 5 and Ruby. I was also confused as to how Sal was alive since she was thrown out a window but I'm not gonna push it. (hide spoiler)]

I requested this one from our Link+ program. Hopefully I will have it by the 17th.

I have my book now. Is anyone still reading it? I haven't started yet.

I had to turn in my book and it's now within my library sister system, so I should have it soon. Is it too late to consider it a buddy read?

I have held off on this book to see if I have a buddy to read it with or not. I am going to go ahead and read it since I haven't gotten a response since my October post. LOL I'll add my thoughts but if this won't count as a BR, please let me know. Thanks.

Ch. 17 (view spoiler)[ I wonder what Sal is going to see now that they've looked up in the forest. Can't imagine it's anything good. The training shit is so rough and I do not envy anyone. I love the competition aspect and seeing how Sal and Maud interact. Then Elisa!! Ahh i am so hype to see these tutoring lessons. (hide spoiler)]

I wish we got more about what the shadows are and how they're controlled cause I'm still pretty confused about all that, but I absolutely loved the competition and seeing Sal succeed.
