Leah Reise | 372 comments Do authors ever submit sequels to a traditional publisher? For example, I self-published my first book and am three quarters through writing book 2. It’s not exactly a stand alone, but backdrops things from book 1. Do authors ever submit sequels like mine to a publisher even though book 1 is self-published?

Hey Leah

Absolutely. And who's to say they won't pick up book one as well.

I will say, I've heard that it takes 3-5 books before most people are picked up by a publishing company, so don't get discouraged. Keep up the indie publishing, but don't stop trying!

Best of luck

Peter Martuneac | 97 comments That's my plan too. I'm hoping to use reviews/sales of my first book to push the sequel onto a publisher. It might not make a big difference, but if a publisher was on the fence, some decent numbers might be the last budge needed!

Leah Reise | 372 comments Thanks, everyone! I’m glad it’s a common thing then!

Bill Greenwood | 38 comments For those of you who have succeeded in getting picked up by a publisher, do you have any insights? Did it require getting an agent first? How did you connect with your publisher?
