I am trying to replace my disintegrating paperbacks with sturdy hardcover editions. I am going for quality over collector's value. Does anyone have any recommendations about which publishers to buy and which to avoid?

Check out ABE books for used but good hard cover copies. I bought myself 13 books by a favored author for about $50 there for Christmas.
I like the original William Heinemann Ltd editions. I've seen some of the Australian editions in used/rare bookstores.
