Oprah's Book Club (Official) discussion

This pen pal-style book group involves you joining a 12- month reading challenge that will require you to select a book (physical book - not electronic or audio) and as you read it, journal in a separate notebook your thoughts and questions. Then, at the end of the month you’ll send both the book and journal to the next member of your group. Since the other 11 members are doing the same, you’ll receive a book and a notebook every month that you’ll read and add your journaling to and then mail on to the next member too. After 12 months, you’ll receive your original book and notebook back.

We start reading and journaling at the beginning of every month and mail our first book/journal by the end of the month. All genres welcome!

Sonya - the international group only involves sending a letter or postcard. We want the element of snail mail, but understand the postage may be a problem for some. We have U.S. members in the International groups - if you are interested.

Eliza - we have U.S. groups (12 members each) and International groups (6 members each). All writing is in English. I"m sending you details about both.

What a great idea!! I'm definitely interested. To clarify do we buy a new book and notebook every month or do we all just buy one and then we add to each of the 12 notebooks? Just curious but absolutely interested. Thanks!!

All 12 people purchase his/her own book and journal. Read and journal thoughts. At end of the month, all mail their books/journals to the next person on the list. At the end of 12 months, you get your book and journal back - filled with treasures from you 11 new book pen pals.

U.S. Group: Welcome to your new mission if you choose to accept it. Then, at the end of the month you’ll need to send both the book and notebook to the next member of your group. Since the other 11 members are doing the same, you’ll receive a book and a notebook every month that you’ll read and add your journaling to and then mail on to the next member too. International Group: Welcome to your new mission if you choose to accept it. This special international mission involves you joining a 6-month reading challenge that will require you to select a book and as you read it, journal your thoughts on stationary-paper. Each member your assigned group will ONLY mail the letter(s) to the next person on the list. Mailing an envelope across international borders will cost about the same as mailing a book and a journal in the States. With this in mind, everyone in the International Group will have to find a way to read the book selection each month: borrow, buy, ebook, audible, used book store, etc. Then every month, you forward your letter, plus all prior letters about that same book - to the next person in your specific group.

If this sounds like something you are interested in, reply with your name, your mailing address, your email address, and the book that you would like to use for this reading group.

We have another round of groups starting in June, if anyone is interested. We successfully created 12 groups (with 12 members each) in the U.S. and another 3 groups (with 6 members each) in our International group.
