Anita Pomerantz | 9283 comments Please vote for the tag you would most like to read for March at the following link:

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/SZGH7D9

You may click on the answer choices in the survey to see a listing of books that fit each tag.

Remember, you may cast up to a total of 10 participation points for your choice. Everyone gets one vote for free so please vote even if you don't have any participation points!

You can see how many participation points you currently have in the spreadsheet below.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

Happy voting! Please cast your votes by 12 pm EST on 2/21.

Note: If no one choice receives more than 50% of the vote, people who chose the least popular choice will be asked to recast their votes for one of the remaining two options.

Hayjay315 | 465 comments Thrilled with the choices for this month! I'm definitely pulling for one category over the others but can find something no matter what ends up winning.

message 3: by Robin (new)

Robin A Was pretty easy vote just because the one I voted for had a least a half dozen on my TBR list and I didn't even look through the whole page.

message 4: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15542 comments Super easy choice as I already have several planned reads for 2 of the 3 options, all filling various challenges, and the other is no problem either.

message 5: by Joanne (new)

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12582 comments Went with the one I have most of on my TBR-another draw was that almost half my "36" are on that list-maybe I will get lucky and have a "double whammy" month!

message 6: by Booknblues (new)

Booknblues | 12087 comments Wow! I have to say that one category surprised me with the top choices listed. They were not at all what I was expecting.

I thought it was going to be a hard choice for me, but it was relatively easy.

I do love the 15th of the month, simply because the three choices are revealed and I am able to vote.

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

Voted, and threw a LOT of points towards it as I don't think it will be the popular choice!

message 8: by KateNZ (new)

KateNZ | 4100 comments Momentary panic: “No, no - it can’t be March yet - I’m swamped with work I have to finish in February.” Pause. Calendar check. Oh yeah. Voted.

message 9: by NancyJ (last edited Feb 15, 2019 10:33AM) (new)

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11077 comments They are all great options! I love discovering new authors, and love the classics. English lit would help me the most with my GAR and Classics challenges. I've been craving a little Jane Austen lately.

College is the most challenging tag, but it could be interesting. A Ladder to the Sky, Still Alice, The Secret History, and Educated would all fit. It also overlaps with English Lit. It looks like some people used this tag for books they read in college, and some are books about college, students, or professors. I spent more than half my life in college settings, so I would enjoy hunting for books about professors, students, college politics, teaching. I suppose it could also include books on how to get into college, mysteries involving college, college sports, etc.

message 10: by Anita (new)

Anita Pomerantz | 9283 comments Thank you, Nancy - - yes, I agree that the college tag is used a lot of different ways, but my interpretation would be "set at a college" and/or about college things.

Here are some additional possibilities:

message 11: by Anita (new)

Anita Pomerantz | 9283 comments Hey everyone,

Just a REMINDER - - the max number of points you may use for voting is TEN. (Unless you are one of the very few who won a special one time chance to use more in one of our games/activities.) But, I see people are casting many more votes, and just know that I will only count 10 and that only 10 will be removed from your total.

message 12: by Rachel N. (new)

Rachel N. | 2242 comments I could easily find something for any of the three choices so I voted for the one with the most titles on my TBR.

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

Oops that's probably me lol! Ok, happy with 10!

Sorry Anita, I thought I could use my points from Jolene's challenge-I misread the intention of being able to use more then 10

I love how everyone outed themselves, lol! No worries . . .just wanted to let you know what was happening.

I don't think we were allowing more than 10 points to be used from JoLene's challenge, but I swear sometimes I'm the confused one, so I'll be sure to double check what we said!

Thanks Anita. I don't know what I was thinking. I'm retired, so it's time to forget about college. I should have looked at the debut list first. Those options are so much more exciting to me. I'll always read English lit, but I could use a boost of youth right now.

message 17: by Nicole R (new)

Nicole R (drnicoler) | 8088 comments So many great options for each of these! NancyJ, great thought about reading Educated if the tag is college—I really like that!

message 18: by Joi (new)

Joi (missjoious) | 3970 comments Lots of options for all three!

I actually didn't vote for college (went with the most matches to my TBR), but I secretly hope college wins, and everyone reads The Secret History. One of my favorite books ever.

message 19: by Hebah (new)

Hebah (quietdissident) | 675 comments Hmm. Interesting mixture of topics. I had a definite favorite, but I don't think I'll mind any of them winning.

message 20: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12930 comments If it turns out to be college, I have two fabulous suggestions of books that I thought were wonderful but we’re completely overlooked. And they would be great choices. For myself, I just need to have a chance to sit down and do some research. You guys know me this year. I’m all about the TBR Trim. I am not pushing myself outside of any borders, in hopes of finally doing a serious slash. I have the horizons challenge for pushing my borders. Everything else is going to be in service of my 2019 mission to trim. So I probably won’t be voting for English literature. One of the other two.

message 21: by Amy N. (new)

Amy N. | 256 comments I didn't let myself think about it too hard. I'll be able to find something in any of these tags.

message 22: by Nicole R (new)

Nicole R (drnicoler) | 8088 comments If it is English literature then perhaps it is finally time to reread The Once and Future King!?!

