Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1236 comments I haven't got a blog...

It seemed like one more job to do...

If I can think of any group promotion type things, I'll let you know. For instance, are we allowed in GR groups to promote not only our own book, but also similar ones in the same post? If so - I could definitely rattle on about mine and one or two other authors/books in as many groups as allow me to do so! I expect that to be upwards of 10. I think they'd have to be reasonably similar so I can make a link.

I could include crime books for my smuggling books , for example, by saying something like "If you want something more up-to-date try "Title" by "Author" as they're reckoned to be very good and sell at only $x.

Or is this a silly idea?

I would be interested in joining assuming I can steal the time for it. I'm afraid I can't be a organizer, though.

message 5: by D.J. (new)

D.J. Cooper | 1028 comments I can join but not organise. I have a blog on my website. It won't do you any good-only I look at it. I can post Medium articles. But only we look at them lol.

Sam (Rescue Dog Mom, Writer, Hugger) (sammydogs) | 970 comments Alex, I apologize I'm unable to help. I'm not a published author and don't have a website or blog. I only publish articles on Medium. However, whatever you post on Twitter, I re-Tweet. I hope to be of more help someday. Hugs

Sam (Rescue Dog Mom, Writer, Hugger) (sammydogs) | 970 comments Thank you for your understanding, Alex. Hubby took my broken tablet to a few places and it's not fixable. I know all the books I bought and downloaded are in my Amazon account, but I can't even read and post reviews of those books. I haven't done much reading over the past couple of years with my physical and emotional pain but was ready to start reading again. I can only read hard copies of books until I can get another tablet. I know I could download the Kindle app on my phone or laptop, but neither would be comfortable to read from. Again, I'm so very sorry I'm unable to help out. I will as soon as I can. Huge hugs.

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1236 comments On Wednesday 17th April, I plan to advertise One Dark Night (The Dark Moon Series #1) by Anna Faversham
in some Goodreads groups. I shall be saying something like "Time is running out to buy this book for 0.99" And, of course, I'll give a bit of a description of my historical romance. It's what the US calls clean and wholesome but does contain some violent scenes (smugglers - nasty lot, you just can't trust 'em).

If you have a 'clean' book (most genres) that I could add on with a couple of sentences that is on sale at that date, then please message me and I'll see if I can put something together for one of you.

Very happy to do this for you lovely lot. If I can make this acceptable, then I can do this for another person on another date.

Grea Alexander (greaalexander) Greetings Goodreads Authors!

I am hosting 2 group giveaways on Prolific Works (formerly Instafreebie) and StoryOrigin: one Horror and one Historical Fiction. It’s a good, FREE way to expose your work to a new audience. Some authors use these group giveways just for exposure. Some use it to build up their email/newsletter lists. Others still use them to gather reviews.

These promotions will run for the entire month of May (during which participating authors will offer a free download to readers). You can either give away an entire work, a short story related to your book(s)/series, or a preview/sample that includes a chapter or more of your work. If you are in Kindle Unlimited, you are permitted to offer up to 10% for free and still be in compliance with your obligations (so I’ve heard).

Both PW and SO offer free accounts – the main difference being that StoryOrigin will allow you to collect email addresses at the free level and Prolific Works will not. Simply create a free account, upload your “books” and click the applicable link below to join the giveaway. You can join on one site. You can join on both. Each has their own audience/authors.

I’ve found the easiest way to get an .epub, .mobi and .pdf all at the same time is to create a “sample” book on Draft2Digital and simply not publish it. D2D will automatically convert anything you upload into all 3 formats. Once in the preview, all you have to do is download each.

Each author who participates is responsible for promoting the giveaway in whatever way works for them – the theory being that the more authors who participate and promote, the more exposure all of the authors who participate receive.

Information on each of my giveaways is below:

---

Horror Giveaway

This is a Horror giveaway.

The only requirement to join this group is that your book is Horrific in nature.

All horror sub-genres are welcome as are works of all lengths: full length novels, novellas, short stories, previews/samples, etc.

