Ha ha, Joanne, I have this problem too, but I'm more amenable to just letting those titles slide away and re-reserving them. It is frustrating though.

message 10: by Joanne (new)

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12575 comments Ok, I am going to do some shameless campaigning here, for the History tag!

I have just gone through all 25 pages of the link, and believe me there is something for everyone on that list. I did not verify this, but I really think every single genre possible is represented.

Just to name a few authors I saw-Fitzgerald, Gabaldon, Obama(M), G. Brooks, H.G, Wells, Weir, Hawthorne, Follett....you get the picture.

Go deeper then the first few pages....please😊🙃

Joi (missjoious) | 3970 comments 100% agree with everyone about this month being a SUPER HARD reading month. The past two weeks have been pretty Hell-ish, and I literally haven't read a page since Sunday.

This is the first time I've thrown points at a tag. I generally just use my free one. Definitely hoping for one over the other two.

I need to be more careful with my NetGalley requests - - I even got books that they said weren't accepting requests, but my "wishes" were granted. I do want to read them, but still . . .Of course the one I am reading now is by an author whose previous book I quite enjoyed. This one, eh, not so much.

And of course, I'm halfway through a Netgalley book that could totally count for LGBTQ. Half tempted to hold off on finishing it, sigh. Just in case.

Booknblues | 12082 comments I have books on the first page of all three categories.

I absolutely love rural, but didn't vote for it.

I have so many hardcover history books, that I felt obligated, but I did not put any extra points, because I will be happy what ever wins.

message 24: by Idit (new)

Idit | 1028 comments It feels like if someone campaigned for history and rural, lgbt should get a push too:
So many good books. So diverse.
There are rural, historical, fantasy, romance, literature, humour and just about any culture for Horizon would probably have some decent lgbt fiction

(But either of the three topics is good by me)

message 25: by Hebah (last edited Mar 15, 2019 02:43PM) (new)

Hebah (quietdissident) | 675 comments I threw all my votes to lgbt. I had so many things from my TBR on the first page alone (great YA! Memoirs! Romances! The occasional literary piece!), which almost never happens for me. I'd be OK with either of the others, but history almost feels too easy, and rural is something I probably have TBR titles in, though nothing comes immediately to mind.

Same here, and you can find stuff her that fits the other two shelves very easily--I am trying to get more nonfiction into my life and have some literary nonfiction history books on my tbr. None of these tags would bring in a new genre to my reading.

I've read a LOT on the rural shelf!

But also lgbq has been a theme on several of my groups lately so it seems like the popular thing--for eg in scifi it was The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet (I've read the first two so far, but didn't like the second one as much as the first one). We've also done some of it in my anglophile group, etc, etc. If it wins, it will be easy to find something, of course, as it would be for rural.

NO ONE seems to have done a history challenge, at least not recently enough for me to remember.

Ladyslott | 1880 comments I've been out of the loop (again) - moving and settling into a new lifestyle has been challenging but I'm just about at the end of getting it all together. I haven't been that active here for the past six months or so (despite being a previous moderator for 10 years). I miss everyone, I am going to try and do better going forward. I have been here from the very, very early days and miss participating but am starting to wind down from all the challenges of moving 400 miles across the Florida coast. I love where I am, it's beyond beautiful. The work on the condo is reaching its end (for now, probably more next year- but not as much). I normally read 100 books a year, but the past 2 years I haven't reached that goal. I'm striving toward it now, (a little behind).

message 34: by Magdalena (new)

Magdalena | 414 comments I'm super overwhelmed this month as well. I haven't read my trim or my South Korea book.

I know I could find something for any of them but I have a ton of books on my trim list for one of them so I threw a few points at it.

message 35: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12930 comments I think I am throwing a few votes for Rural. I didn't think that was going to be popular. I figured LGBT would be the popular one. Honestly, I am happy with any of these, and have multiple books on my TBR to fit any and all of them. I couldn't figure out if History was also Historical Fiction, and it seems like many of the books on the list were just that. Historical Fiction close to real turning points in history. That one is easy for me, and in fact its almost too much comfort zone. Its an eyes closed tag for me. But I am going for Rural, because its my hope that the Trim book that's randomly selected will fit. And there is a good deal of rural books on my Trim list of 36, as I was researching. Was sort of going for a double again.

Lady Linda, you have been missed! But it sounds like you are settling in to this next chapter. Really happy for you. Look forward to reading with you whenever you are ready.

