Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8079 comments What would be a good day trip from your location? My friend and I took a day trip to Havana, Florida, former location of shade tobacco growers. We shopped in the local stores, had lunch in what I'd generously describe as a dive, and took some photos of pole barns on the way home. Nice day trip. What would be a nice day trip for you?

Nik Krasno | 19856 comments Not Havana, Cuba? -:)
We've lots of sites here easily accessible in a day trip format, from natural through historic to cultural. To name a few - Sea of Galilee for its natural and historic sites, The Dead Sea - a unique, likely disappearing natural phenomenon, Jerusalem for its multicultural & historic ambiance, or Tel Aviv for its biz and never-ending nightlife.

J. Gowin | 7988 comments I like to drive over to Boone, NC. There I fly fish in the New River Basin for rainbows, browns, and brookies. Occasionally, I even do some guerrilla fishing on the golf courses around town. I usually eat breakfast at a fast food joint that has a delayed harvest trout stream running through a culvert beneath the parking lot. A camp stove, pan, butter, and almonds make for a nice shore lunch of trout almondine. And there is a neat Italian deli, with excellent stuffed pickled hot cherry peppers, that I hit up on the way home. If I have a little time on the way back, I like to pick through the material eroding out of the road cuts. I have some nice Cambrain and Precambrian fossils that came out of ditches.

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8079 comments I'm happy to hear about day trips in other parts of the world. My imagination takes me there. Thanks to you. I'll be cane pole fishing with my friend in a couple of days, expecting some bream and maybe a bass. Sorry, worms, for your untimely, squirmy demise!

Leonie (leonierogers) | 1579 comments We can pop down to Newcastle, for a day at the beach. It's around 100km away.

Or, for a shorter trip, pop down to Pokolbin for a day in the wineries, eating cheese, and checking out some delicious restaurants.

Alternatively, we can head up in the Barrington Tops for some bushwalking and camping, or even head further north to Tamworth (157km) and Armidale (3 hours drive) for the New England National Park, which is absolutely beautiful.

Then if we go west, there's Narrabri, and Mt Kaputar, for day walks and camping.

Have a good catch!

Holly (goldikova) | 13 comments Two of the world's largest bodies of fresh water bracket my state like parentheses. I can drive to either one in two hours or less. Unfortunately, I'm not a beach person and only go to the lakeshore to visit my brother's family.

Other than that I do make several business trips to the Kentucky Bluegrass each year. It's an eight hour drive from where I live. The countryside is gorgeous, highly recommended.

Marie | 643 comments I have done a couple of day trips with my brother to the beach. There is a very nice beach here in Florida "Anna Marie Island" which is located in the town of Bradenton (Southern Florida). It is a beautiful beach with white sand and certain parts of the beach do not have too many people which makes it nice.

Nik Krasno | 19856 comments If Mar-o-lago is somewhere near, maybe a day trip can also include a game of golf with the incumbent -:)

J.J. Mainor | 2440 comments If Meuller's investigation results Trump forfeiting assets, maybe the government will seize Mar-o-lago and turn it into a public destination. It would be funny to see it turned into a Caddyshack-2 scenario...

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8079 comments Thanks, Leonie, Holly, Marie, for sharing your day trips. Marie, my mom and dad and I lived in Bradenton when I was 2 years old. I don't remember it, of course, but it's cool to hear about it. Leonie, you live in a day-trip-rich environment, lucky girl! Holly, not sure where you are, but bluegrass country sounds beautiful.

Nik, my fishing trip on this very windy day meant fishing from the bank. I only caught two small bream, which are hopefully still swimming after being released. We'll go another day with better results. What's life without hope?
