The Shadowglass

Book Ending Discussion

I just finished the book and I would really like to talk about it with someone that has read it. This is my first time posting something like this so I am very sorry if it comes off like a spoiler. So you have been warned. The questions are based off of finishing the book.
Here are my questions:
On page 85 the Bard says, "a quick word passed between Khalad and Kalen, but the heartforger did not follow us into the Valerian." Did the author mean to say Kalen? I'm pretty sure he was with Tea and not with the group. I'm just confused with that passage.
Now the end question. Do you think the couple at the end were Tea and Kalen in disguise? I think so. I like to believe so. Probably because I am a sucker for happy endings.
What do you think? Any other thoughts on the story or characters?

About the passage you mentioned, i really didnt notice that...
About the ending... Oh, well. I'm hoping it was them indeed, otherwise I'm just really sad. I need them to have an happy ending. I'm just not satisfied with them dying.

I think so. They talk a lot about going away together, and having kids. And she is supposed to have a lot of power between the time she gets the Shadowglass and when magic is ended, so who is to say she didn't make a couple of changes. I like to think she gave the deavas a new life too.
I might write a fanfic on it. I need more closure. ='(

Hey - I have an ending question I hope you can help me with. This is killing me and making me lose sleep. How did mykaela die? I am not sure if I missed it but it seems she died sometime after Tea was ex-communicated and before she comes back. (With kids I read it in choppy sections so I could have missed a part). Thanks!
I just finished it today and I believe it might be them. They both deserve a happy ending.

I'd like to believe so! The words sounded a lot like something Tea had said before, what Tea and Kalen had wanted. They had wanted to go into disguise and live their life together. I think the Bard also realizes this because at the end it says he whipped around to see them, and a low cry emitted from his throat. Although, I don't know how this is possible when they died... Well, like Fox said, nothing is impossible when it comes to Tea.

I'm late on this but I actually feel the opposite. I usually like happy endings, but in this case I feel like if they end up being fine, it cheapens all the hard decisions she had to make to get there. I don't need a happy ending when a major theme of the book is the fact that right and wrong aren't black and white and making tough decisions requires accepting tough consequences and making sacrifices.
I really do think the couple at the end are Tea and Kalen. They were ready to leave everything behind and live out their lives separately from everyone for a long time by then. They fantasized about growing old and starting a family. Even though Tea was weakened by the time they get to the ring of worship, she had grown so powerful that she still couldn’t believe at times all she could accomplish if she only tried. It’s a bittersweet ending either way.
And to answer someone below from a year ago, Mykaela died when all the elders that had been blighted finally turned and attacked everyone. This is after Tea killed the faceless that was posing as the emperor.
I just finished rereading this, I wish it had a bigger following. It’s such an intricate story.

Spoiler question:
Does it actually tell you how kalen is brought back? Or did I miss something. It seemed there wasn’t an answer after the beach. I really liked this series and would love a 4th book.
