Okay, all I have to do is get the 1st book (which I can get Tomorrow) and then we’ll be able to start. How do you want to do it? Chapters or Pages?

I want to go with pages. You let me know if you agree after getting the book or if you prefer chapters. I mainly say pages because some of the chapters seem long. I've only skimmed though.

I’m find with that. How many pages a day? 30? (I really don’t care how many pages. I read a lot in general.) Oh, and I have the book, I got it yeasterday, so I’m ready to start when you are!

I am glad we are not starting just yet. My family has been getting sick and I must have caught what they have because my throat and head have been hurting. Maybe this is TMI, but looking at my other posts I thought they seemed too meh. I really am excited for this buddy read.

Up to page 64 since there is clear break in the story line. I didn't want to stop in the middle of a situation.

(view spoiler)[So far it looks like Alina's adventure and obstacles are about to start. She is an adult just discovering she is a Grisha, which seems to happen when people are younger in Ravka. I suppose that is why (most) of the Grisha are arrogant. They are treated more like upper class or something like that. Alina didn't grow up that way so I expect troubles there; some dislike from Grisha like that girl in blue kefta.

To backtrack a bit to Mal...I don't really like or see what Alina sees in him, but it is still early. Maybe he likes her back or just sees her as a sister. More backstory will be revealed, so perhaps I might grow to like this potential pairing. I do like that they have been separated because distance makes the heart grow fonder.

However, I also think it is scary and sad to be separated from the one person who you might call family when you have just learned something new and kind of frightening about yourself. Definitely looking forward to backstory.

Part of that backstory being Alina's sun summoning powers. At the beginning of chapter one she mentions a scar on her palm. Did nothing happen back then? Probably not because she was not taken away and trained as a Grisha. Later when Mal is questioned about what he saw out in the Fold Alina can tell he is lying, so it makes me wonder...(upon rereading the questioning part he says he said something to her, but can't recall. could be a love confession. who'd want to admit that in front of so many people)

She does vaguely remember being tested for that when she is asked in chapter four. Looking forward to this too; if she ever does remember.

Too bad Alexei died. I thought he might still be part of the story early on.

Lots of guys around Alina and no sign of a potential female friendship. Oh well. That happens sometimes (and it is still early). Besides Ravka seems a cut throat type of world, so there could be little room for real friendship/trust regardless of gender. (hide spoiler)]

I've heard the world in this series is based on Russia or at least the language might be. I have no idea if the words in italics are actually russian words, another slavic language or just inspired by it. I googled this and it seems it is russia-inspired and the language/words are made up by the author.

I have thought what is the difference between Corporalki and Corporalnik. Is one a title rank and the other a common noun? I could use a glossary of terms; hopefully one is provided in later books or I just get used to it because most things are explained.

So, I kinda read a read last night. I’m on page 75, and it gets intense. And that’s all I’m saying because I don’t want to ruin it for you.

What?! Just 11 pages later it gets intense? I should have kept reading.
