Nasty PI, me for I posted 18th. but w/time spent searching, I hate to misplace my nom list and have to start again. Anyway, I found some new; some not so-- Whittled it down to three and I won't look further lest I find more and more and--

Into the Night (Gemma Woodstock, #2) by Sarah Bailey Not necessarily cozy but awesome synop and rating.

A Study in Scarlet Women (Lady Sherlock, #1) by Sherry Thomas A lady Sherlock-type.

Leslie Meiers St. Patrick St. Patrick's Day Murder (A Lucy Stone Mystery, #14) by Leslie Meier

Tons of good stuff out there. This is a tough task but we PI's are up to the challenge.

Both Study in Scarlet Women and St. Patrick's Day are available from my library, so I vote for either of those. I'm not much into the Into the Night sort of book.

PugMom (nicoleg76) | 2014 comments I found a few as well as a novella. I’ll check them out when I can hop on my computer.

OMG...I said no more and then-- If not for March, maybe for your own reading pleasure. Mark, the Palace is a movie theater where old time movies are or were played. Up your dark and stormy alley? I want in on this one. ;-)

Murder At The Palace by Margaret Dumas

Séances are for Suckers (Eleanor Wilde Mystery #1) by Tamara Berry

message 9: by Nicole (new)

Nicole (nicolevickers) | 1814 comments Okay, not to throw a wrench in the works but if we're going theme we could add Mardi Gras to the list! ;-)

The Palace book looks interesting. I read Seances are for Suckers and it wasn't as exciting as I thought it would be.

PugMom (nicoleg76) | 2014 comments This one is a shorty! I've read a few in this series and also listened to some audiobooks. Corned Beef and Casualties (A Tourist Trap Mystery, #10) by Lynn Cahoon

Can it be read as a standalone?

message 13: by PugMom (new)

Okay, I've got my choices: Murder At the Palace for full length mystery and Corned Beef for a short near March's end.

If we'd have selection nailed down by Feb. 23rd. and get book by say 27th.-28th., we could start a few days early and fit short near end of March. So long it doesn't interfere w/Feb. read.

Above is just a suggestion. Your ideas, welcomed.

Nicole (nicolevickers) | 1814 comments I'm going to abstain from nominating and will go along with whatever is chosen. :-)

I'd like the Murder at the Palace, but it is not currently available in my library and $5.00 on Kindle. If we go that way, I'll put in a request on hold at the library and spring for the $5, if we all decide. The corned beef one is $15, so that is out for me. On the other hand, the Lady Sherlock is still tops for me.

message 20: by PugMom (new)

PugMom (nicoleg76) | 2014 comments I can't get Palace at the library either. I'm ok with the Sherlock book!
I did find another short book that I must have gotten free at some point but it's only 99c on Kindle Pushing Up Daisies (Tea Shop Cozy Mystery Book 1) by Katherine Hayton

message 21: by Tina (new)

Tina (tinacz) | 6103 comments Mod
If Murder At/Palace is a task right now, maybe we can see it for April? May be in wider circulation by then. Noms still open for March if so inclined. I'm good with viewing more. If no, Lady Sherlock will work for me as well.

On shorts, Pushing Up Daisies sounds doable...if we decide on a short for late-March. Loosely conducted tally lol. But if anyone wants to call it for March, take it away. I'm good with any of the above. It's all good, PI's!

I like sponge candy, and as far as I know, it is pretty regional. My preference with chocolate, thought, in chocolate mint. Oh, and milk chocolate caramel. Oh, and chocolate coated toffee. Oh, and, well, never mind, there is a lot!

LOL All the above! See's makes a great toffee. Ever try it? And yeah, Sponge is regional, Mark, as it doesn't fare well in hotter climes. I understand they don't make it during summer months but that could be rumor.

Antoinette's in WNY makes Charlie Chaplin and Hot Fudge sauce to die for. Home made whipped cream on their sundaes.

Tina: There was a See's store in two of our local malls, but they just closed before Christmas. Rats. I love their dark chocolate covered California Brittle/Toffee. I got a pound and a half before they closed!

Nicole (nicolevickers) | 1814 comments At the school where I work we have a family with the last name of See (no relation) who hands out boxes of the candy every year for Christmas. I don't think we have any pop-up stores here but they do usually sell it at Macy's during the holidays. :-)

Pghfan, we had a mall kiosk but it's gone. I'm pretty sure, one can get See's candy online. I like their butterscotch (wrapped) candies and toffee.

Hmm, I wonder if our Macy's sells See's, Nicole. Maybe since the mall ditched the kiosk, Macy's picked it up.

You noted only at Christmas but I was mulling if our Macy's picks up See's then. I rarely go to mall/Macy's; wasn't aware of them carrying See's at all. Spoiled with online. :-)

What I'm really sorry about is my inability to figure out the first few pages of Study In Scarlet Women. lol

The youngest Holmes would've been Sherlock, no? Mycroft his older brother. So, is Charlotte Holmes Sherlock's daughter and who the hell is Shrewsbury? From Conan Doyle's Holmes' series? Wow. I know we didn't officially start March title but I need to get past all this to even begin reading the book.

message 41: by PugMom (new)

PugMom (nicoleg76) | 2014 comments I haven’t gotten the book yet but after reading some reviews it seems like Charlotte IS Sherlock. Like, what Sherlock would be like if he was a woman. Sort of a retelling if the original. I have no idea if this is accurate but it’s what someone stated in a review.

Thanks for that, NicoleG. Just came from there and saw a few noted Charlotte Holmes was the real Sherlock but as she was female, she had to tell it as if she were male. Something like that. Also, a few of the one-stars say book is confusing so I guess I'm not alone. lol

Glad I didn't pay hard copy price. I still might get the cheaper download but a bit disappointed in lift off of story. I need to go back and reread the beginning.

Okay, I got myself into this, I need to follow through. If we're still on for Scarlet, I'll host etc. If everyone is ready by Feb. 28th., I'll start discussion.

Anyone here read the first opening pages? I understand the audio version is better than the hard copy. Of course, I don't do audio that often so I'm with the book. If you can make out the first few pages, let me know. lol

:-( I don't know yet, Nicole. Don't have my book. Not sure if I'll just e-copy it or get it from Ammy. B&N didn't have a copy when I went this weekend. So, don't know page count. Maybe we should hold off 'til March 1st? Is that okay with everyone? Been tied up w/a project.
