Shomeret | 411 comments When I was a child I was taught the following mnemonic to remember the planets in our solar system:

My very educated mother just served us nine pickles.

Since Pluto is no longer regarded as a planet, she needs to have served us something other than pickles.

There have been some dwarf planet discoveries since Pluto was removed from the planetary roster.

So I would like to add Eris, Goblin and Farout to the mnemonic which might now read as:

My very educated mother just served us nine excellent gefilte fish.

Any other proposals?

Karin Actually, someone told me recently that there is some debate as to bringing Pluto back as a planet.

I didn't use a mnemonic to memorize them, so am not troubled by this, but CB has two great suggestions.

I did use mnemonics to learn the notes on the treble and bass staffs, though. Thankfully no one is going to vote any of them off, so if I still needed them, I'd be safe (but don't).

Kristin B. Bodreau (krissy22247) | 726 comments I was taught these two:

My very educated mother just served us nine pizzas

and the much more accurate (at the time)

My very educated mother just showed us nine planets

I was always confused as to why her level of education had anything to do with her serving of pizza.

Trike I still think removing Pluto was stupid, and their definition of what constitutes a planet is ludicrous.

Agreed. I don't see the harm in keeping Pluto a planet.