Oh, that would work there? Not my vote(my vote rarely wins anyhow)-but that one is on shelf getting dusty!

We are an honest group-and obviously one with strong opinions😊

message 25: by NancyJ (new)

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11077 comments Did anyone notices that the English lit tag has quite a few books that were NOT written in English? War and Peace (Russian) and One Hundred Years of Solitude (Columbian/S American) were the first to stand out for me. They were translated into English afterwards.

There were also a few YA surprises: Twilight and Hunger Games.

Perhaps fans said -I read them in English, and they're books. Good 'nuff.

That one caught my eye too.

I spotted quite a few that would fit two or even three of the tags, so I'll be fine no matter what.

message 27: by Barbara M (new)

Barbara M (barbara-m) | 2597 comments I voted! I actually love discovering new authors. Guess which category I chose!

message 28: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12930 comments Voted! Seriously excited for my choice! I really hope it wins. Threw some punch at it.

message 29: by Theresa (last edited Feb 15, 2019 02:32PM) (new)

Theresa | 15542 comments Should college end up being the choice, and I don't actually think it would, I think it would be fun to pull reading for some course requirements, or from recommended reading lists at local colleges and universities. I of course have an advantage in this - I live in NYC and can wander into the campus bookstores and see the lists of books for courses without a problem. I also know several professors...and can always ask them for curriculum lists. But I'm wondering if as an alum of a college or university, you can go online and access curriculum???

That would make 'college' a very interesting reading month.

message 30: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15542 comments Now 'debut' happens to be one of the Pop Sugar 2019 prompts, and there is a GR groups with a very long discussion thread for 'debuts'. I was rather surprised at just how many books I have on my TBR list and in the piles at home which are 'debuts'.

Pretty sure you can-last year in my other group we had to read a "required summer reading" for incoming freshmen-can't remember from where tho

Me too and quite a few on my "36"

I know Gettysburg College has a required summer reading book for all incoming freshman every year. Americanah was the selection a couple of years ago.

And to Amy's point about wanting a topic that advances her goal of trimming her TBR (and I have a similar goal), I strongly suspect that any number of books on any of our TBRs will show up on a course syllabus or recommended reading list at some college some where.

Don't we all get one "free" vote ... so you'd only be subtracting a maximum of 9 points from our totals if we cast the maximum 10 votes. Or do I have that wrong (probably).

message 36: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12930 comments Trim Trim Trim!

message 37: by Anita (new)

Anita Pomerantz | 9283 comments That is exactly correct, BC.

message 38: by LibraryCin (last edited Feb 15, 2019 07:20PM) (new)

LibraryCin | 11696 comments As usual (at least most of the time), I am hoping for the narrowest of the choices. :-) And really, really hoping against the broadest - it's way too broad!

message 39: by LibraryCin (new)

LibraryCin | 11696 comments Anita wrote: "Thank you, Nancy - - yes, I agree that the college tag is used a lot of different ways, but my interpretation would be "set at a college" and/or about college things...."

Agreed! That would be my interpretation, as well. I would also add that I might include books about college students where school plays a significant part in the book or in the students' life in some way.

message 40: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12930 comments Yes, a University setting....

message 41: by Magdalena (new)

Magdalena | 414 comments I had a hard time deciding this month, any of the choices would work for me though. I think what I ended up voting for probably won't win.

message 42: by Susie (new)

Susie Great choices!

message 43: by Critterbee❇ (new)

Critterbee❇ (critterbee) | 418 comments Ah I would prefer not to read one of the choices, but cannot choose between the other two!

message 44: by Karin (last edited Feb 16, 2019 12:56PM) (new)

Karin | 9227 comments None of these stretches me in any way, so I chose the one where I already have a book here. All good choices, though!

I majored in biology and was never a freshman (we don't do that year in Quebec, university for us is only three years), so does that mean I'd have to read The Origin of Species again? XD

It might, but it might end up looking a lot like the English lit list. Unless you want to read a textbook or a non-fiction book from another field. Years ago there was a popular supplemental book recommended in MBA classes, called The Goal. It was about a production manager trying to get rid of bottlenecks and save his marriage at the same time. It wasn't bad.

Meli (melihooker) | 4165 comments How do I have a negative point?? 🤣😂 I had 1 action-adventure read and trim, so should be 4 points right?

message 48: by DianeMP (new)

DianeMP | 534 comments Voted. Three good choices. I'll be able to find something to read regardless of which one is chosen.
