Harper Nicole (harpernicole) Oh, what inspired me to write... Hmm, I didn't really have an "inspiration" per se, but I had a love. I've always loved writing. I've written songs for as long as I can remember. Poems, descriptions, and letters. But, when I was twelve, I started writing in screen play, episodes of K.C. Undercover. I know, I know. Anyway, I started writing those, and then soon, I started writing my own episodes of my own show, that happened to be a lot like K.C. Undercover. Lol But, I got into writing books when I read The Hunger Games. I was so sad at how it ended. It ended gorgeously, of course. But, I wish we knew what happened to Gale. So I started writing a "sequel" to The Hunger Games. It didn't last long before I realized that you can't write someone else's characters. Lol Yeah, duh, I know. But, I had so much fun doing it, anyway. And when I started getting book ideas in my head, I started writing them down, and now I'm writing books!! There's my writer life's story!
My first character that I made for a book was Brooke Railer. I still love her, and am still working with her. She's soft spoken, but fun and has an optimistic outlook.

Harper Nicole (harpernicole) I love Adeline already, just so you know, Emily. I can already see a fun personality in her.

message 3: by Harper Nicole (new)

Harper Nicole (harpernicole) Where is your favorite place to write?

message 4: by Harper Nicole (new)

Harper Nicole (harpernicole) I almost always write on my bed at night listening to YouTube or Spotify.

message 5: by Harper Nicole (new)

Harper Nicole (harpernicole) Darkness is, sadly, my friend when it comes to writing. Lol

message 6: by Harper Nicole (new)

Harper Nicole (harpernicole) Emily wrote: " When you write, do you type it on a computer or use paper and ink? "

Computer. I like it to look like I'm reading to myself, and I only get that in print. Also, it's just easier for me.

Harper Nicole (harpernicole) Emily wrote: " Do you do better writing guy or girl characters?"

Girl. But I don't think I'm awful at writing guys. Lol

Being a guy, I write guys better. However I have had quite a few girl MCs.

message 9: by Harper Nicole (new)

Harper Nicole (harpernicole) So, like, the whole plot, even if there are spoilers?

Current synopsis (still working on it):
Maya Ashtar was shipped away from earth, away from her family, along with many others at the beginning of the revolution all in the name of sameness. She lives on the planet Kyrin with all of the others who broke the aura of sameness. All the old, sick, disabled. Anyone who had any kind of serious injury. Unlike others though, Maya doesnt know why shes there. Shes not sick or ugly. She's not rebelious or spunky. She's just an average girl.
But then she runs into an underground group of rebels, where everything changes for her.
With the help of an albino girl and her secret crush, she works to take down the evil government and restore the universe to peace. Or so she thinks.

Bleh. Yeah
It’s not great but it’s still under construction XD

Harper Nicole (harpernicole) Joey wrote: "You can give us spoilers if you want Harper I don’t mind!"

I'll just give my synopsis as well.

Jane D. Camp always has something to say. Until Asher Glade, a senior in her school, shows up and turns her world upside down. Starting with her school. When she learns what the school has hiding underneath it, along with the whole USA, she's speechless. But what's worse is Asher's request. A request she doesn't take lightly, and a request he can't imagine coming back to hit him.

There you have it. The revolutionary Take Over synopsis! Lol

message 15: by Kristel (new)

Kristel | 13 comments Hi I’m currently working in a story which involves time travel but more in a (remember that movie the kid with bruce willis or the other movie about time) kind of that way instead of something more doctor who (which is like bigger and more fantastical)
I just trying to deal with the whole little me/ old me and time travel nonsense
Cause its true it doesn’t make sense
Like for example my character has this almost like a disease in which this afternoon she can talk to her future grandma self and tomorrow she’ll be reading bed time stories to her little me.
So she needs to balanced having fun because she’s a time traveler that’s super cool but also not messing things up

message 16: by Kristel (new)

Kristel | 13 comments I know! And i REALLy enjoy that movie, even though a couple of plot holes or unanswered questions with their dancing of time lines.
but that movie had help me put my mind to work on my story
Any other time travel movies or books, besides Back to the future that you guys want to recommend I’ll appreciated

Wow Kristel that sounds super cool!
The hardest scene I’ve had to write...

message 18: by lyssa ☆ (new)

lyssa ☆ (a1yssa3) ok, so for the people who have written like 20+ chapters, how do you get past the middle part and towards the more interesting part?? I always get stuck on that! I have at least 3 stories which i got stuck.

message 19: by Joey, The Coffee Lover (new)

Joey | 1584 comments Mod
That happens to me too Alyssa!
(Somehow I have managed to make it a lot farther in my current one)

message 20: by lyssa ☆ (new)

lyssa ☆ (a1yssa3) I know!! I try to plan them out. Like chapter 5-meeting up etc. but still i get stuck.

