The book is a collection of 12 poems and one short story, each one depicting certain concept. Like the poem “The Joy formula” depicts happiness whereas “Sweet lies vs bitter truth” depicts dry humour and the short story is based on the daily life of a “Maid”. The author has incorporated extremities of life. The poems are free verse and hence easy to read and understand. They are also highly relatable, picked up from the truths of life that we so often face yet remain ignorant of. The author mentions in the blurb that we could identify ourselves with her poems and she is right to the point, there were poems that made me rethink about society and life but there are also poems that showed me the mirror of my true self. The title is so apt to the words expressed in the book. My personal favourites are “Sweet lies vs bitter truth”, and “At last”.
The book also contains various illustrations and pictures. I couldn’t quite understand the need for them because I did not know how the poems relate to them. But maybe it was my own inability to see what the author wants to show me.
It’s a short read and can be completed in one sitting. However, it will leave a mark on your conscience and the words author has ingrained in your mind through her book with linger long after you close the book. I only wish the book was longer and the author had written more such beautiful poems because 12 are just not enough.
My rating 3.5/5
