Goodreads Librarians Group discussion

My understanding of the policy is that the name should appear as published. Sometimes other countries have a different way of presenting an author name, that is, last name first.

I have tried to fix Natsume Sōseki numerous times, which has been changed to Sōseki Natsume. I have even left a librarian note. (See page 14 of the edits.) I have flagged the change and note deletion, but I'd like clarity for this author and I'm sure there are others.

Personally, I thought that we should use the "western" (Firstname Lastname) way of adding author names.

Since, other than with different spellings/alphabets, it makes no difference in the search (both encompass the same name), and also having both profiles can cause problems if different editions use FL versus LF.

So, the way the name is published isn't right?

All editions should have the primary author name as the standard or most common Roman (that is, English-language) version of the author's name.

And, I ask as much because I don't know how many people know, in this case, that Natsume is the last name. I freely admit that I did not know, that I just saw - repeatedly - that the name is being switched around. Eventually, of course, I've read more about him. But I don't think changing the way the name is published is the right way to go about things. However, if staff says we should do this, of course I'll comply.

I don't understand what you're saying here. Natsume Soseki is published on English language editions as Natsume Soseki.
