Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments So, I am on hols now. Travelled with the niblings today.

Nephew listened to and finished a book (god, putting him onto audiobooks was the best thing EVER!)
Auntie Cat's reading? Nil. I've one chapter (30mins) of audio left, but no chance. I'd hoped that my niece would be into the audio... Nope. Instead I spent a large part of the flight pretending my necklace was a snake and was pooing on me.

Which is a long way of saying, I'm cool with Dog,but don't expect a lot of books out of me!

Dusk or Dark or Dawn or Day by Seanan McGuire - brown?

message 52: by Paula (new)

Paula Reyes Wagner (paurw) | 784 comments yees I say it's brown

message 53: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Does anyone mind if I put claimed books onto the Eel stream (or Dog) without read dates, so we can see where we are?

message 54: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments Go for it, Jenny!

I wouldn't put Wolf in the Whale or These Things of Darkness in yet, as I've not started them

message 55: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments I've found a book with first word starting with H!

message 56: by Paula (new)

Paula Reyes Wagner (paurw) | 784 comments Great! I'm finishing a book today and I hope to finish another by sunday =)

message 57: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments :)

I'm having a lovely time on my hols with niblings, although I could do without having to "atend you are the mummy horse" all the time! (my niece has issues with saying pretend, which I am trying to rectify). Way too old to be scurrying around on my hands and knees!

message 58: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Whinny girl, whinny!

So glad you found a starts with H book.

message 59: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Did we figure out if we need to find more A books to start a new stream?

message 60: by Paula (new)

Paula Reyes Wagner (paurw) | 784 comments I don't know, but my guess is that we should complete the A tasks everytime =/

message 61: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments I just messaged the Uno Pixie to make sure. I think the answer will be yes, but we will see.

message 62: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments Finished the first word starts with H book.

Looks like the only gaps now are H A T in title and love at first sight.
The former is easy, but any suggestions for the latter?

message 63: by Paula (new)

Paula Reyes Wagner (paurw) | 784 comments I'm planning to read Como agua para Chocolate, Sleepy Hollow and Other Short Stories and The Annotated Alice: The Definitive Edition

So, we can start another stream, while I finish any of those, probably the first will be Como Agua Para Chocolate, it's very short and in spanish, I'm a faster reader in spanish since it's my native language =P

message 64: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments I can find a love at first sight romance this weekend. Shouldn't be too hard.
I have not received an answer about repeating prompts in a new stream yet.

message 65: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments I just updated all of the read books into the spreadsheet. Feel free to move things around if anyone wants to. I was tired of having our first thread unfinished, so I rearranged stuff to finish it.

On to the next...

message 66: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments Yay, Jenny!

I was just about to do just that, having lost yesterday to binge watching Good Omens :)

message 67: by Cat (last edited Jun 03, 2019 02:09AM) (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments we doing Dog next, right?

ETA: we are, seen those additions :)

message 68: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Good Omens was WORTHY!

(I liked it just a little)

message 69: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments I just turned on the news, and the Apricot Clown is being greeted by the Royal family. I didn't think anyone wanted him there. The news is showing the baby Trump balloon as well though, so that's funny.

Perhaps he is there to help out with Brexit. I'm sure he has some really good, valid ideas about that, that Parliament should really listen to. (Wow. once again, I wasn't just struck by lightning.)

I feel so bad for the people who have to be polite to him. I would be tempted to say rude things.

message 70: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments 'cos the Duke of Edinburgh has retired, Prince Charles is Liz's official co-host. Which means liberal-leaning, eco-warrior Chaz has to be polite to The Donald. Trump also not invited to stay at the Palace - "refurb" going on. This is the Palace with about a gazillion bedrooms, mind. but, refurb = no bedrooms available. #sadface

No, no one wants him here - big protests planned tomorrow, mobbing around where I work - it'll be peaceful but crowded.
And the Squeaker, Bercow, (also liberal, queer supporter) was upfront about the fact that no way was Trump coming to address the Houses at all in any way shape or form.

Last time he came there were articles about how the Queen was snubbing him via her brooches. It was hilarious if true. So I suspect we'll get some sneaky Brit-snubs in there yet :)

message 71: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments I try to not follow the day to day blathering of the jackass, but I thought I heard that he had insulted Princess Meghan, and then tried to say he hadn't. Idiot.

