Sophie (notemily) | 469 comments I'm wondering about books with multiple editions. Not just republished, but edited. Like travel books that release a new edition every year with updated information about the place. Should these be combined?

Usually yes.

Yup. And "revised 3rd edition" should be moved from the title line to the edition field.

Sophie (notemily) | 469 comments I have a related question: If a travel book (like a Lonely Planet guide) is released in several different editions and some of those editions have different primary authors, do we move all the editions to the first author's page and add the newer authors as secondary, or do we keep them on the individual author pages?

Example:

Lonely Planet New York City
New York City

Sophie (notemily) | 469 comments Or I guess a third option would be to make all the primary authors "Lonely Planet" and add actual people as secondary authors...

Paula (paulaan) | 7014 comments No policy is to put a "real person" name if known, so the editors can be different but should be in the primary position.

In this case precedent is set to create a series to link the editions together

Edit:

Example series of Alaska Guides

Sophie (notemily) | 469 comments Oh, I see. Thanks! So we only combine editions of the same (guide)book if the primary author is the same, and if it's not, a series can be created.

Paula (paulaan) | 7014 comments yes, that is correct
