I didn't do so hot with Dewey's readathon. I got a late start (because Pet Sematary) and then I tanked around 3:30 am. I did get a great start on one of my horror reads (Necroscope)...I'm really enjoying it.

These are the scary/horror titles I'm reading this month:
The King of Bones and Ashes (Witches of New Orleans, #1) by J.D. Horn The King of Bones and Ashes Necroscope (Necroscope #1) by Brian Lumley Necroscope Florence and Giles by John Harding Florence and Giles

Also going to try to get to NOS4A2 by Joe Hill

Non-scary books for this month:
The Scapegoat by Daphne du Maurier The Scapegoat The Twelve Caesars by Suetonius The Twelve Caesars The Giver by Lois Lowry The Giver

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 565 comments Mid-Event Check-In:

Listened:
I'll Be Gone in the Dark One Woman's Obsessive Search for the Golden State Killer by Michelle McNamara The X-Files Cold Cases (X-Files, #1) by Joe Harris Lullaby by Jonathan Maberry Evil Has A Name The Untold Story of the Golden State Killer Investigation by Paul Holes The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories by Angela Carter Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens
(halfway through) I Will Find You Solving Killer Cases from My Life Fighting Crime by Joe Kenda

Read:
Wye by Jack Croxall X by Jack Croxall 30 Days of Night, Vol. 1 by Steve Niles

To Listen:
Bird Box by Josh Malerman The Troop by Nick Cutter You (You, #1) by Caroline Kepnes Hidden Bodies (You, #2) by Caroline Kepnes

To Read:
(on page 386) The Stand by Stephen King
The Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks The Affair of the Mysterious Letter by Alexis Hall Unraveling by Karen Lord The Shining (The Shining, #1) by Stephen King

I had to massively slim down my "To Read" list. lol. I have Wife Between Us from Overdrive and the other 2 are ARCs due by the beginning of May. And I'm on page 386 of The Stand but I've been reading it every day now! I've read almost 150 pages in 2 days and I've decided it's coming with me on vacation on Thursday. I have 2 other Overdrive books that aren't for this 'thon as well. Agghhhh. lol.
My Overdrive hold just came in for The Shining which will be a re-read because my GR group is reading Doctor Sleep (The Shining, #2) by Stephen King next month. I own The Shining on paperback but I could barely read it the first time, the font is too small and the pages are yellowed and kind of smudgy.

Great reading, Elyse! I need to start Doctor Sleep before the movie comes out, but I know I can't read it in a month. Is that how long your group read-along is...one month?

Finished Necroscope (Necroscope #1) by Brian Lumley today!

Working on finishing The King of Bones and Ashes (Witches of New Orleans, #1) by J.D. Horn and reading The Scapegoat by Daphne du Maurier for my GR book group.

Currently listening to Good Omens by Terry Pratchett

Joshua Van Dereck | 31 comments I wasn't planning to read this for the Horror readathon, but I finished Robert Bloch's Psycho this evening. I read it for 1950s period research, related to a separate project.

It is clever, at times well written, but consistently a bit less gripping than the Hitchcock film. All of the ideas are here and clearly come from Bloch, but the characters are a bit seedier and less empathic in the book.

We don't really structure our group reads. We have a start date but we don't put a time constraint on it, everyone can read at their own pace and we just hide talking points with the spoiler tag. We're shooting to start May 4 if you want to join us! :) https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I loved it! Did not care for Psycho II as much and really disliked Psycho House. Many years passed between each one being written.

Joshua Van Dereck | 31 comments Finished Dracula this evening. I loved it this time around. Van Helsing definitely veers toward didactic at points, but there is so much thematic, ground-breaking stuff in this book, so much I missed when I read it twenty years ago... It is truly a must-read genre book, straddling horror, gothic fiction, fantasy, and even steampunk sci-fi. I will post my full review for the book tomorrow.

I read 215 pages of The Stand by Stephen King in the past 2 days, woot! lol. Just over halfway through. I am DETERMINED to finish it by April 30! I ended up buying the e-book so I could always be reading it, plus the MMP is hard to read.

Joshua Van Dereck | 31 comments Finished Haunting at Hill House The Haunting of Hill House today. It was a muddling book, with an oddly incomplete feel, but certainly a great source of inspiration for the genre. Joshua Van Dereck | 31 comments Finished 'Salem's Lot this evening. It wasn't bad, but I found it disappointing. It was a very odd mash up of effusive bursts of literary language, cheesy pulp, bloatedness, and underdevelopment. It felt like the sophomore effort that it was. Ah well. I am pleased to have read it. That marks five horror stories for me this month, and three classics. Thanks for the inspiration!

I just have a hard time reading horror this time of year when everything is so gorgeous outside with spring waking up the world around me. I want to read lighter, more relaxing books this time of year, like fun cozies, quirky small town contemporary romance, romantic comedy