How far did you get Joey?

message 21: by Joey, The Coffee Lover (new)

Joey | 1584 comments Mod
I’m currently at 33,000 words and I am seriously determined to finish it.
How about you?

message 22: by lyssa ☆ (new)

lyssa ☆ (a1yssa3) WOW, um, i dont know. I normally write my stories first before i actually type them.

I've gotten to about twenty-one chapters, so I can answer! Lol
The complete and full and honest truth is... I have no idea. I really don't know. This is the farthest I've ever gotten in a book, and I'm really happy with how it's going. I totally understand the getting stuck thing, because I did that about a month ago. I think the most helpful advice I can give is: if you get to a part where you don't know what's coming next, or it's kind of a boring section, just write very brief. Don't give a whole bunch of detail. Just keep writing what you know, and later when you're writing the second or third draft, then you can fill in the blanks. You'll get there!

I have maybe 20 songs. But I don’t have the equipment I need to finish them. 😕

message 33: by Harper Nicole (new)

Harper Nicole (harpernicole) I'm not sure. I'd say around twenty. But, I only like about three of them. lol Some of them were written a long time ago. Lol

message 34: by Anna (new)

Anna I've never really written music. Maybe I tried several years ago, but I like story writing more, personally. Lyric writing is hard!

It is kind of difficult. But, sometimes, I'll get an idea and roll with it. Lol

Sometimes i randomly start singing things that I make up, but I never use it for writing. I’ve never really had a point where I had to use a made up song for a book. *shrug*

Shae West (karsynshae) | 747 comments Mod
I use voice memos a lot. I have around 20 songs finished and 50 unfinished recordings😂 It’s a mess!

@Joey
same, but I do try to record whatever gibberish comes from my mouth.

message 38: by Harper Nicole (new)

Harper Nicole (harpernicole) I've never used anything like that for my books, either. It's just fun.

message 39: by Harper Nicole (new)

Harper Nicole (harpernicole) Uh, not so much. I kind of like being realistic.

message 41: by Harper Nicole (new)

Harper Nicole (harpernicole) I'm kind of writing two books, but I'm focusing on one right now, and I'm going to finish it before I continue on the other one.

message 42: by Anna (new)

Anna No, but I try to write often enough. I think I've been doing less and less writing as the years go on-not including role-playing.

Yes! I kind of have to write everyday. It helps me mentally.

message 44: by Maria (new)

Maria (purplebluewallflower) Heyy! Okay, I know it's totally random, but I just wanted to talk about it. I have made some attempts to write, because it's a childhood dream of mine. I have written down some ideas for characters, plots, etc. My problem is that, while at first all seems fine, after I reread them the next day, everything seems really dull and lame. As a result, my self-esteem levels drop and I lose motivation, as everything I write seems bad to me. I don't know what I should do. Do you have any advice?

message 45: by Shae, The Sherlockian (new)

Shae West (karsynshae) | 747 comments Mod
I think that happens to everyone, Maria. I know it happens to me every time I write. What I’ve done to help me, is to have one of my friends become an Alpha reader. She reads everything and then tells me what needs to be changed or if it’s good. Make sure it’s an honest friend and someone that reads a lot. Also I recommend Role Playing. It’s a lot of fun and a good way to figure out your writing style and how to develop characters. Don’t knock yourself down if your story doesn’t turn out the way you thought it would. Writing takes a lot of practice and learning new ways to say something. It will only get better and easier!

message 46: by Maria (new)

Maria (purplebluewallflower) Thank you so much for the advice! It really helps me! And thank you for being so kind, I really appreciate it!

Hi! No, everyone goes thorough that, I think, for sure. Your not alone in this! Since you seem to be going the planning route, where you plan your book first, I think you should go to just writing and not planning. Like, just start writing. Tell the story to yourself. This will cancel out a lot of the thinking what you've written's boring problem. If you just write, you're not rereading what you've already done. At least not until editing or something. And by then your story will have developed, and it won't be as big of an issue. But, this is totally based on me, so I know it doesn't work for everyone, but it was an idea. I hope you start enjoying your writing more, and get more confident in it!

message 49: by Maria (new)

Maria (purplebluewallflower) Thank you so much! It really helps to talk with people that are so supportive!

message 50: by Joey, The Coffee Lover (new)

Joey | 1584 comments Mod
Oh my gosh Maria I literally deal with that all the time. My main struggle as a writer is just not looking back, continuing no matter how bad o think my writing is. My goal is to get a first draft down on paper and then edit after that. After all, no matter how bad the first draft is, it’s better then nothing