Have fun watching the protests. Let me know if there are really good insults please. It makes me smile.

message 72: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments How do you feel about a statue of him on a golden crapper?

I mean, that's more effort than I'd put in, but still fun! :)

message 73: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments That is pretty funny!
I hate that guy so much though, when he is shown on the news I have to look away. All I want to do is slap him. I'm so sorry that your country has to deal with having him there at all.

The Queen gave a lovely speech. Too bad most of the history bits went right over his head.

message 74: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments We are enjoying that the Queen gave him a book!

no idea what book, but presumably one with lots of pictures and few words, or it'll be wasted!

message 75: by Donna (new)

Donna (dkflynn33) | 520 comments can he even read?

message 76: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments Donna wrote: "can he even read?"

surely he is the bestest reader ever, in the history of reading. can't find a better reader!

message 77: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Do you think he knows what the definition of hyperbole is?

message 78: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments I have a t-shirt that reads "Hyperbole is the best thing ever!"

I swear, sometimes people read it and don't get it.

(I also have one that reads "If you say the word GULLIBLE really slowly, it sounds like ORANGES.")

((Sure, I am a bit of an ass, but so what?))

message 79: by UNO Pixie, Our UNO Helper (new)

UNO Pixie | 1839 comments 5.5 days to go!
Countdown to the end of the challenge is here

Current points (see spreadsheet)

Team Points
A Team Has No Name 1,070
Miss Murder 870
Defective Detectives 600
Trouble 440
Wild Card 4 370

message 80: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments I forgot how short this challenge is! Let's try to finish a second stream just to do it. I don't think we will beat the lead team this time around.

message 81: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments finished The Wolf in the Whale by Jordanna Max Brodsky

Don't know if we should use it for A spell out or black writing on cover?

Thoughts?

message 82: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments and I've no idea what to read next....

message 83: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Morning. I wish I had another recommendation that is as good as "interstellar super explorer" to offer you, but alas, the books I have been reading of late are not to be put into the same category.

I picked up six books last night, and they all look wonderful, but when I got home I realized that none of the covers are brown. I think that may be a handicap in a different challenge.

Take a look at Triangulum. It grabbed my eye, and it looks wonderfully weird.

message 84: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments yeah, but does it fit any of our tasks?!

4 days left: I might audio a Sherlock Holmes, but not sure what kindle book to pick up...

message 85: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments Ok, I'm going to read a street scene: Dopesick Dealers, Doctors, and the Drug Company that Addicted America by Beth Macy

message 86: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments I just finished another Nancy Drew that we can use for the "read a book by a team's detective" thingy. I am also looking for a book to cover the enemies to lovers list.

And, I just checked my new pile of books, and the text of Lent starts with an H. Cool.

message 87: by Cat (new)

very cool! :)

I'll see what other audio I have then, rather than Sherlock Holmes

message 88: by Cat (last edited Jun 05, 2019 06:56AM) (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments oooh! a short one, with feral hippos in America! for an R spell out. or green writing

River of Teeth

message 89: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments FERAL HIPPOS!

message 90: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Mercenary Hippo Wranglers!

That is going to be an odd read.

message 91: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments Nebula nominee, so should be good enough :)

message 92: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Let me know. It looks like a good one to have in reserve for a challenge.

message 93: by Paula (new)

Paula Reyes Wagner (paurw) | 784 comments Is this a grey cover:
Ascensión - blanco (Ascensión, #1) by J.Y. Zafira F. ?

message 94: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments Paula wrote: "Is this a grey cover:

I reckon yes!

message 95: by Paula (new)

Paula Reyes Wagner (paurw) | 784 comments Ok, I'll start it tonight then, my other books won't work for any of the other remaining tasks

message 96: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments can't we reshuffle, rather than you abandoning mid book?

message 97: by Paula (new)

Paula Reyes Wagner (paurw) | 784 comments I'm always reading more than one book at the same time, so there's no problem haha

message 98: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments cool! so long as you don't mind! :)

message 99: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments We can totally use a different stream. if we need to. I don't care.

message 100: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments Feral hippos was pretty fun! No extremes of brilliance or silliness, but definitely a good one to fill in a quick task :)
