SciFi and Fantasy Book Club discussion

In the beginning of the series I was really hooked, but with each new episode the trickle of tropes turned into a flood of all so painfully common sub-plots we've seen before.
The last few episodes gave me the impression the writers decided to throw everything at the wall and see what sticks.

I can think of several ways they could have made the show better. How about you? What would you have changed about the various sub-plots and plot holes to make this a great sci fi show?

I couldn’t make it past the middle of the second episode, so for me this is a page one rewrite. I probably read the short story it’s based on, but I have no recollection of it at all, so I can’t compare the two, except to assume that there wasn’t enough material to sustain a series. An episode of the Twilight Zone maybe.

I actually tweeted Netflix, offering to fix the story if they decide to do a second season.

I feel like they could have edited a lot of it down that it could have fit in a movie format.
