B.L. Teschner Hello. Can anyone recommend a good thriller that takes place with a storm going on outside? I know it sounds funny but I love stormy weather and love finding books that incorporate it into the story. Thanks!

Dipanjan | 44 comments @ B.L - I am reading 61 Hours by Lee Child. It is set in a storm. That too in the icy winters of South Dakota. And ... of course .... it has Jack Reacher. Thats a triple whammy for you.

Rhian (rhianlovesbooksx1f4d6) | 352 comments this is gonna be my new favourite thread I also love books set in a storm or winter weather, one that springs to mind is burial ground by john rickards, I'm currently reading left to die by lisa jackson and it sounds like your kind of book, I'll get back to you on how it ends as I'll be finishing it today

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 9985 comments When you mentioned a storm setting for a thriller, Through the Evil Days (Rev. Clare Fergusson & Russ Van Alstyne Mysteries, #8) by Julia Spencer-Fleming Through the Evil Days by Julia Spencer-Fleming popped into my mind. This mystery/thriller is set in the midst of a raging ice storm. The problem is - it's book 8 in the series. However, I think some of the previous books in the series may also have bad weather, if you're interested.

If you haven't read Shutter Island, that's a good one for a novel set in a storm. Also, if you read Johan Theorin's novels (from Sweden), a couple of them are set in storms, but you'd have to check which ones since I can't really remember.

Rhian (rhianlovesbooksx1f4d6) | 352 comments sorry I must correct myself there seems to be a further 5 books after this one but its the 1st in the series

Bill B.L. - I agree with Dipanjan about 61 Hours by Lee Child. Excellent thriller set in a big storm. You might also like to try an oldie but a goodie, Night Without End by Alistair MacLean by Alistair MacLean, a thriller set in Greenland, fast - paced, exciting and cold, cold, cold!

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) This topic is semi-related to the 'arctic' thread from last year.

Then as now, I will recommend Wind Chill Factor by Thomas Gifford
'The Wind Chill Factor'
Which travels from stormy Minnesota to the English Channel to Norway to Germany; with storms throughout.

Joseph Conrad is famous for his sea-writing of course; and from his bibliography I've never found any better description of a storm-at-sea than this one:
Typhoon by Joseph Conrad
Typhoon

Barbara Fister (barbarafister) | 15 comments 1222 by Anne Holt is set in a mountain pass in Noway where passengers on a derailed train take shelter in a hotel as a blizzard rages ... And one of them is a murderer. Very cold!

Also can recommend M J McGrath's White Heat, set way up in Ellesmere Island with a detour to Greenland. Brrr.

Marianne Williams | 206 comments The Black Countryby Alex Grecian is a murder/mystery that is set around a town that is collapsing due to coal mining. A big storm sets thing up for the grand finale.

Jan C (woeisme) | 39208 comments Listened to one that took place in a snowstorm recently. White Fire by Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child. It was my introduction to Preston & Child. I have now gone back to the beginning of the series.
