Shea | 11 comments Looking for recommendations on where to start next. Just finished "Alterworld" 7 book series. I can do stand alone books, but prefer at least a three book series. I've read "The Land", "Awaken Online", and a few others; please see my read book list. Thanks in advance for your time.

Very Respectfully,
Shea

You can also check other people's shelves in the group right?

Skallagrim | 10 comments "The Stork Tower" series by Tony Corden is my favorite. But Dakota Krout also writes quality litrpg series.
But it is difficult since taste varies a lot. You read and rated well quite a few books and series I chose not to read.

are all good series though I didn't double check to see if you'd read them yet.

Paulo (pvaz) I like them with a bit more substance then just the straight game mechanics and character listings.

This I think can hold up with any other entertaining literature. They are well writen with a good pace and balance between action and character developement.

- Awaken Online Series (my favorite overall)
- Gam3 (series)
- Ten Realms (early stages but I did enjoy the mechanics and the constant evolution by strife instead of the common luck we usually see in litRPG)

Daniel | 22 comments (shrugs) The Land by Aleron Kong? Can't get more mainstream than that.

message 9: by Shea (new)

Shea | 11 comments @Paulo, I also enjoyed Awaken Online Series, I'll look into Gam3 and Ten Realms.

@Daniel, That was the first book series of LitRPG that I read and knew were LitRPG. I enjoyed them and have hit LitRPG pretty hard since.

Very Respectfully,
Shea

Matthew | 20 comments I liked The Land: Founding, Death March, Catharsis, Life Reset and Office Wars: The Mailroom Clerk wasn't bad, but I got it for free. They all have bad editing, Life Reset being the worst. The Office Wars book is loosely a lit RPG they really don't hold too strong to the norm. If you are a table top fan the Critical Failures series is pretty funny, but after 7 books is getting a little dry, and the humor is starting to grind on me (there are only so many fart jokes, and racist Mississippi cop jokes I can handle). I would say my favorite is The Land out of all of the ones I have read. I started Valhalla Online and it seems alright. I looked at a previous post and found they had performed a comparison. We are at 87% on books we have both rated, so it is safe to say you will probably like Life reset.

It doesn't look like you read the other two Ascend Online novels. You might pick those up, they are fantastic!

Currently I am reading "Gamer for Life" and it's a pretty good series. It does have a harem and sex though, so if you're not into that then maybe not for you.

Otherwise Divine Dungeon is a good series too and it has four books currently.

I've read the other two Ascend Online novels and enjoyed them. I've been avoiding Divine Dungeon as I'm not sure how I'd like the book from the dungeon's point of view. Is the Gamer for Life the one by Daniel Schinhofen? As long as the harem/sex is within reason it won't bother me. The binding words one looks interesting as well. Thank you for the info.

Shea

The Divine Dungeon isn't just stuck in the Dungeon point of view. It splits time between the Dungeon and a human. I don't know if it's 50/50 but it's probably close to that.

Dakota Krout also has a loosely related series called the Completionist Chronicles (Ritualist is the first book) that is great. You don't necessarily need to, but I would start with the Devine Dungeon. I love them both.

Darren | 59 comments Scan on Daniel Black .. a bit harem but good short series. Dodge tank..is good to read..as is ten realms. If u need inspiration..read The Game is Life.

The Accidental Traveler series by Jamie Davis is an excellent three book series; its first book The Accidental Thief was funny and a good thrill at the same time.

It does become less of a litrpg in the second and third book

Kit | 1 comments Axillion99 is an okay standalone. Spinward -dreamstate is decent. Both scifi games if you want a change of pace.

I just downloaded it and thought I should share.

Shea | 11 comments Thanks everyone for all the input. I'm happy to discover that there's alot of content out there for me to devour. Was sad to find out the ten realms only is on book four at the moment. =0 lack of research ahh well; was hoping to go through all 10 of em in one shot.

Shea

Chuck McIntyre (jithrae) | 37 comments Yeah, just to echo this, I was also pretty skeptical of Divine Dungeon because of the dungeon perspective, but those books were a real joy. Truly Dakota Krout is my latest favorite author. Strongly recommend everything he's written, even the side quests.

message 25: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Burgos | 5 comments Read the Divine Dungeon. You’ll love it. I was standoffish at first due to the Dungeon perspective, but there are twists and different elements that you wouldn’t expect, and it’s not all in the perspective of the dungeon. It also follows other characters. I got hooked!!

Adventure, a beautiful dog. I felt like I was with them instead of just watching them like in Alaria.
Also I just couldn't be okay with a person who snuck out to kill people who weren't even attacking. That was it for me. I already didn't like Elli because she just walked in and started telling Liam what to do, and I began to have a problem with Liam being okay with that because she was pretty. Just no. Basically I really hated the characters.

Ah, unsympathetic characters. Makes sense. Thanks!
