Magdalena | 414 comments So Olivermagnus and I have decided to do a buddy read of Falls the Shadow the second book in the Welsh Princes trilogy that we both had as our trim last month. (I only just realized when I was typing this that it's called the Welsh Princes trilogy, I kept calling it the Welsh Princess it actually makes more sense.)

I doubt anyone will want to to join us since it's the second book but if you've read it and feel like joining the discussion you're more then welcome.

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12581 comments Love that you are continuing...and I will be dropping in! Wish had time to read it again.

Olivermagnus (lynda11282) | 4787 comments I've only read the first five chapters but I'm happy the story is picking up right where Here be Dragons left off.

Magdalena | 414 comments I think I'm on chapter 5 as well and I'm really enjoying it, I love meeting the new characters as well as seeing what happens next with the familiar ones. Little Llelo, Llewelyn's grandson is so cute!

It's also really interesting seeing what happens with Eleanor and Nell, I think it's really great how they were both able to follow their hearts with their second marriages, something that didn't happen often in that time.

I've had a mild concussion, it was really stupid, I was in bed and reached back to get something and ended up hitting my head extremely hard on this sharp corner behind my bed. So I've been doing a lot of sleeping (or trying to sleep) because that's what they say to do now. It's slowed my reading down a bit but I'm doing a little better and hope to get back to the book tonight.

Oh Magdalena! I hope you are back to to normal soon!

Hope you feel better soon!

I'm about 25% through and really enjoying it but find Simon and Nell are getting on my nerves. I want more Welsh and less activity in England.

Olivermagnus (lynda11282) | 4787 comments I'm about 45% done and the story has gotten more interesting. As our older characters from Here Be Dragons die off, it's taken me a little while to become more attached to the new ones. They are definitely growing on me now and I've come to appreciate Simon de Montfort and his interaction with King Henry III more.

Magdalena | 414 comments I'm up to 23% and planning to read more tonight. Though I do think the fact that Simon and Nell were able to get married like that is really interesting, the characters themselves are getting on my nerves slightly as well. I am really enjoying it overall though, maybe even more than the first one.

Thank you both for the well wishes! My concussion is taking a little longer to heal than I would like, I'm hoping I don't have to end up going to the doctor, ugh.

Magdalena | 414 comments I've reached 45% and am finding the Welsh storyline very interesting. In the first book I found Gruffydd rather unlikable but I ended up feeling bad for him by the end. And what an end! Wow very dramatic. The fact that I don't know much about medieval Welsh history definitely makes for some surprises, I didn't see that coming at all.

I'm not as thrilled by the English sections at the moment, the back and forth between King Henry and Simon is getting old.

Olivermagnus (lynda11282) | 4787 comments I just finished the book and completely enjoyed it. I can't post any spoilers but in SKP's afterword she mentions her original intent of combining Llewelyn's story with Simon's story. After research she realized she had to do two separate books to fully explore each man's story.

I think it was a great choice. Simon de Montfort goes from a somewhat obnoxious character to an historic figure of integrity. I'm so glad I had a chance to get to know him in this book.

Magdalena - I think you are going to enjoy Book 3 more than this one. It goes back to the Welsh side of the story.
