Does the Kurt Vonnegut Jr. Award for Literature count for this task?

Here's a couple of links referencing the award:

http://www.imcpl.org/about/news/2011/...

Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library’s Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. Award for Literature was established in 2007 for Indianapolis' favorite son author whose innovative writing style broke new ground in fiction and influenced both the literary world and mainstream America.

Yes, that works. We'll try to remember this post, but it will help if you will link to it when you post. Happy reading!

Kätlin | 174 comments I found a mention of an "Arthur Conan Doyle Prize for New Fiction" - would this work for 10.7? It's only mentioned in a handful of places and I'm not sure it's the sort of a thing you meant for this category.

Also, in case this is accepted, lots of people have already read Conan Doyle of course, and lots of people still might read before the end of the challenge, as his books fit several categories (19th century, Victorian mysteries etc), so what will happen to points already awarded?

Although I don't see that it was awarded in any year other than 2008, it does qualify for 10.7. I've made a note to add him to our list, so that all books previously posted (and new ones) will get the 5 combo points.

message 17: by Kätlin (new)

Kätlin | 174 comments Yeah, I didn't find anything about it being awarded any other year either. Thanks for the ruling!

Jama | 242 comments Hi, I am wondering if a literature fellowship counts as a literary award? Stanford has the Wallace Stegner fellowhip granted to people working in literature.

message 19: by Elizabeth (Alaska) (last edited Nov 08, 2014 07:41AM) (new)

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14232 comments Wallace Stegner qualifies (and is on the pre-approved list) because of this award.

(Edited, because I linked the wrong award.)

Jama | 242 comments Oh, sorry to bother you! I forgot to check the list :-(

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14232 comments No problem. I remembered he was on the list because he's one I was hoping to read.

Tony (glossus) Another one that I can't tell: The Thomas Paine Award. Is an award for a body of journalism a little too broad to be classed as a literary award?

I can't seem to find anything beyond the honor of being so named, no true award attached. So, unfortunately, we'll say no to this one. Thanks for bringing it to my attention, though!
