Dirk Van | 4539 comments This one could prove a bit more difficult.
Hint: I already posted a pic of this artist in february

Heather | 8548 comments I like that! But I have no idea who did it. Let me think on that a bit...

Dirk Van | 4539 comments In case you're wondering the text at the bottom is not a signature but a dedication.
I removed the signature otherwise it would be a little too easy ;-)

Dirk Van | 4539 comments Good guess, but wrong nationality.

message 6: by Heather (new)

Heather | 8548 comments Tamara de Lempicka?

I've never heard of her. But I peeked at February and I still couldn't really figure it out...

Connie G (connie_g) | 456 comments I don't recognize the painting, but if I had to pick a February artist, I would guess Toulouse-Lautrec.

That was my other guess. You might be right, Connie.

Dirk Van | 4539 comments Nope. Both wrong.
I'll give another hint: the date of the painting is 1900.
The artist was 19 then.

message 10: by Heather (new)

Heather | 8548 comments Is the artist Hispanic?

message 11: by Dirk, Moderator (new)

Dirk Van | 4539 comments Yes ;-)

message 12: by Heather (new)

Heather | 8548 comments Could it be Picasso? Really?

message 13: by Dirk, Moderator (new)

Dirk Van | 4539 comments Yes you got it.
You have to realize he was only 19 years old at the time of this painting. After this he went through a lot of phases.
The painting I posted in the February thread was made 69 years later!

message 14: by Heather (new)

Heather | 8548 comments I like his earlier years better, but as far as art goes, his later periods were distinct, different and a new style thus it is considered art in and of itself.

message 15: by Heather (new)

Heather | 8548 comments Oh and I have to admit I cheated. Sorry, I was right about the guess of nationality though, but I did look for the only painter of that origin. Hope I didn’t ruin it for everyone else! I would have never guessed that!

Dirk Van | 4539 comments Here is a self portrait from 1901:
Wasn't he handsome?

message 20: by Dirk, Moderator (new)

Dirk Van | 4539 comments To be honest, mine neither. Looks much too fierce, I prefer soft ;-)

Dirk Van | 4539 comments But weren't you the one who liked the strong jaw line?

message 22: by Heather (new)

Heather | 8548 comments Yes, maybe if he parted his hair on the side, had it a little in his face like a prep, or even a ball cap, that’s hot! (I have a thing for baseball players lol)
