laurel [the suspected bibliophile] (laurelthereader) Recommendations

We all get in reading slumps, right?

Do you have books that are guaranteed to pull you out of a slump and back into a reading spree?

Let us know what they are, and give us a quick summary on what makes them so great!

Hmmm... At the height of COVID-19 Pandemic here in the Philippines, Joe Abercrombie's The Last Argument of Kings got me back into my regular reading schedule.

Jaye Card (jayecard) My last reading (or fiction in general) slump got ended by Spellslinger. It's an easy to read series with some nice twists that make for a fresh breath of air, and unexpected corners that make you want to keep going. There's a series of six, and none of the books are particularly long, so it's a great choice to get moving again.

Crank by Ellen Hopkins
Or really anything by her, her stuff is pretty fast paced and intriguing but definitely make sure to look up some trigger warnings before picking up.
Crank
Mostly just anything that is face paced and interesting can bring me out of a slump : )

kirra 🤹‍♀️ | 3 comments My bookshelf is filled with countless unread books that i've just been impulse buying..! I either cant find the motivation, or don't have enough time to sit down and read them. Solution? Audiobooks!! On a lazy Sunday when i cant be bothered to get out of bed, i'll lay down, put my AirPods in, and find one of the books i've been putting off reading on some shady website🤭

elliebellie | 3 comments A book that pulled me right of my slump is The Enemy by Charlie Higson. An adrenaline rush of a book, and the best part is that there’s seven books, so if you like the first one, you’re in luck—you have six more books!

However, you’d probably have to have an accustomed taste for violence and gore, because, unfortunately, you get a lot of that in The Enemy series. I suggest you look it up and see if some of the dark content it contains are okay with you. But tears were shed when good characters were built up and torn apart, and I’ve spent some late nights reading more chapters than I planned because the book was way too intense to put down. The Enemy is an honest-to-goodness thriller ready to grab you by the throat and hurtle you through the 300+ pages. It got me out of my slump and then some. An excellent choice if you’re looking for something to really kick your reading into high gear, haha.

Erin Rogoff (erinrogoff) I was in a slight book slump after finishing a bunch of insta-love romance novels by Cassie Mint (there are so many, and I've finished two series in two weeks), but now I'm consumed by "The Electric Kingdom" by David Arnold. I'm DEFINITELY going to review this book on my BookTube channel!

Abbie | 12 comments I always read one of the first three or four Harry Potter books to get out of a reading slump .. they’re easy, nostalgic, just childishly joyful books that I can get through quickly before I feel ready to move on to a new book :))
