Excerpts from the book:
1
We are not human beings on a spiritual journey
We are spiritual beings on a human journey
- Pierre Teilhard de Chardin -
This is a classic quote of French Philosopher Pierre, who enlightens us
regarding the true nature of the human spirit and our real identity.
Our current human form may not be our real identity and it may only be a
temporary identity that our spirit has acquired. In all probability, the
spirit has acquired this identity to learn some valuable life lessons.
So, it is important for us to learn those lessons as long as we have this
form. Because, in reality we will never know if we will ever get this
opportunity again.
So, it is better to make the best use of this opportunity called human
birth and learn the important lessons of life.

Human perspective
Results are recognized rather than the efforts
God's perspective
Efforts are recognized rather than the results
- Author -
This is an extraordinary line of thought which people should try to
understand.
From a God's perspective, a truly great effort is always recognized
irrespective of the success or failure of the effort.
From a human perspective, everything is measured in terms of results.
Consequently, human beings do not recognize those men who made a great
effort and failed. And they recognize only those who have succeeded.
From a very practical point of view, a truly great effort always succeeds.
But due to adverse circumstances and other reasons, it may fail sometimes.
But God measures success not in terms of results, but in terms of the
growth it gives to the human being.
Any extraordinary effort always leads to growth in character and that is a
great reward in itself. And it is a Bonus, if it also leads to favourable
results!

