The Last Tycoon is a book F. Scott Fitzgerald didn't finish. Fitzgerald left notes behind, so it was possible to glimpse the author's intentions with the novel. You can read the original book or a revised edition. I suppose the best one would be by Matthew J. Bruccoli since it won a Choice Outstanding Academic Books award of 1995.

The latter was the basis for a TV series, The Last Tycoon (2016-2017), in which starred in main roles Matt Bomer, Kelsey Grammer and Lily Collins. However, I am more attracted to the movie, The Last Tycoon (1976), directed by Elia Kazan, written for screen by Harold Pinter, and in which appeared many stars of that time - Robert De Niro, Tony Curtis, Robert Mitchum, Jeanne Moreau, Jack Nicholson, Donald Pleasence and many others.

The story is set in Hollywood 1930s, looking into the life and politics behind all that glamour. I haven't read it yet. The Great Gatsby wasn't my cup of tea at first, but after studying it a bit more, it captured my imagination. I hope we'll like this one too!

Byron Brubaker | 3 comments I am currently reading the one revised by Bruccoli. I streamed the TV series starring Matt Bomer a little while ago and may get around to watching the movie from the 70s eventually. The change in POV from the book to the series is the biggest adjustment to start.