Feels like, and therefore i am not alone, that many people are just finding it hard to read in these last couple of months. I feel also extremely behind. With so many things I want to get to, and for some reason, completing the challenges feels important to me, as does actually still trimming the TBR - that feels for some reason, still like something I can do. I really want to see my list clear out this year. I felt like I had a great start in January and February. But in this last month, I have just been super slow. Starting an easy one, so hopefully that will help me get back on track!

message 36: by Holly R W (new)

Holly R W | 3119 comments Maybe this is a common experience. I feel one month behind. In late February, I read a wonderful debut book that I rated 5 stars. This month when the tag is "debut", I'm not finding a book I like well enough to read. Currently, I'm reading a history of Facebook which would fit the history tag if chosen for April. So, I'm one step behind. ;0(

message 37: by Nicole R (new)

Nicole R (drnicoler) | 8088 comments I do not vote as an admin, so I try to pic out a book that will fit each of the tags, preferably from my TBR.

LGBTQ and history are easy, but I need to do some digging for rural. I think I have a book that will fit but I need to scan some tags.

message 38: by [deleted user] (new)

I have voted for history, as it's extremely likely my trim book will fit it. I will be recovering from radiosurgery (for a benign meningioma) in early April so need books that fit multiple challenges!

That happens to me a lot. I let the large print of Pachinko go last month, just before we learned of the South Korea tag, now I'm at #1 for the CD, but I don't think I'll get the book in time.

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11074 comments LibraryCin wrote: "I'll be happy with any of them, though (as usual) I would prefer either of the narrower tags. :-)"

Which ones do you think are more narrow? LGBTQ and ...History or rural? I found almost as many rural books as history books, but I suspect that there are many rural books without a rural "tag."

I figure if LGBTQ comes up I might tackle a James Baldwin or Oscar Wilde book for another challenge I'm in. I've been putting them off for along time. I also have Less, or Fried Green Tomatoes (which is also rural). Most at the top of the list sound too YA for me right now.

Rural - I found more than I expected, and I'm sure there are more on my list but I'd have to dig down to the small numbers. If I need a light book I might look for something southern.

History could be broad depending on how far down you go on the history-historical fiction continuum. I think it would be easy to find a history book to match any culture theme that comes up, but those could be dry.

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11074 comments The perfect March-April book - Debut, History, LGBTQ, and Rural.

The Song of AchillesThe Song of Achilles fits all three tags, plus Debut, so it will be my crossover book. I'll start it in March if I get to it, otherwise I'll read it in April. I loved Circe, and it's by the same author. If I'm feeling very ambitious I might tackle the Iliad too. I wouldn't have had any idea it met all those tags if I didn't read the tag lists!

Does anyone have any other books that meet multiple tags?

For me, at least, history is ridiculously broad! Really broad, I thought!

ETA: That being said, I have multiple to choose from for each tag.

ETA (again): Based on a tagmash at LT, for "history", I have over 200 options! For LGBTQ or rural, I have under 20 on my tbr for each (13 and 18, respectively).

message 46: by LibraryCin (new)

LibraryCin | 11695 comments Amy wrote: "I couldn't figure out if History was also Historical Fiction,..."

I'd say it's probably how you want to define it, since we're more flexible for the month tags (as you know!). For me, though, if it's history, I have plenty of nonfiction I can read, so that's what I'd be sticking to (and yet, for me, history is still the really really broad one, even if I do limit myself to nonfiction!).

Thanks!

What do you mean by "tagmash at LT"??

I was able to figure out which of my TBR36 were matched with the 3 tags, but I first had to go through each book to determine if it met the tag, since I didn't previously tag mybooks with a history or rurul tag. 19 of my tbr36 are history, and 14 or 15 are rural. I don't think any of them are LBGTQ (that I know of).

message 48: by LibraryCin (new)

LibraryCin | 11695 comments NancyJ wrote: "What do you mean by "tagmash at LT"??..."

So, a trick some of us used to use on shelfari was to add our initials (assuming that would be a fairly unique identifier) as a tag. On shelfari, you could combine tags (as you can on LibraryThing - on LT, it's called a tagmash), so when a new tag was chosen, it was easy to combine your initials with the tag, and see what's on your tbr.

I still do that over on LT (add my initials as a tag... though I have found the occasional book that's not actually on my tbr that does have my initials as a tag - not sure why - but it's very few), since I can do a tagmash there.

No, I don't believe it can be done here. Or, at least not that I know of. I think people have asked before, and I'm not sure anyone has found a way.

(As you say, unless you already have it tagged. But, to search wider for ones that anyone has tagged, I don't think so.)