The happiest people always evaluate
and keep improving themselves.
The unhappy people are always
evaluating and judging others
- Source: Internet -
This is a golden quote which underlines the importance of attitude and
approach, and how they make a big difference in our lives.
The happiest people are those who are constantly trying to improve
themselves and become better. They do not spend time on judging others or
finding fault with other's behaviour.
They do not complain about the problems in life and are instead trying to
find a solution to the problems.
The unhappy ones are always evaluating and judging others. They find
faults with others and are totally oblivious of their own faults. They are
constantly in complaint mode and do not realise that they have room for
improvement and should be working towards that.
The attitude makes all the difference in people. The ones who are
constantly improving are always happy and the ones who are complaining are
always unhappy.
So, always try to make efforts to become better at what you do and to
become a better person. That will surely bring happiness in our lives.
4
The greatest enemy of knowledge
is not ignorance,
it is the illusion of knowledge.
- Stephen Hawking -
This is the most modern quote that highlights the sign of the times we are
in.
Currently, the world is going through a knowledge era, where man has made
great progress in acquiring knowledge. And the journey is on-going, where
we are still learning and making new discoveries.
But, we also face a huge challenge in disseminating this knowledge. With
the advent of modern technologies, it is very easy to spread the
knowledge. But, on the flip side, it is also very easy to spread false
knowledge.
People make their own conclusions and claim to be experts and start
spreading this false knowledge.
Currently, we have not evolved any mechanisms to standardise knowledge and
ways to disseminate them. As a result, technology is being used to spread
a huge amount of false knowledge. Everybody claims to be an expert and
tries to make money by selling this false knowledge, promising life
changing benefits.
This problem has seeped into all areas of knowledge. Especially it is very
rampant in the spiritual and healthcare domains.
There are spiritual gurus a dime a dozen who promise anything from
enlightenment to eternal bliss. There are self-proclaimed healers who can
cure all diseases. And people who have the secret herbs from the deepest
forests to grow hair back on your head.
And some of this false knowledge can actually do more harm than we can
imagine. So, people should be careful about information from non-standard
and unverified sources.
Think twice before implementing any changes based on information from
public sources.
Think critically before following any gurus. If in doubt, ask questions to
get your doubts clarified. If people cannot answer your questions or
provide sufficient proof, avoid those gurus.
Do not blindly believe everything. Subject everything to thorough scrutiny
before accepting it.
5
The ultimate measure of a man
is not where he stands in moments of
comfort and convenience,
but where he stands at times of
challenge and controversy.
- Martin Luther King, Jr. -
This is a classic quote that tells us how we can judge the character of a
man.
Most of the times, we support people or causes, as long as it does not
affect our life.
But the moment our support or stand begins to affect our life or create
problems and hardships for us, we will immediately back out.
We are not willing to do the right thing, if doing the right thing is
going to get us into trouble or create problems for us.
So, our support for any cause is extended only when it does not affect our
life. But people with real character will not back out even if their
support to a just cause brings hardships in their life.
They do the right thing, no matter what consequences they have to face on
account of that.
It is easy to take a convenient stand. But taking an inconvenient stand is
the real test for a man. And that is the true measure of a man. It is the
true indicator of their character and courage.
6
The mind is its own place
and in itself,
can make a Heaven of Hell,
a Hell of Heaven.
- John Milton -
This is a classic quote from Milton which highlights the beauty of the
mind and its power.
The human body helps us to survive and the human mind helps us to live our
life.
Our entire life is nothing but a response of our mind to the situations
around us. And depending on how our mind responds, the happiness and peace
in our life will be determined.
A little bit of control over the mind and the way it perceives things will
go a long way in making our life peaceful.
If the mind perceives things wrong, then it can ruin a perfectly good life.
But, if it has the ability to be detached and not get affected by negative
events, then it can remain calm and peaceful even in a bad situation.
So, learning to remain detached, and the ability to let go of negative
things that affect us, will go a long way in gaining control over our
mind.
With our mind under control and a positive outlook in life, we can lead a
happy and peaceful life
7
Transformation is a gradual process
- Source: Internet -
This quote highlights the importance of time that is needed to make a
change in our life.
When we are making efforts to change ourselves to become a better person,
we need to be patient to see the results.
We will be making efforts to quit habits, cultivate new habits and make
new efforts. And it will not be easy to sustain the new habits, since the
old habits die hard and they will try to come back into our lives.
We have to persevere and keep at it, in order to totally get rid of the
old habits, and keep the new habits.
This will be very hard in the initial stages since we cannot sustain the
efforts for a long time. We can make the efforts for one or two days and
then the old habits will be back with a vengeance to reclaim you.
And sometimes we win, and sometimes they win. We should not give up even
if we slip a few times.
We should keep up our efforts and show consistency for a significant
period of time.
Then slowly we will begin to notice that the old habits are losing their
hold on us. Now, it will be possible to get out of the old habits and
cultivate new habits that can change our lives for the better.
8
Life is easier when you accept
the apology that you never received
- Robert Brault -
This is a golden quote which highlights the need to forgive people in
order to lead a peaceful life.
Many a times, we come across people who hurt us or wrong us in some way,
and it causes lot of anguish and sorrow. People may realise their mistakes
later and apologize to us. And we accept their apology and forgive them,
to make peace with them.
But, there will also be occasions when people do not apologize and think
what they did was right. This may cause a lot of mental agony to us.
So, in order to retain our mental peace, we should forgive them also, even
though they didn’t apologize. This will help us in forgetting the bitter
memories, and make peace with ourselves.

At times,
our own light goes out
and is rekindled by a
spark from another person.
- Albert Schweitzer -
This is a golden quote which highlights the role that others play in our
life to inspire us and lift us when we start to lose hope.
Sometimes, the situations we face will be overwhelming and we will be
completely swept over by them. We lose faith in ourselves and feel like
giving up since we won’t have the strength to go on.
And in those kind of situations, we meet someone who will lift us up and
convince us of our potential.
They will make us go on and continue our efforts. They infuse us with
fresh energy and rekindle our enthusiasm.
And with the inspiration they give, we can lift ourselves and make a
spirited effort that leads us to our goal. We should be thankful to them
who inspire us and help us to get our strength back.
There are moments in life when we are at the lowest point and a little bit
of external help is needed to get us back on track.
And we should be grateful to those people who provide that little nudge at the right time.
