Did anyone else find it strange how quickly went from willing to kill Julia with the paperweight to becoming enamoured with her?

I think Orwell tried to show how thin love is, throughout the book. It's clearer towards the end of the book. The feeling I got from this story was that love is easily destroyed by fear or ambition, it's an illusion.
Maybe that's the reason why Winston's feelings change in such a fast way.