There is a maximum of 3 books per author, please.

In addition, please share this promotion as much as you can during its run time and via whatever platform works for you: newsletter, social media, Ouija board…seance, whatever.

You can require names and emails from readers or you can not. It’s completely up to you.

That being said, welcome aboard!

Story Origin - Horror: https://storyoriginapp.com/bundles/48...

Historical Fiction

This is a Historical Fiction giveaway.

The only requirement to join this group is that your book is Historical Fiction in nature. For the purposes of this promotion, let’s go with books set in a time period that is at least 50 years in the past (pre-1969).

All historical fiction sub-genres are welcomed including those with time travel type elements (as long as at least 60% of the story takes place in a historic time period(s)).

Works of all lengths are welcomed: full length novels, novellas, short stories, previews/samples, etc.

There is a maximum of 2 books per author, please.

In addition, share this promotion as much as you can during its run time and via whatever platform works for you: newsletter, social media, carrier pigeon…sky writing, whatever.

You can require names and emails from readers or you can not. It’s completely up to you.

That being said, welcome aboard!

I have one that's reduced to $.99. I'm not sure what you consider clean. Mine has rape, but there's no graphic details, just that it happened and he strangled them during the act. No details.

That's probably fine, Angela. If you message me the details, I'll try and include it, along with Alex's if it is reduced around 17th April, which is when I plan to put posts on Goodreads.

That's a lot to digest! Thank you. I've created my SO account but haven't had time to link it to my newsletter and books yet. I tried at my office, but there seems to be a firewall issue, so I'll have to do it from home.

I'm kinda thorough that way. (wink)

message 22: by Grea (new)

Grea Alexander (greaalexander) If anyone is interested in joining the giveaways for female authors, or authors of color, they are open to all genres.

Female Authors:

Story Origin: https://storyoriginapp.com/bundles/7b...
Prolific Works: https://www.prolificworks.com/groupgi...

Authors of Color:

Story Origin:https://storyoriginapp.com/bundles/d7...
Prolific Works: https://www.prolificworks.com/groupgi...

I plan to do 2 general giveaways per platform each month from the 1st to last day as well as 1 or 2 specialty giveaways each month from the 15th-15th.

I will set up the ones for June mid-April. I'm thinking maybe indie authors & protagonists of color for the specialty groups.

---

P.S. This is me procrastinating. I'm supposed to start a new book today but I'm a bit on the tired side.

Dale Lehman (dalelehman) | 1814 comments I got my account, books, and email list set up last night, and sent out a couple of swap requests, one of which has been approved. Once I get more comfortable with this, I might incorporate it more fully into my platform. I've been very on-again, off-again with blog posts and emails, but if I have some shareable content and a schedule, it might force me to be better at it . . .

. . . . or to mess it up completely and get people mad at me. ;-)

message 24: by Grea (new)

Grea Alexander (greaalexander) I'm personally involved in a lot of group promotions (lately) so I send out whatever I have twice a month (around the 2nd and 4th weeks).

I haven't really ventured into the newsletter swaps yet as I'm extremely new to the whole newsletter gambit.

Hi, Anna, I had expressed interest, but haven's seen anything about what details to include, kindly post that, and is this appropriate for a children's book and if I don't have a blog?

message 27: by Anna (new)

But don't worry you've probably not missed anything as I have realized that as I don't belong to any children's groups on Goodreads, I couldn't really get away with including children's books.

I hope somebody else may be a better fit for you.

Morgan Shipman (morganshipman) | 6 comments I help moderate a group and one of our main objectives is our Advanced Reader Program (ARO)! We have many authors who have submitted a set number of copies of their books for members to request and read. This has helped many Indie authors get noticed and have their books read. We'd love to gain more author participation and give other authors the opportunity to have their books noticed through our ARO Promo broadcast messages each month!

It sounds like through what you mentioned, we'd able to post the link to our group? If so, this is something that I'd love to participate in! :)
