This is a monthly challenge. This isn’t just a reading challenge but a watching challenge as well. Read the books and watch the movie or tv show – in whichever order you prefer. Books should be those that have been adapted and the same goes for the movies.

Anyone started anything yet? I just read The Halloween Tree and I'm happy to find out that it has a film based on it. Going to watch it soon!

message 8: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) I started The A.B.C. Murders last night.

message 9: by Aqsa, Dracarys! (new)

Aqsa (her_747) | 10619 comments Mod
How are you finding it so far?

message 10: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) Well I'm listening to the audiobook, that is always a challenge for me. I have great difficulties concentrating so have to rewind a lot and just hope I don't miss anything. Also I really have to get used to the Dutch narrator. So after a couple of hours listening I'm now 40 minutes into the story.... We'll see how it goes.

message 11: by Aqsa, Dracarys! (new)

Aqsa (her_747) | 10619 comments Mod
That sounds like work, why don't you try reading it yourself, Susy?

message 12: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) Cause I have too many other physical and ebooks going 😂
And I’m training my listening skills lol, so I’d be listening to an audiobook anyway

Haha, good good. Keep it up! I feel like I should try an audiobook someday.

Started reading The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society and I am thrilled to know that it was adapted into a film last year! Our March Sprint is coincidentally rich in adapted books :)

It's really up to you to see if it fits that way. The movie might be based on all 3 books if it's conclusive but really it's your call :)

I don't think it's based on all 3 books, but I liked reading the book anyway, even if I feel like it doesn't contribute to the challenge. Might still watch the movie though :P I found out my other library book actually has a movie adaptation so I'll add that one :D

Susy (susysstories) Update message 4

Ok, that was the worst adaptation EVER! Ugh, such a waste of my time. They changed Poirot into someone completely different (imo that's a capital crime), changed every important detail in the storyline and added stuff that was completely unnecessary. Such a waste of my time.

Susy (susysstories) Updated message 4: The Shining.

This year is an experimental year, but my preliminary conclusion is that I shouldn't be reading a book right before watching the movie. Seeing that I have a very bad memory, just a couple of months in between the two, will be enough. But if I watch the movie right after reading the book I just can't enjoy the movie enough on its own merits. I will continue my experiment for the year, but I expect that 2020 I will either watch the movie that comes out OR read the book...

I'm not sure if it's the same thing but I find that if I read the book and watch the movie side by side, it all gets tangled unless I've watched/read one of them before. Now, I tend to let the book/movie settle in my mind before I pick up the other.
