Erin Green | 158 comments I have a row of epic books which I have wanted to read for years, so here goes (not necessarily in reading order). The plan: one reading session per day purely for the 'epics' has worked, so far.

Bleak House - Dickens - Finished & loved it!
David Copperfield - Dickens - Finished and loved it!
Ulysses - Joyce - Finished, but it nearly finished me off!
David Copperfield - Dickens - Finished and loved it!
Gone With The Wind - Mitchell - finished and loved it!
War & Peace - Tolstoy - done and dusted.

As I'm finishing each one I have to be honest; I'm berating myself for having steered clear of reading these epics. Literally their 'doorstopper size' put me off.

Ila | 710 comments Wow! Great choices. David Copperfield and Nicholas Nickleby are my favourites. Happy reading!

Tammy | 352 comments Whoa! That is an epic list. Gone With the Wind should by your easy one. Ulysses is quite a challenge. I'd recommend getting an audio version and reading along. That is how I got through it.

Terris | 4388 comments I'm reading Bleak House now and loving it!! About halfway through.
I also liked David Copperfield and Gone with the Wind.
But, yes, you do have some challenges coming up with Ulysses (have not & will not read it!) and War & Peace (which I did read and enjoyed but spread it out over 3 months).
So have a good time with your challenge -- you have a good list there!!

Pink | 5491 comments I loved Ulysses, but read it slowly, over 3-6 months I think. Second time around I listened to it and that worked well too. The same with War and Peace, I took it slowly and had a mix of reading and listening. Both were well worth the effort for me. I hope you enjoy them :)

Erin Green | 158 comments Ahhh, thank you for the encouragement and input folks. I’m 60% through Bleak House so, I’ll continue to plod.

Darren (dazburns) | 2157 comments Ulysses is one of my personal quarterly-long-reads for this year - planned for July-September - maybe we will overlap?

Anisha Inkspill (anishainkspill) | 498 comments Ulysses, I'm planning to read this year but I'm not as brave as you all, right now I'm opting for the short version.

Erin, that's a good list of reads you got, one day, one day I'll get round to the others. Good Luck!!!

What a daunting list, but your plan sounds like the way to do it. Gone With the Wind and War and Peace are the only two I have finished, but they were very good. Happy reading.

Emily D. | 145 comments Charles Dickens is so fun to read that his books go fairly quickly even though they are so big. I want to read Ulysses this year too, but I'm pushing it off for later in the year...
