yay! Thanks Laura :)

Alysa H. | 3840 comments Psst:
In Leaf category, Stephanie has read 8 book (650 pts) for April/May but master spreadsheet shows 1 book (0 pts), in both the Leaf tab and the All Players tab.

Also, in Leaf tab only, Mya's total points are not displaying in the "Current Ranking Order" columns. That is, she appears to be ranked in the correct order, but with a blank where the number should be.

Thanks Alysa!

Please, please, don't add columns to your sheets between the book info table and the summary of points etc. The master tab is looking for information in certain cells, and if you shift them it gets confused!

Stephanie now fixed :)

Alysa H. | 3840 comments Also, a bit of a "policing" question (I know, I know, this might seem bitchy, but it is NOT directed at any one specific person!) :

How do Mods feel about people marking books as completed (on their spreadsheets) when those books do not yet appear anywhere on their GR shelves?

I mean, I suppose it doesn't matter much along the way, as long as the books are shelved as read by the time the spreadsheets are locked. But it's a little weird in terms of, say, other players looking into new book ideas, and also in terms of the Challenge's spirit of transparency.

(I know that some people hold off on entering stuff in their spreadsheets until near the end, perhaps for fear of other players stealing their ideas, but that's not technically the same thing. ;D)

message 456: by Laura (new)

Laura | 9707 comments Karen's idea was to create a fun, individual, competitive challenge; we continued the challenge in response to our positive feedback. We weren't looking for a special shelf and you are right it doesn't matter as long as the books are shelved by the time the spreadsheets are locked!

Read outside your comfort level; find a hidden gem or two ( hopefully no duds ) and just have fun with the challenge!

message 457: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12885 comments I plan mine ahead, and people are more than welcome to take whatever ideas they want...

Unfortunately though, I'm the one that finds all the duds, so whether that is of any use to anyone or not is up for debate, lol.

I know *sigh* I take stuff too literally and too seriously.
I’m just one of those people that gets their feathers ruffled when a minority doesn’t follow the spirit of rules that make things (not just reading challenges, but life in general!) more fun and fair for a majority.

I can also be found making loud huffing noises at people who put their bags on a seat on the train even when the train is not crowded. 😉

Lol. I have read some duds for this month too. And not even for tasks that I couldn’t find better books for!

message 460: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I have mine somewhat planned ahead. But last month I was one of the ones who messed up their spreadsheet by deleting lines because I changed my books so much. This month I am being more careful with my longing. Just so I don't break my spread sheet links again.

So I've just been adding a couple at a time when I know what I'm going to read for sure.

message 461: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I've been lucky so far in that books I already had on my radar fit for a lot of the 100 point tasks.

message 462: by Roz (new)

Roz (irasobrietate) Um I might have messed up my spreadsheet somehow? Task 2 is no longer an option on any of the drop-down boxes in column A. I was editing the books I planned on reading so I might have deleted more than I meant to but I'm also not sure what exactly I did to delete that one task from all the drop downs.

Thanks for the warning 😂 I usually try not to snoop on other spreadsheets, but I do if I’m really struggling — now I know to avoid yours!

Ashleigh | 735 comments For the listopia tasks, does the book have to be on the first page of 100? Or can it be on page 2?

That's the plan; though good plans sometimes get derailed.

I highly doubt this will count but I looked through the list of Shakespearean names and came across Bishop which they said was a title for a character. In my book a character goes by the name Bishop. Is there any chance I could use it for the task?

I was ready to say yes but then when I went and looked at which task you were referring to it says main character.. It doesn't sound like your book will work!

Carrie (carriele1216) | 1317 comments Can I be changed from Bud to Sapling please? I was able to get in my 9 last month but that's not going to happen this month unfortunately.
Thanks!

message 482: by Laura (new)

Laura | 9707 comments The same as in the Upside Down challenge; we can change player categories up to the end of month one but after that we can't. That's why we stressed at the beginning of both challenges to recognize how many books/ month you read and which category to sign up for.

message 484: by Laura (new)

Laura | 9707 comments All books must be logged on your spreadsheets before the end of the countdown clock.
Once sheets are locked no other books will be added by players or moderators for month 2.

message 485: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12885 comments Will we be getting the tasks for the next month soon? I was hoping to trawl through the second hand shops today, but it'll be too late to go soon :(

Awesome! How long is that from now, approx? As I'm in the UK and need to know what time I need to stay up 'til and plan caffeine intake accordingly, lol.

Missed out on being able to buy anything, so hope I can do tasks with books I own this month!

message 490: by Mary X (last edited May 20, 2019 11:25AM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I'm serious, one of the reasons I do these challenges is because it helps me narrow down books. When left to my own devices I end up starting book after book and can't pick one to focus on and finish.

Some times I miss the days before the internet and I discovered reading book series in order and tracking books I've read etc..,. Such innocent times of just grabbing what looked good and only have a few books on hand to choose from. (of course living on an island with a bad library and one tiny bookstore helped)

No problem. I didn't realize that changes were unable to be made after the first month. I read the "read all about" instructions but must have missed that. I apologize.

Did you ingest plenty of caffeine? Did you have to stay up very late? It was more important to get the tasks added to the spreadsheet than to let you know what time that was... especially as I had no idea what time I would be updating!

In that order but not necessarily in the same word ( to make it a bit easier)

That's ok, I was knocking back cokes for a while, lol. I should probably have phrased it better. I had no idea what timezone you were in, so was just wondering so I could plan. A few hours less sleep won't kill me ;)

Laura | 9707 comments Carrie wrote: "Laura wrote: "The same as in the Upside Down challenge; we can change player categories up to the end of month one but after that we can't. That's why we stressed at the beginning of both challenge..."

Maybe it wasn't as clear as we thought but once you sign up for a category and you meet the reading requirements for the first month but say not the second then you won't be eligible to win in month 2 or month 3 for your signed up category so it doesn't make any sense to switch you now to a new category.
Does that make more sense?
